New York Holiday!

Me and the other half are off to New York for 10 days over Christmas. I was wondering if any of you had some must see places or areas to visit?

We're also music mad and are always looking out for any underground punk and hardcore gigs, world or Jazz too but not commercial!

It's a long way to go and we want to make the most of it while we are there!

Would love any tips :)

PS Also where are good places to buy chilli or veg seeds!

THP is our resident NY expert. On my list of restaurants I would hit are, Nathan's on Coney Island, Peter Luger Steakhouse, Shakeshack, and Katz's Deli. Oh wait....Shakeshack won't be open. I'd also hit the Chinese joints off Canal St. and definitely any Italian joint THP recommends.

Salute',TB.

Get a 48 hours ticket of Grey Line! You can hop on hop off the bus flatrate wherever you want.

You already booked a hotel? If not I can recommend Hotel Casablanca. Just a few steps away from Times Square, very clean and friendly and not too expensive.

Great! Thanks!

The hotel looks wonderful Armadillo, but a little out of out price range but maybe for a treat on Christmas eve!

Make sure to swing by the Iridium jazz club. Mondays nights used to be when Les Paul played there, but now its called guitar tribute mondays. Its a wonderful place to go. And just for some fun, go bar hopping on Bleeker street. It used to be full of punk/hardcore dive bars and the infamous CBGB's used to be there back in the 80s and 90s, but i havent been there in years so i'm not sure how much has changed. THP can definitely tell you where to go, though.

If you like cigars and steak, I have to recommend Smith & Wollenskys on 3rd Ave. It's a small chain with 7 or 8 locations(I've been to 4 of them) and one of my favorite restaurants. You can have dinner upstairs then after your meal go down to the cigar bar for a smoke and bottle of port, at least thats what I do. I first went with friends when we went down to NY for the Tool show in 2001 at the Hammerstein Ballroom right after Lateralus came out. It's moderately priced but you can easily spend over a grand like we did if you get into pricy wines. That was one of the most fun weekends I've ever had.

Yeah, isn't that a great place? If anyone goes to any one of them, make sure to try the truffle macaroni and cheese as a side. It's amazing how well the truffle flavor compliments it, I want some NOW. Maybe I'll have to drive down to the one in Miami in a few weeks when I get my license back.
