I am greatly for a German Oktoberfest Throwdownbecause I tink this is the only one where I have agood chance of winning
And I haven´t made sausages and bread myself for a long time, so it should be fun.
And about the casings there is bigger variety here in Germany than one would think, like caul fat, so it would be even easier to make sausages without a sausage machine.
Oh and I would include another side dish(maybe some type of cabbage)

Ha! Exactly. I was thinking of that stuff but could not think of the name. Is there another name? Anyhoo yeah you can use that stuff, or bacon, etc.

It pays to be on a first name basis with the local (real) butcher shop, or at least the folks in the meat shop at the grocery store where they actually process the carcasses on site.

Our local/small town grocery store processes all their meat onsite. I have bought casings from them before. And they'll even sell me 5 oz of chicken if that's what I need. ;) You won't get THAT at WalMart! All their meats are processed "off-site".

FYI, and maybe a little off-topic, but still relevant.......next time you pick up a package of meat at WalMart, check out how much "Brine", "Sodium solution", "broth" etc has been added to your package of beef, chicken, pork or whatever. About 5 years ago, I went through all the packages of beef that I could find at WallyWorld and did not find one package that did not contain added water/broth. Some were up to 15%. Even steaks and roasts. Look at the labels and do the math. If that roast is .20 cheaper, but contains 10% injected broth.....how much are you actually paying for the beef?

'K, back on topic.....Ker'SCHNITZEL!

In German it is Schweinenetz( pig/porknet) or Fettnetz(grease/fatnet). The only other English word for it is greater omentum( omentum majus).

If you guys think outside the box you can do it w/o a machine; fatties on the Q with bacon as the casing.

Yeah, Sethsquatch did something like that and it looked GOOD! He wrapped the meat in peppers, then wrapped the whole thing with bacon. hmmmm......

FD4 you rock!

Naw...I've got an insane idea...far enough outside the box, that it will either be total WIN material...or dog food. And I won't know which until I do it.

wheebz likes craft beers and tater tots. That's like FD4 liking Busch Light and filet mignon.
