ortho insecticidal soap

ortho insecticidal soap

so i am new to growing this is the insecticide i am using right now
if anyone has one that they use that are better please let me know
also has anyone had any problems with this product

It's not a bad product. The Safer brand is better. Insecticidal soap will help with some problems and not with others. I think of soap as helping "control" a pest problem, rather than "eliminate" the problem. You can thin a herd of aphids and other bugs with the soap. If you really want to kill them, you'll have to up your game to a real insecticide. After two years of fooling around with soap and watching half my pods get ruined or eaten, this year I switched to Ortho Fruit and Vegetable, which is a real insecticide. I have not seen one single damaged pod this year; in fact I'm not sure if I've even seen a single bug in the garden.

I used the Ortho Fruit and Vegetable as well. I had an aphid infestation that was out of control. After a month of screwing with organic solutions (I did not try ladybugs) I decided to go nuclear. I was against using non organic stuff mostly because I did not want to be eating the insecticide. It was still early in the season however, so I decided to try the Ortho stuff figuring it would be long gone by the time any pods set. It worked great and I gave not seen any bugs since... other than horn worms. Now that I am starting to get some pods, if I see any aphids come back I will use organic stuff to control them.

Soap will work - you just have to be diligent and thorough with multiple applications. Rub the soap on your fingers and then rub both side of each and every leaf. Also rub the stem with soapy fingers. Normally after 3-4 applications in a 10 to 14 day period - the aphids are history.

I've found that AzaMax works good and it is for organic produce. It's made by General Hydroponics and you can get it at most hydro shops.
