chinense OBEAH F1 - Reaper x MoA Scotch Bonnet

I just grew this out this season.  Plants were beautiful, and so were the pods - but not exactly what I was looking for.  They didn't go the right way for me.  First off, out of 3 plants, I got 3 pod shapes, and 2 different colors:

I picked the one in the foreground, because I thought that it was the right shape, albeit a little smaller than Steve's pods.  However, I was horrified when I opened it up.

This picture doesn't even begin to do justice.  There was literally oil dripping out of this pod.  The inside, instead of being roughly the same color as the outside, was almost an albino shade of orange.

As for the taste...  I only test peppers like this about an 1/8 at a time.  All I can say is, this thing is the stuff of nightmares.  Seriously, I had a chocolate Bhutlah that I sampled immediately after this one, and it felt like a relief, by comparison.  What I grew is WICKEDLY HOT, and easily the hottest thing I have ever tasted.  I cannot grow these seeds out again.  I think that instead of getting a mix of Reaper and Bonnet flavor - which would have been delightful - this pheno just compounded the heat of both strains, and drowned out all of the flavor.

Haven't heard from Steve lately.  Any positive progress on stabilizing this pheno?
Unfortunately I didn't hear from him either .... as you can see in earlier posts my two plants produced the Reaper Pheno although the last flowers on the end of the lateral branches gave me tiny bonnet shaped pods but were too small and barren

I have sent seed from my best pod to KD for him to hopefully get a better shape. I have sown more seed F3 just have to wait and then wish for a good British Summer

I wish you all the best I only received 3 F2 seeds and sowed them all to get two plants.... One reason I won't pass on last season's seed is stabilisation ... if it all goes wrong my end maybe you would be kind enough to save me a few seeds.

F2 seeds are the hardest to get a result out of.  I would be willing to wager that most growers spend the greatest amount of energy trying to get past F2.

If you want seeds, I have some.  But I warn you...  what I grew is not nice.

My pleasure KD

So, I had one F2 Obeah left in a far corner, that was neglected and nearly forgotten.  So that means, I actually have 4 unique phenos of this attempted cross.

The latest one that I got looks almost like a perfect cross shape wise of a Bahamian Goat and Red Savina Habanero. It's bright red.  The flavor is absolutely marvelous.  But the heat isn't quite there.  And the shape is well...  Meh.

Making smoked sauce from a batch of them tomorrow.

Breed it with the all heat, no flavour one and see what happens.

No, wouldn't dream of that.  The flavor of this one is absolutely perfect.  I don't like the shape for the sake of stabilising the OBEAH, but I'll see where this one goes.

So this season I have concentrated on just two ... one I have kept in isolation in the Growtent and another that is in the polytunnel.. last season the pods were Reaper Pheno it was the final pods on the lateral branches that had the true SB shape however they were barren of seed ... let's hope this season produces some great pods

KD how are your's looking

So Denniz wanted me to let you guys know that his (plants) are still small. He is having trouble logging on to the site and asked me to post a quick update for you fellas.
Peace!!
Thanks Chewi please pass on my regards to him. I have a good sized plant in the polytunnel in an air pruning container... initial pods are nice in shape but fearful that they may produce the Reaper tail. Will post a picture when I move the plants into their final positions
