Oddest type of meat that you enjoy eating.

And Omri don't be suprised if even in Israel some veal is pork...

I'd pay money to see something like that uncovered. The amount of tossed dinnerware, silverware, glasses, etc. would be enough to fill a landfill! Wouldn't want to be the crooked butcher though.

I wouldn't want to see that, but I do work at a landfill so maybe they'll pay me more.
Now seriously, that poor man would be killed or at least locked up for a long, long time.

I know what "white steak" is, and it is somewhat available here.
That's the pork I was talking about.

Well what if one day the butcher or one of his helpers had too much to drink the night before and accidentally switched the "white steak" sign with the "veal" sign? Have you ever heard something like that happen?

I buy my meat at a kosher butcher, meaning there isn't any "white steak sign".

So a non-kosher butcher means "buyer beware" or they only sell non-kosher items?
They sell everything, but they're hard to find. people know what they're getting.

Back when I was a game warden in the everglades and big cypress swamp, a wildlife biologist and myself decided we would have an all game meal from what we killed (or obtained) that day...and had some fresh fish we caught the day before

deer
rattlesnake
possum (really greasy)
raccoon
rabbit
armadillo (taste like possum)
frog legs
turkey
alligator (didn't kill it, got it from a 'gator trapper)
soft shell turtle (absolutely delicious)
redfish
speckled trout (wheatfish)
mangrove snapper
black grouper
snook

we hunted half day (friend killed the deer, I killed the turkey) then cooked the other half...had about a dozen people over and all of the meats were deep fat fried (very healthy but I was 30 years younger then) to compare the taste and texture of the different foods...

all in all, it was a real piggesh day...we had a blast and full belly after it was over...the best tasting of it all was the rattlesnake...

I have still yet to try rattlesnake. I've heard from several people that it's good, but yet.......haven't eaten it yet. If I ever see it on the menu it's a for sure order!

the thing is we most of us anyhow live in 1st world countries so we have been spoilt in a culinary sense. I'm getting more opened minded with food as I get older, and with the state of food resources in the world its probably a good thing. I'm particuliarly interested in Calabrian food at the moment..

I actually see things the same way there. ALOT of it has to do with not having to raise, kill, our food ect. Nowadays, people just go to the supermarket and they get what they get. Not really knowing truly where it comes from and only eating what's sold. There are a TON of edible good choices of food out there. I'm like you and open minded on food. I'll try ANY food once at least. Yes, I'd even try dog if I was with Philip. However, I would have to know it wasn't someones pet in there house:shocked::lol: I'm kind of curious as to what cicadias and grasshoppers taste like as well. So many things that live to try and eat:lol:

........Man Omri I can't help it. I'm getting a craving for bacon now..Time to look in the fridge!!:P:twisted::lol:. I just had to. Actually my Great Grandfather on back were Jewish, but my Grandma changed religious preference later on. She still talked about some of the old customs though. As for me. Yeah, I like bacon though.;)

thanks for adding that about the armadillo Nat...I knew that but forgot to say it...

Folks, keep in mind that if you try armadillo, that it is a natural carrier of Leprosy. It's the only way that people get the disease now, and can only be dangerous if you under-cook the meat.

 Do you have to eat them to catch it or can you get it by only touching them?
