I showed the deer and quail pics to my employees on the job today and one of them said exactly the same thing as you about how beautiful our area is and sometimes we just need to take a step back and appreciate the wonderful place we live. Sometimes, when driving the 10 miles up the valley to the town of Twisp, I might pass 2-3 cars coming the other direction. Helluva commute...
Nice! Those changes seem more commonly to go the other direction.
i remember a funny story i read once:
a nasty neighbour called the by-law officer on their neighbour that "i've seen 8 (or whatever was the max residential allowance) chickens out on the yard every time i walk by, so there MUST be more than that for me to always see 8 outside.
officer goes round, talks to the resident, confirms there are in fact only eight chickens on the property, no infractions issued.
resident looks further into the by-laws and zoning, and discovers her property is actually zoned to allow up to 100 chickens, and promptly goes and gets a few dozen more chickens, strictly to spite and irritate the nasty neighbour.

Chickens are great - they eat most organic kitchen waste and they like snails
. As a bonus, they produce eggs and fertilizer. I hope the avian influenza epidemic hasn't hit your region though.

Our Son (salsakid) and his Lovely recently moved to their new home within the town limits of Twisp, right next to a garden with chickens. Literally...right outside their bedroom single pane windows. First day there, a dozen eggs on their door step.
We'll see how they like the 4am chickens after 6 months.
