P. Dreadie's 2010 pepper list

IMHO there is no greater reward than seeing a pepper seed grow to adulthood and produce pods. Those on the wall look absolutely fabulous P. Dreadie.

Your plants are looking really good, as are your "mini green houses" over the raised beds you made last year. I look forward to seeing the rest of your season.

Ok .... it's time I update things here as time allows , I have do some recording today.

This is my second year to grow peppers. I'm still learning so much it blows my mind. Some things have come from big FAILS. But I learned ... I won't do the same thing twice. Number one on the fail list was my frame for covering the plants. Never use canopy type fitting !! They're just locked together with eye screws. And I made my monster way to TALL. Might work if you don't have much wind. But we did here this year ... gusts a number of times at 60 mph. Add a heavy ran ..... and here's what I got !! So it didn't protect my plants and that's all I wanted .

The next thing I learned was my 1 gal pots , like you get from a nursery are to small. By that I mean as the plant gets taller the pot doesn't have enough weight to keep it from getting blown over in a high wind. So my plants got jacked all the time. They'd turn over and bust a leaf or two or scar up the leaves. I found some pots from a Hydro store that are called "1 gallon" but they're almost twice as big. These are heavy enough with soil to not get blown over.

I've been planting out stuff. First is a shot of a bed with Bonnets , St Bart's , and Congos. All of these plants where fugly from getting blown over and stuff. I know in the end they'll do fine ....

Next is a shot of some of my hotties ... Bhut Jolokia , Scorpion , and some Fatalii peppers all in 5 gal buckets. These will be moved else where. I could shade them here when needed. I'll plant some thing in the bed ...

Peace ....

The next two shots are from different areas that show plants in the bigger pots. They are ready to transplant. The photos aren't great but they really do look super . Just like I wanted all my plants to look !!

This last picture is my tomatoes. They're doing great.....

I've still got a lot of work to do. I'll take more photos and hopefully better ones as time grows along.

Peace,
P. Dreadie

P. I'd say you're going to have a great year if things continue like they have been with your peppers. Thanks for the advice on building a canopy too, never know when that may come in handy--like real soon for me.

The last picture looks like it's the outdoor garden area of Lowe's bro, you going into business for yourself?;)

Best of luck man.

DANG Patrick .... I didn't see all the logos or even think about them. So ...... I should line them all up with the logos lined up ..... Then take the picture ... then get in touch with Lowe's .... Thank for the business smarts ..... If I get more than a buck fifty .... half is yours

Peace,
P. Dreadie

Hmmm... I'm curious about how the "seasoning" peppers (Grenada Seasoning, St. Lucia Red, Trinidad Perfume, Trinidad Seasoning) turn out and how they compare...

I was limited to 30 plants when I ordered from CCN, so many had to get cut from the list, which turned out to be mostly the low-heat chinenses... I am getting one Aji Dulce 2 plant though, and have a Zavory.

UltraZelda64 ..... On the seasoning peppers the only ones I can speak about on the taste/aroma are the Trinidad Perfume and the Grenada Seasoning. I grew them last year. They both taste very much a like and have the aroma of a Scotch Bonnet with no heat. And I mean no heat. I like them and will always have those in my garden.

The Trinidad Seasoning and the St. Lucia Red are both new to me. My St. Lucia Red plants are way bigger already than my other seasoning peppers. I hope they have the same type of flavor. In the long run I'd like to have just two types , which every produces the most for me.

charlesNYC ....Matt Berry ... Patrick and Silver_Surfer .... Thanks guys

Peace,
P. Dreadie

Well .... I transplanted a bunch of plants yesterday. I was expecting a little stress . All the plants looked good last night and this morning. Today we will hit the 100 degree mark ...... They aren't feeling so good at noon ...... just can't fight nature . The soil looks dry in this picture but it's not .

Peace,
P. Dreadie

I wanted to post a few pictures of plants I'm not whining about .... LOL These didn't get beat up my the wind , they were plants I put out later in bigger 1 gal pots to harden off. Now they're in 5 gal buckets . Luckily all my Habaneros , Seasoning peppers ( they go into a raised bed ), and a few others should keep looking this good.

Peace,
P. Dreadie

A Burkina Yellow

A Golden Habanero ...... the light coming thru a tree makes it look not as nice ... but it's big green and lovely

Looking great. Have you tried the Burkina yellow? I just now realized that I forgot to grow these this year:( Its a great pepper, one of my personal favorites

Good luck with that triple digit heat P.D. Might think about some man made shade? I'm trying to come up with some inexpensive way to protect mine from the next severe weather outbreak but coming up empty.

If Lowes ends up sending you a gift certificate maybe I'll start using their buckets too.:P

Keep them good looking pepper plant pics posted!

Chief POTAWIE ..... This is my first time to grow the Burkina Yellow. So I know nada .... all I can say is I fell victim to a Neil video. I ordered seeds from him and none ....... none of any that I got from him sprouted. But CCN had a few plants at the last moment and I got some. I'm hoping they'll be another strain I'm in love with.

Patrick I'm hoping the triple digits are just a freaky thing and not something I should get use to. I understand coming up empty on fighting nature. I hope all my future pictures are full blown pepper porn .... stuff you/we dream of.

Later on if everything in the Lowes buckets are nice looking .. sexy as hell .... and full of Pods ... I'll take more pictures and send them to Lowes. As I said before ... I'll give you half ..... LOL

Peace,
P. Dreadie
