MoA Jamaican scotch bonnets....

so...as a few of you know that when i came on here.. one of my mission was to be able to acquire some pods and or seeds of JAMAICAN SCOTCH BONNETs.... others came along to help me with seeds (smokemaster, midwestchilihead, jamison and GreenTea) but i had a hard time growing them due to various reasons.it was my first grow..

so anyways.. along came a guy name Steve954 who introduced us to the MoA (ministry of agriculture) Jamaican scotch bonnets...

again i am truly humbled and glad i am able to grow this pepper

got a couple germing in jiffy pucks.. and a couple in my aerogarden....

please feel free to post comment.. especially those who was honored to get these seeds....

and without further a do!!.. let us start a progress chart on this MoA Scotch bonnet pepper!!

I'm getting a few "cup-and-saucer" pods, maybe 25% or so....

The heat in these newly-constructed raw RCW/native ground/Osmocote beds is way too high. It's a testament to the vigor of this variety that's they're even alive, much less setting blossoms and fruit:

Thanks Chris....If you haven't already got seeds coming from elsewhere, I should have some in a month or so...

Great job Gary! The second wave of pods should give you about 50% cup-and saucer.

Walter, Sean, Yao, got your packages will send out Fri.

Matt, Denniz, Roper, I will also send out Fri. I added a little surprise for everyone.

Gen 2 MoA(seed from grade A+ pod) proud to be American

'bout to taste my first MoA Scotch Bonnet...(Yay Steve!):
  • How did you like it?
  • Interesting shape, none of my non-bonnets were elongated like that, love the MoA color!

Interesting, I wonder why we all get different percentages … I had 70% bonnet and the other 30% nons. One of my 3 plants is now loading up for another yield and it looks the reverse from what I can tell or a 50/50 mix but still no elongated pods. More heat now, better water (rain) & mas humidity are the only differences I note but that shouldn't make a bonnet difference. I have noted that the flower skirt on my "A" shaped pods helped develop the lower half ... but who know for sure ...

Pretty dam hot between now thru August in JA as well and the soil at sea level is boiling, even the breeze blows hot air unless your at the beach. This is the time of year to spend mas time in the Blue Mountains ^_^ ...

Steve I got the seeds! Thanks man!

Hey Al I also got the seeds from Steve. I'm gona send some to a couple of friends in Argentina close to Rosario. I'm sending to one guy and have him send or meet the other guy. These guys are sowing in September and I'm about to get ready to send some and if you want I can have them send you some.

For trust issues I'm gona do separate sealed envelopes in one so no one would dig in on the other envelopes and jack the seeds. Lmk.

I can ship anyday now. I just need to talk to these guys.

, Walter

Steve, your MoAs are cover-shot beautiful! Congrats on a beautiful grow!

We the growers cannot thank you enough for all your perseverance and dedication in bringing this pepper to the THP community. It's truly a world-class, breed-defining cultivar...There is no reason to grow any other pepper with the name Scotch Bonnet.

I finally harvested some tiny cup-and-saucer pods yesterday...Bear in mind that these plants are growing in challenging conditions, and they are struggling to survive right now—It's amazing to me that they are able to produce fruit all. It's a remarkably robust and vigorous variety.

I've grown other Scotch Bonnets that looked like these, but none of them displayed anywhere near the flavor of these peppers. Biting into one I am struck by a complex, deep sweetness, like a European or Asian tree fruit such as apricot or lichee. The flesh is succulent and juicy, and the flavor is an unparalleled, intricate balance of spiciness and almost syrupy sweetness. I've never tasted a chinense with this much sugar in it...Words cannot do justice to the experience of this pepper!

That's an awesome description. I can hardly wait for mine to produce some pods. Mine are still babies (the plants, that is), but I still hope to get some pods this fall.
