PaulG 2019

No grow log for the 2018 season other than the Pimenta de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques
thread dedicated to Trippa's cross. That one is an ongoing community project going into
second year and a test of the F7 generation. I imagine I will mention it once-in-a-while in
this thread, but the details of its progress will be in the dedicated thread.

I am deciding on a grow list for the 2019 season after growing only Trippa's cross this
season (2018). I definitely have some old favorites that will comprise the great majority
of the grow. I have limited space, so I'm counting on nature to help me make the final
decision. I'll probably start lots of seeds since I'm gun-shy from the poor germination
rates the past couple of seasons.

Here's the pool. Would be nice to be able to grow a bunch of all of them!  I think my
neighbor will shelter the overflow in his yard, but we'll see what to plant and how many
based on what might germinate

c. chinese - 10 varieties
  • PdN x BMJ, F7, white and violet varieties, Trippa's cross
  • Fatali, F2 of seed from Pepper Joe's
  • 7 Pot Burgundy, brown phenotype, pecan shape from 2017 F2 of the 7PB from Windchicken
  • Scotch Bonnet, MoA, F2 of seeds from John/Sim, not high production, but some nice pods
  • JA Red Habanero, F5 of seed from Walk Good/Devv
  • Yellow Scorpion, F7 aka Yellow Trinidad Moruga Scorpion and CARDI Scorpion, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Red, F4, from Spankycolts plant 2012
  • Bhut Jolokia, Chocolate, F3 of seed from Georgia Growhead
  • Bhut Jolokia, hybrid, F2 - I believe it is a  (BJred) x (Pdn x BMJ F1 or F2)
  • Yellow 7 Pot, F2 of seed from Trippa 2013
c. annuum - 4 varieties:
  • JA Red Mushroom, F3, brown phenotype, seed from Refining Fire
  • Pimenta de Padron - Spanish seed, fry up while small and green, throw on some salt
  • Pimenta del Piquillo - Spanish seed, sweet, very flavorful, small stuffers
  • Guindilla - Spanish seed, spicy heat, great pickled, long and skinny
c. frutescens - 2 varieties:
  • Nagahari from Tezpur, India, supposedly very, very hot freebie from Pepper Joe's 2017
  • Chili Costa Rica, F2 (2014) from Hippy Seed Company seed, 2012
c. pubescens - 1 variety:
  • Red Rocoto, F3 of Peruvian Market seed, 2016
That about does it. Seeding time will be here before we know it!

Hmmmm interesting ....

I have been saving a few things like old ice cream pales...they are only the 1.5L tubs...We give the kids Choc milk instead of alot of juices so been saving the 1L cartons as well and finally 4L milk jugs which are obviously larger then the other 2 but about 5 inches across or so. I may be able to stick some stuff in the 1L cartons for now and buy some time for some of my stuff anyways..I dont have a ton but maybe 40 or so??

I do have some pots as well of course that are in the range of yours..I will see what I got before I make any rash decisions :flamethrower:

Edit - PT :onfire:

Right on, Mr. Page topper!

Before I got the square pots, I used #1 nursery pots
(about 3 liters). I'm afraid anything smaller than two-liter
might cause issues, but the plants will survive a long
time in the cups, so who knows. I guess we're interested
in more than survival!!

So....how big (Tall) on average do ya figure they get for ya in the 2L pots?? average of course
And no topping I assume Paul?? sorry for the bombardment today btw No problem, friend!  ;)
Some reach 24" or more by mid-May and June.

Depends on the variety, of course. And I feed them well.

Almost too big to handle easily when transplanting.
You can see examples in this post.

I have to be careful not to snap them off, and make
sure they are supported in the breeze on the deck,
if necessary.

Put two of the rescue seedlings into dirt,

The 7 Pot Burgundy Pecan started sprouting
roots two days ago. Will go into dirt at some point:

Did I already tell you I like your library shelf thingy? What do they call those? Card catalogue? Yes :D Something like that lol

No... no...  I definitely think "library shelf thingy" is the preferred term.

Yeah, the LST is awesome!
That was a great find. Being tossed out by a school
because digital technology had taken over paper
card technology. The only drawback is that it holds
too much stuff, and I'm always searching the drawers
to find something. But as an organizer for nuts and bolts,
screws and small tools and implements, it is awesome!
Plus, it has a pull out shelf under the drawers.

The Card Catalog is dead. Long live the Nut and Bolt drawers!

Volunteer Mystery seedling has responded well
to the transplant. Getting a bit of a purple tint in
the leaf tip. Might narrow down possibilities if the
trend continues:

Nice roots on that Rocoto.
Great glog to follow. Thanks.
Thanks, Jacques. I hope your grow is looking pretty as well.
The Rocoto is my first try at a Kratky Jar.

Your grow is rockin!   Great stuff always going on over here. Love your rescue plant technique. I just try to uproot the extra ones and if the roots come out I replant and it gets to live...if not. :violin:

Awesome pics.  Looks like a lab.  Really cool.  I start'em and I plant'em.  I believe that Dr. Dangler needs to step up his game.
You have the two most important steps down, Dr.!
