pass the parcel seed trading

I think everything will run very smoothly. Most people respect rules well in the Chilehead community. I nearly always include 5-6 extra varieties for trading partners to be nice when I can. I never forget the generosity of people like John F and many others extended when I first got involved in this hobby 3+ years ago.

I'm not raining on your parade, just addressing a legitimate issue. you only have to look at the 1st page to see right from the getgo there was some that thought this idea was dumb, but for some strange reason I'm the bad guy for bringing a issue up  by the way did I ever say this is dumb ? no I did not. but others did, I see a double standard.

I just find it ironic in the chile growing contest everyone was discussing rules for the contest & trying to break it all down even to a point of how to water  it seemed like people were all affraid of others cheating. the prize is not even tangible!

these are the same people you said you trust, but I find it funny you cant even trust them for a contest with a prize thats not even tangible

maybe cheezy got all defensive because he planned on doing this - take more than you put back or take all the good ones & leave some store bought packets of jalapenos or ?

its a legitimate issue that should of been addressed, I'm not raining on your parade so get a grip.

I don't think the contest rules were anything to do with cheating, just trying to make it fair for everyone
People in the online growing communities are so generous that I don't see a problem with passing the parcel. I imagine many people will actually contribute much more than they take. Some of us have more seeds than we know what to do with and gladly give them away.

so making a contest "fair" for everyone was really important when theres only bragging rights involved.
but when it comes to a seed exchange package
thats being sent around & people have to pay, what ? you say about $7 ? to reship the package. when it comes to this you dont think its that important to make it "fair" for those taking part of this seed exchange parcel. gotcha, I understand now ;)

all I'm saying is I would of thought there would be some stipulations in place, you know to make it "fair" for everyone.
something like take only same ammount you can contribute or close & not taking all the hard to find seeds,or the really good ones, etc....

you can get the thought out of your head of me trying to rain on your parade, which I am not. just saying why not make it "fair" to those taking part of this pass the seed package.

I think its a good idea, but will not be taking part this year since I have nothing to offer for seeds in exchange, but maybe after next season if this is still around (I'm gonna save seeds this season coming up & try again to grow from seeds)

I decided to take chilehunter's idea and keep all of the seeds. I have been plowing up my entire yard to have room for all of the plants I will have this spring.

Also I have been opening random packets to sprinkle on my pizza. Yummy! Thanks all!

Actually due to a newborn in the hospital, I have only just gotten the box to the post office this morning. (shipped priority) I am so sorry!

But I think that Dale will find that no more seeds will fit into the box without a lot of work.

I don't think you could have any contest without rules and I still don't see the conection to the parcel passing?

Chilehunter,
you are making yourself look silly now.

An even bigger box! that will be what $7.25 to mail?!
I have seen many seeds that will be in there selling for a heck of a lot more than that. Its just a fun thing its not like I dont/wont have any more seeds for myself especially after this season is over with, I am hoping to find some unusual seeds that are not so mind blowingly hot but enjoyable and great to look at as well.

your list was a little off cheesy we can't send the box out of the country

it should be from you to pod piper
then to pcola hot
then to lucky dog
then to pam
then to gardenkiller
then to cmpman1974

Doh! Right you are. :((lol)

I suggest that we loop the list if no one else is smart enough to sign up for this. At least 2 go arounds are in order since we will all contribute something different.

I was blown away Lucky, Mcmanmatty gets all of the credit. He provided an excellent base. I took 12 packets and contributed probably 11 or so.

Mcmanmatty had duplicates of many which was good because several people can get a sample of the same ones. I followed suit where I could and did not duplicate any of his. I did put them in a smaller box since the box they came in was taped up good and I opened it like a f**ing christmas present lol.

Shipping was $5. An incredible deal for 12 or so varieties that I could not buy locally, and even if I could, not for 5 times the price.

Many varieties that I had not even heard of. Too cool.

Being a new grower I felt that no one would expect me to put in more than I took, also my contributions were some that I have never seen mentioned here, and that I honestly felt added much value to the project.

That is why I jumped in so violently, I am just tired of him jacking threads and making them about something negative.

well 1st I thought it was a legitimate concern about passing the parcel around, but I guess it is not. I thought there'd be some rules to it.discussing maybe some rules about passing the parcel around is not hijacking a thread!

cheezwiz - how was I hijacking this thread when I was talking about the seed parcel & thought there'd be some rules to it, how is that hijacking this thread ? FYI look around at the threads all over this forum & you WILL find everyone else hijacking threads, even me sometimes. but in your eyes I guess I'm the only one that does this

another thing you think I'm so negative, well you can look through my posts I've made & you'll find out for yourself I dont post alot of negative things, but I'll admit yes I do sometimes but ohwell lifes a bitch aint it! that someone might disagree with you  I'll remember next time to always agree with the almighty cheezwiz

another thing cheezwiz are you not hijacking this thread right now by bringing up something way off subject to this thread ;) feral cats! & I stand by what I've said before in that thread, once that cat leaves your house its nothing more than a feral cat which is a invasive species to wildlife - wack'em & stack'em
you cat owners are the ones so out of touch with reality!

bravo cheezy  you just hijacked this thread by bringing up that subject.

Yes, I got it and it has been sent out. I think our number one priority is to make the labels legible I had a really hard time trying to figure out most of the packets so I only got 1 variety.

I was worried about that, and I thought I would print the variety name on my label maker, and include a printed sheet with variety descriptions. My handwriting is appalling!

Pam, that is a good idea to write a description about the varieties that you put in although room is at a premium in the small box. I think that at some point moving it to a bubble envelope might be a good idea and cheaper to send (maybe).

Dale

I think mine were pretty legible. They are in the smaller bags if anyone wants to pm me for more info.

There is no attatchment to the box. Put the seeds in whatever you want to ship. As long as it holds them all safely, I don't see what it matters.
