Nice setup! Are you using the aerogarden for only starting the seeds, and then you plant them out into soil? Is it a quicker way to grow strong seedlings?

I'm also growing the last two varieties on your new grow list. BootsieB said they were Gwari Put and Wa Mae Wo. I don't read Korean so I'll have to take his word for it. So far, the biggest of the varieties I got from him is the Wa Me Wo, but the Gwari Put is the most prolific. Good luck with your new grow. I'll be keeping an eye on it...

the wa mae wo has pink seeds on mine, what about yours?one of my koreans is gochu right?

Did some small amending today for the clay soil only did 1yard i think
it looks crap

Did some transplanting also, to my surprise when i watered all my transplant with the mix i used, the water just past through

And Some of my other plants

Root Pouch Group

Greenhouse Section

And my Bolivian Rainbow

Did some small harvesting

Looking good Pinoy!! I need one of those aero gardens now, would make germinating new varieties so much easier! How is the clay out there in Hawaii? Bet it's better than the cali clay I deal with here, good thing is, my alabama jumper worms are doing a great job of breaking it up. I bought about 6 pounds of whole tilapia today. Cut it up, and dug some holes about 1 foot deep in my large bed, put one piece in each hole and covered the hole back up. Will take some time to break down I am sure, but once it does my ground will love it. Maybe you could do that to your ground too? Cool thing is, every hole I dug I found tons of alabama jumpers, they must be multiplying which means my investment on those pricey worms was worth it! lol. Keep up the good work friend :)

thanks melissa aerogarden is the bomb for me when germinating seeds, its an old garden when we moved here my dad told me he burried fish in there before the whole 5yards, the clay its like 50/50 some soft some hard, prolly thats why all the hawaiian chiles had survived and grow strong before i think they on there 2 or 3rd year already but i move some in the containers so i can amend it more, i was digging the clay found some worms but not a lot, im waiting for my worm factory 360 that i ordered, and i already have a contact were to get my worms he will be selling me some 700+ red wigglers for $40 ill put the other half in the garden hopefully they can do some work in the clay

Nice harvest Pinoy!!! Making a nice little bed for your plants there! They're gonna love it!

thanks shane, yea some of it, i have to relocate all the mother plants in one area since they grow like 5 feet high so i have to put them in the back and the small ones in front

the wa mae wo has pink seeds on mine, what about yours?one of my koreans is gochu right?
Well, the Korean word for pepper is gochu, so technically any pepper is a gochu. Even sweet peppers like Bells or Cubanelles, but I take it to mean the chiles they dry to make gochu garu. The Wa Mae Wo is one of those. The other Korean varieties are meant to be used fresh, in stir-fries and curries, and pickled. I bet they'd be awesome roasted and peeled and used in Chile Verde or in hot sauce.
All the Korean seeds I got from BootsieB came from the same source yours did, and they coated the seeds with an anti-fungal compound to help keep them from damping off. Nothing to worry about unless you want to use only untreated seed. I think they add different colors to keep the different varieties separated until they package them up in seed packets. I've gotten some that were blue, green or dark red too. Cheers

Hi Pinoy

Well yeah... crap and humus are both digested carbon compounds... People digest one, bacteria and fungi digest the other. Both are great in gardens.

Did some transplanting also, to my surprise when i watered all my transplant with the mix i used, the water just past through

Yeah Baby! That's what we're talkin' about! I think you'll notice that the chiles you have planted in the mix will be a lot happier since they can put out more roots with less effort and they won't be waterlogged unless it rains very hard for a while. Do you get Monsoon type rains where you are? The new bed is kind of like a bowl of cheerios... the sides and bottom of the hole you dug are still clay and will hold water like the bowl. The new soil mix is like the cheerios... lots of space between the bits of cereal for the milk to go into. Pour enough milk in the bowl and you'll fill it and it won't drain out. Try not to overdo it with the Nitrogen too... A little bit early on to help them get some size before they start to blossom is OK, but continue to feed them Nitrogen at the same rate afterwards and you'll get very green and impressive looking plants but many fewer blossoms. Cheers

melissa.. like i tell shane .. you really should try to invest in it... make you're on ghetto starter kit like me and pinoy have...
0588aa93.jpg

takes 10 minutes... i know time to you is valuable.. hahaha... but you can start 20-50 seeds in one small area and have good lighting and temp...

with regards to the fish.. i might have to do that.. but will see if i can invest in a cheap blender and grind it up.. maes it easier to break down..

just like how i mulch my greens 1st before i toss them in the compost bin....scared though dogs will dig it up...id have to do it secretively... wife was upset plants was getting carbonated water(with african violet) and now the ground will be getting TILAPIA!!?? WTH... HAhahhaah she also gets jealous when i get midnight texts from Pinoy!!

Cool, thanx stickman, yea theres lots of big clays on the ground, so no need mix the bone n blood meal for now ?
I'd say you want to emphasize root growth and flowers more than leaves. If you're going to go with solid fertilizers like bone and blood meal, check out the NPK ratio printed on the bags. 10-10-10 is good to start with, but ease off on the nitrogen when your chiles start to bud up. If you're adding tea with fish emulsion in it you don't need to add more nitrogen to the soil. The tea will provide it. Being in liquid form it'll be used up fairly quickly... say a couple of weeks or so. I went the other route and added my NPK as solids when I prepared the bed for planting. In my case the rainwater, which is slightly acidic, dissolves the solids and washes them down to the roots. That's why I get most of my growth after it rains. The organic solids don't dissolve all at once, and continue to put out nutes for a couple of months. Not a better system... just different means to the same end.

ok got it thanks again

Small harvest today some jalapenos

@PinoyPride83 Great shots of your process and tests. Is Ewa beach soil sandy? Is that why you're starting most of your seeds inside? Here on Maui I'm starting them outside in seedling trays and trying to keep it lowest maintenence as possible. I found my Trinidads germinate way faster than the Bhut Jolokia.

Looking forward to seeing more photos. I just post these on instagram lastnight and this morning:
