OCD 2017!!!

Well it's 2017. Finally! Last year was a success, as far as the ground plants were concerned. Virgin, clay ground. My Chinese got smacked by hail twice! No room for error with those. Out of 12 plants I got ONE BBG. First and only. That variety is cursed. Tried for the past 3 years and some sort of calimity happens.

This year I decided to try 21+ different varieties of the BBG. I have 9 Reaper crosses. 21 and counting other varieties. I built a hoophouse and some COB led's. Planning on getting them outside in March sometime. That might be a delusion, beings I'm in Colorado. We shall see. There is only a few varieties that I've grown before. The rest are all new. I'm planning on isolating most of them.

Just started some Lemon Drops for Throwdown Growdown. I will wait a couple weeks before I start the others. Everything needs to be in order before I germinate. No turning back at that point. I want two plants from most varieties. Plants need to be woody by ground day. That's the only way I have a chance at success with late maturity varieties. If I have extras, I'll give away to my friends of THP.

My list is growing, but not much. Here is some of the varieties that made the cut.

Damn Chuck ! are those plants between the rows in containers yet ?  Your gonna have pods out the wazoo !
Thanks Frank!
I wish, lol. I've potted up a few. This next week, I'm potting up until I'm out of soil and ground.

My back, shoulder and knees, have not been good lately. Took advantage of a much needed break. I'll try and pot up 10 plants a night after work this week. I believe, I have 130 plants left.
Need more ground damn it!

130  !   That would be a lot of leftovers .  Sry to hear about the  aches . I know where your coming from with that .   Get the most you favor first , then by chance you don't get to the rest , you'll have your favorites planted .

Hey Chuck!

Have I told you yet that you're crazy? ;) :shh:  That there is a ton of plants! I say go for it! Do what you love to do :P

Two things I do for aches and pains, versus popping pills. One is Barleens fish oil (amazon) 1 tbl spoon a night. The other is 1/2 a sliced lemon in my stainless steel water cup. It really helps with the rheumatoid arthritis. It's cheap and worth a try. Got to give it 30 days to start working.

Thanks Scott!
I knew, I lost a screw or two when I was starting seeds. I only wanted 1 variety of each. I didn't expect such a high germ rate. I couldn't bring myself to throwing them all out. Plus I didn't expect for all of them to survive my brutal torture system called Winter.

I've used Ricks Arnica suggestion. The stuff is called the Rub. It works great, but I think I just need some old fashion relaxation. This stuff is what got me through the first few weeks and beyond when I was working on the pipeline. http://natrabio.com/pain/the-arnica-rub-6.html

Chuck,I went back and looked at the sides of your greenhouse. As small as your running, you could use light galvanized poles on each side, get some clips to attach your plastic and then be able to roll up the greenhouse.Shadecloth will go over the roll-up.Plants look good buddy

Thanks Randy.

I seen people doing that. I tried to drive some in the ground and it was impossible. I could still do that without the poles. I would have to just unscrew the strip pieces at the base. Just don't want to have to roll it up and down everyday. I'll get some good size intake vents at the one end. I think that will help out and a can put a door on.

I wired the circulation fan inline with the exhaust. So now it comes in when the exhaust is on. Will save some energy, since I don't have to turn it on before work when it's in the 40's. The fan is plenty enough circulation on the lowest setting. I'm going to try the second setting today and see how it goes.

I also mixed some soil and prepped some pots. I will start potting up this week after work. Then more dripline for them. I'm thinking of growing some in this kids pool. They would be bottom watered. Don't know. I like it when they are uniform and inline.

Love those pots Chuck. If your watering the plants cycle in the baby pool watch for critters who will be liking the available moisture
Thanks Randy.

I didn't think about that. If I do that, I will put some big wire around it. I think some will end up in the hoop house.

Damn it! J should have built a bigger house. LOL! Its never enough, Is it?

Thank you for the good vibes, Sandy. You are good friend.

Those pots are cool. I use to work in construction. I would get free containers from landscapers. All of my containers are recycled. Even the flats and the square pots the plants are in now. I'll reuse those same pots next year. Just not going to grow that many. LOL!

I hope your plants are doing well.

Thanks again.

You have a real pro grow going on, Charles!  That
greenhouse is going to pay dividends far into the future.

What size are your hexagonal pots?  Very interesting,
sort of a F1 "square x round"  pot
Thank you Paul. You rock!

The F1 pots are 1 1/2 gallons, I think. I've grown plants to maturity in them before. Years ago. Not really bowing what I was doing. I even neglected them. Did well.

I believe, I can get some decent plants from them. I mixed a half a cup off my organic mix (Espoma) in each container. I'll water with compost tea every two-three weeks. I've got some liquid nutrients that will take over after they are root bound. Going to be a experiment of sorts. I guess, I'll be doing my own little throw down. Biggest plants, most weight in pods, in the smallest container. LOL!

I love container gardening.

love the regular updates, this Glog rocks  :metal:

Thanks GIP! Your to kind. I try to update as much as possible. I go back to previous years and see what worked and what didn't. Plus, I like the input and suggestions you guys and gals bring. Knowledge is a great thing to share.

Glad someone else makes their own mix. I've never used the pro mix. Do you like it? I usually throw a handful of Myco when mixing. I've run out though.

i do like the pro-mix, but  there are different ones, this one is  a good mix, but is almost inert. Guess it would be good as is with fertigation. I mix, composted manure, mushroom compost, more perlite(i like a light mix) and worm castings. I then mix in a little myco and some Garden-Tone at planting and give em a couple light feedings after that  a couple months later.
I think I tend to under fertilize, and could probably get much bigger yields if i fed them more, but this seems to work well enough for me, and if it isn't broke why fix it ;)

from seedling to square pot stage (looks like the same style you use) i use Fox Farm Ocean Forest, worm castings, and more perlite (again, i like a light mix)

Myco at each transplant
i get mine from kelp4less

is all this necessary, probably not. but we love to baby our seedlings don't we :D

your going to have a great crop this year  :onfire:

I love Gardentone. Can't go wrong with that stuff. I like a light mix as well. The roots like it better. Have to water more, but well worth it.

Well heck, I can't keep up the last few weeks.

Of course everything looks great! And I'm glad you're dialing in the fans to control the heat.

So I have a bunch of Tomatotone, Gardentone, I think I bought all the "tones" when Wally World cut the price down to like $4 per 8lb bag. ;)  I haven't used that much of it, too busy trying to keep up. Been using the Hasta Gro

How do you use it rate wise per plant? And how often. I've never used granular ferts in the garden, well not in many, many years...
