The Sri Lanka Chili F3 cross is putting out lots of nickel-sized
pods. Looks like red is the final ripe color:

The F1 had upright half-inch red pods. The F2 had yellow pods
of some kind for Don’t Panic, and now the F3 has these red
mini-pumpkins.

Any thoughts on these, Mitch?

I've certainly been seeing a lot of variation out of this cross.

The pod shape is similar to what I'm seeing this year.  But, last year, that particular parent plant had smaller peppers.

I've got one plant that goes purple -> yellow/pumpkin -> red:

And I've got another that is going from green to what appears to be a fully ripe color of yellow (the red ones in the background are Aji Benito).

I have a few more plants, but they don't have any fully ripe pods yet.

Very little heat, pretty ugly taste, but other than
that a good pepper  I was disappointed. Was
hoping for the mini- habanero experience:

Lol, I can't disagree on the taste.  The heat seems to be hit-or-miss on mine.  I've had a few that get their heat up near habanero level.

I think I've seen other people say that a cross between an Annuum (the Sri Lankan Chile Red) and a Chinense typically results in a poor tasting pepper.  This cross is living up to that rule of thumb so far.

For my part, I'm most curious to see if the birds attack this plant again this year, or if what I ran into last year was a one-of-a-kind occurrence.

You are definitely getting your money's worth out of this one, Mitch!

Sort of like your own 'Chinese 5-Color'  / 'Omnicolor' / 'Bolivian Rainbow'!

Those look like nice pods!

Thanks for  your take on this, DP!

Potted plants enjoying the Summer morning sun on the deck:

The temps have settled into the mid-high
80's after the record-setting heat wave. Most of
the plants made it through okay, although that
would have been prime pod-setting time in a
normal year, and they dropped most of their
flowers. I do see some smaller pods here and
there. The wilds are setting pods routinely except
for the praetermissums.

Seen a few Ladybird Beetles around:

The 3-gallon JA Red Habanero has some
nice, big pods on it:

This is the best Papa Dreadie of the four plants.
Glad it is in a movable 3-gallon pot. Hopefully
will be able to get some pods on this one. Not
many flowers since the heat wave:

Things are looking great Paul! Glad your plants made it through that scorcher of a week... Hopefully stable summer temps from now on...
Thanks, HM.

Let's say stable and not too hot! It's funny
that now 90˚F doesn't seem so hot anymore.
It was 120˚F on our deck under the canopy
for two days. Ouch!

Glad to see you have things going forward
in your grow.

Everything is looking great Paul! Nice to see some sunny pics
Thanks, Fabrizio.

We definitely have all the sun we need this
summer! Can't say I'm sad to see the temperatures
over 110F in the past for this summer, and hope
it stays that way!

Keep everything together in the eurozone, my friend!
Enjoy the rest of the summer!

The nice Summer weather has the Tasmanian Black
pepper plant getting into serious pod-setting after a
long drought of flowers.

A real beauty indeed bro, have you tasted it yet? The flavor is really good IMO, crunchy with a decent fruitiness perfectly balanced by some smoky undertones. I like this one a lot too!

The first pods turned all wrinkly before I had a
chance to try one, then the 116˚F put the kibosh
on flowering until just recently. I am looking forward
to trying one. How is the heat level, if any?

Most pods were a bit under Cayenne level I'd say while some were only like average Jalapenos. And they take a long time to fully ripen btw!

I have noticed that, Bou! I love the ripe color,
though, so it’s worth the wait.

First pods off the JA Red Habanero ‘purple’ cross.
There is a gnarly pod or two on the plant waiting
to ripen up. To me, they seem to have a Bhut-ish
look:

Haven’t tried one yet. I am sure they are as hot
or hotter with the purple gene. The original JA Red
Habanero from Devv/WalkGood are pretty darn spicy.
