overwintering Overwintered Scorpions

my overwintered scorpion plants seem to be doing OK...lot better than anything else...the shade cloth structure saved them from the double dose of hail I have had in the last 10 days...

and I have some guardian angels too...they hatched just a few days ago and are about 1/2" long now...hoping to get a resident population...

Thats what Im talking about! Air Pruning pots! Still kickin ass i See Jack!

Damn AJ those things have really put on some "bush" in the last month. Going to be interesting to see how big those guys are gonna get! Looking gooooood.....

If you find you have too many of those fine looking plants, you can always send one down to the Mexico border.

It will be well taken care of.

Beautiful plants sir.

Awesomeness, AJ!

I decided not so long ago to implement some kind of roofing protection when I build my raised beds next season, mainly for that exact reason!

first year I have used them...

the wife saw them and said..."did you buy them?...I said yup...then she asked about how much I paid for them...she said "ouch" but not that exact word...more like you dumb ass...I can make those for you...

so, if I like them, I can have a bunch more next year if I can get the material...

they are bushing up pretty nicely and flowers are showing everywhere but no pod set yet...I think its time for a shot of ProBloom and some Liquid Karma and maybe even some CalMag...they need a good feeding...

I don't expect them to get tall at all but I do expect they will be little shrubs by the end of November...

Are those two Texas Star Hibiscus plants!?

yes sir...my absolute favorite...

here's a pic from last year...

thanks, but you haven't seen the other 250...they got shredded by the hail...I mean, thats cool and all because they will be a bunch bushier, just not as tall as I am used to...

Scorps are invincible I reckon

thank god for 30% shade cloth...you really can't see it in the video, but he hail was bouncing 8-10 feet off the shade cloth...

Thats crazy !!!

are you grinning Nicole?...

best investment you can make and if you use PVC as a frame, it is even more fun...

I have made up my mind that PVC is an old mans "tinker toys"...

MWM...wouldn't say heavy damage...just the tops busted out of a bunch but like I said...that's cool...

Awesome! My wife sews mine for me too now! LOL The material is MUCH cheaper than buying them from companies.
That is one RED star! I have the white variety! I love them too. They throw people off, everyone always asks..."are those your marijuana plants?" LOL I always laugh and say "no, those are outback" lol

same here...I always tell them that the buds are very pretty...

hey, I got some seeds saved...you want some red?

Very sorry to see the damaging hail storm rip up your plants and not a darn thing you can do but film it. Hate that happened to you Ronnie but still early enough to get them back in good health and produce a large crop of peppers. The overwintered scorpions look ready to explode with pods set anytime and suppliment until the others kick in. Hope no more bad weather is in your cards, keep you chin up and hope all recovers before you know it. Good lookin' hoop houses.

thanks Cappy...hail is a fact of life here...I don't even get upset anymore...the plants are healthy, just beat up a bit...and like you say, they will definitely recover...just won't get any early pods off them...

I was cringing from the noise every time a big one hit AJ. It's so frustrating to watch your plants get chewed up by hail. Mine are showing signs of coming back, I'm sure yours will too. Best of luck to you AJ.

Beautiful Scorpion plants AJ. Put me down for at least one bottle of your scorpion purée. (Or whatever you end up making with all those pods) Oh and it appears I’m going to have to flagrantly copy your shade structure design as mine is not cutting it. LOL Have a great season!

the hoophouse is the easiest to put up...and shade cloth is inexpensive...

Oh wow, can't believe it dented up the patio roof like that. Hopefully the hail will keep away the next few months. The DFW area has been getting a lot of hail the last two months, certainly more in that short time frame than I ever remember total in the past ten years! I know this area has been averaging quarter sized hail and up to just a bit larger than golf ball. Shame the storm season has only really started haha.

Last year at this time I lost about 100 superhots from a terrible storm, but to sustain two is just inhumane and cruel!! How bad was the damage? How are your nerves holding up? I really feel your pain. The mesh barrier seems like a savior, great idea!! You're very resourceful and I really like your setup!!

Please keep us posted, hopefully smooth sailing the rest of the way.

May the pepper gods shine on you…use suffered enough already!!

Good luck, Jack
