OCD Chilehead 2014 Glog

Very nice!

I love the jam! We have never made any but the wife bought a book, and we're going to as time allows.

Any Mexican food is a plus in my book, those look tasty!

I agree put the boy to work. My oldest G-Kid is older than your son and we had her here in the house the first 5 years. Kids just want to be included and are often willing to help.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks Scott. Can't get enough of Mexican. I have been trading pods, powders, and salsa to people for recipes. I'm glad to give it away for free. But when they offer cash. I take them up on some recipes. Going to take some oriental classes in Grand Junction from a lady that owns a kick ass store called Carols Oriental and Gifts. The store has been around forever and has nothing but import goods. Reminds me of San Diego. Maybe in the future we will see oriental picks. LOL. I know Jedisushi will be all over that.

Two things we really don't cook much of here. Mexican and seafood, we do some but very little. The reason? Once we cook it, and get it down, we can't enjoy it in a restaurant.

BBQ, we have down, and Italian food, steaks too. I'd put ours in a contest any time. I'm half Italian, Dad was 100%, so that was on the plate quite a bit. LB (the wife) makes my grandfathers sauce recipe, with meatballs. Once you eat it, store bought sauce is just crap. I think in the last 30 years I've had just one taste of store bought sauce; and that was at a luncheon the workplace offered.

Around here Mexican eateries are everywhere; we have one that's our fave, a hole in the wall place that has really good food. Their country sausage with gravy and bean tacos are to die for, as well as the...just anything ;)

I know the feeling Scott. I have one Mexican place I go to. Hole in the wall as well. Nothing comes from a can. I dont buy canned sauce either. Worked in the yard today. Had to move some things out of the way so I could get the camper out. Pulled the VW out. I think Im going to start driving it.

Rose bush is growing like crazy since I cut it back. I filled my 6 foot bed of dead limbs and old growth. 100s of buds. Thousands of aphids.
20140510_182550.JPG

Me and my son went to the hardware store to find something for the aphids and passed up the insecticide for these.

Raised bed s getting full. Added some more mix as well as plants. Jalapeno at the ends Pablono's in the middle.

Cactus bloom

Tepin is really growing since repot
20140510_182637.JPG

No real updates on the rest of the garden other than leaf growth as well as stem. Not really any height yet. As soon as I go out side the blossoms will drop and they'll take off. I suppose they are spending most of there energy into root growth since potting up.

You can probably guess what was for dinner.

I think that's it for now. I hope everyone is enjoying there weekend. Thanks

Awesome Glog! Hey are those Sunleaves grow bags you are using? How do you like them? I'm thinking of trying them this year when I pot up. I see a lot of people here use cloth grocery bags that you can get at the Dollar Store. I would use those, but my concern is that they will get too warm from the sunlight (they are black and hence absorb sunlight). So I was thinking of using the grow bags since they are white. Would love to hear what you think of them.

Thanks BurninBob. I really like the white bags. They are taller and strong. Thicker material. I wanted to use those for all my depots. The store sold out and could not wait. I had to use what I could find. Next year I will order online ahead of time.I am defiantly learning as I go. Already know what I'm going to do different for 2015 grow. I like the fact that there fairly inexpensive. This is my first time using them. Thanks for stopping by.

Awesome, I think I will give them a try if my local store has them in stock. What size are you using, 5 gallon?

Those are 1 gallons. I bought five 7 gallon fabric pots to try this year. I am experimenting with different growing methods this year. Trying to find out what works best for my season.
i need the 10 gallon fabric pots for some of mine.  Iv'e never tried them out before.  I grow in pots out here in case a plant flowers late i can move it inside to finish when we get our first freeze!

Are you still getting frost up on the west slope Chuck? We're pullin' for ya to get those babies in the ground ASAP. Plants are looking great, and the foodies too! You're gonna love Asian food... :drooling:

Plants are looking real nice and so is the food.

I had a bunch of Chinense in 7-10 gallon nursery pots last year. All were root bound by Sept- Oct, which was just about the end of the season so no big deal but they might have produced more with larger pots. Fabric pots will prevent them from being root bound, but the big plants could still benefit from larger containers. I'm doing in ground this year, but I do have one plant in a 15 gallon just to test.

I'm container growing for the same reasons. The Annuum's will do,well,in the ground. The Chinese are late bloomers don't want green pods. I am trying some in the ground and see how the do in this short season of ours. 10gal something to think about.

Thanks Jeff. I might pickup some 10s and give theme a try. Don't know if there's a huge difference between 7s to 10s? It's amazing what a difference planting out a few weeks earlier makes. I wish I could harden off end of April or even Beginning of May. Good luck Jeff on the grow.

Yeah what up with that. Need the rain but 20s?? That's insane. I met a couple that grows tomatoes and strawberries and they lost a bunch. Thought Spring was coming early a few weeks ago. It was in the 70s and even 80 and then frost. They had to order 300 more plants. They do a produce stand and told me I could sell what ever products I wanted at there stand. Very nice people. They said they had a bunch of indoor grow equipment if I was interested. I guess I'm going to have to cover my raised bed plants up and keep my fingers crossed. CRAZY

Thanks Spicegeist. The VW is a 62. It was my little brothers. He passed away in 07. R.I.P Adam. Hasn't been driven since as a daily driver. I try to fire it up once a month. Going to tune it up and put insurance on it and drive it daily. It's ashame for it to just sit. I was surprised to see some lady bugs still out there this morning. The wind was crazy last night as well as the rain. Hope everything is going well with your grow.

In the 20's again?

That's insane. Some jugs filled with water next to the plants in the raised bed should help hold the heat in there. What are you going to cover it with?

That is a clean VW! I bet a convertible like that is a rare find nowadays. My Dad had a few VW's back in the day, they just run forever.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks Scott. The bed is only 8 foot long. I'm thinking plastic and maybe a tiny heater hooked up to a timer at the coldest part of the night. Wish I had a concrete blanket. Next week good weather.

Glad to hear that, we have some cooler weather on the way. The highs are dropping out of the 90's and into the low to mid 70's for 2 days. I guess that means lots of wind!
