Pod Shots With Macro Lens 06-23-09

all, I thank you for the comments and I surely will not stop posting pictures...THP himself would have to slow me down...I love sharing my peppers...

as far as the photography goes, it is a new learning process for me because I forgot what I knew about F stop and exposure and lenses and all that stuff about 30 years ago when I went to fully automatic cameras...I am now back in the ball game with a camera that can do wonders...please be patient with me since this is going to be a long drawn out learing experience...

I start classes in a couple of weeks...I have 18 free classes on digital photography that came with the purchase of this camera and I surely am going to attend them...until then, I will muddle along with "easy" shots and learning as I go...

thanks joe...

here is a shot of a Naga Morich....

Very nice pics AJ. What's the difference on the seed sources for the two Bhuts?

Gnarly one came from PRF...the longer one is from Pablo

nice shots AJ, just not the sharpest..
you should be able to get really crisp sharp images with the 50D.
try using manual focusing..change it from auto to manual... much easier to capture sharper shots.... you could also try over exposing it half a stop...not hard at all you just need to increase the shutter speed.. and over expose it a little more so you dont lose any light...the great thing about digital is you can do tons of trial and error without it costing you an arm and a leg like the good old days with film...and if you notice the pics are too exposed, drop down half a stop unitl you get a good crisp, clean image, properly exposed image..

If you close down the lens, you get greater depth of field which will bring more stuff in focus.

To compensate for less light, you may have to slow down the shutter speed. But that's a serious high dollar SLR, so you can do about anything. You'll be having lots of fun with that one. I'll bet the original size pics, not these compressed midgets, are stunning.

Bingo... I just said I needed more depth of field and I have just had time to read you guys posts...

thanks gents...

Holy Smoke AJ!!! Those are some impressive pictures...Just imagine how much more impressive they will be after your classes. Then, not only are you going to be growing in a professional manner, you will be taking National Geographic type pictures.

You wouldn't be interested in adoption would ya?

Thanks Paul...all I am gonna do is keep trying...

AJ,

I really like the cayenne image as well as the TS image for the first set. For the second set, I love the Bih and the Naga.

I have issues with macros with my point and shoot Nikon and am glad that you posted this because of the very helpful comments.

These are by far some of your best photos in my humble opinion...

Please post more.

Hi AJ

I really liked those last few pics you posted, looks like you are learning more. I love looking at chilli pics and taking them but unfortunately don't have a good macro camera yet...one day.
Keep the pics coming!

AJ, Please keep them coming. As we Aussies help you through your off season with chilli porn so shall you help us through our off season with yours....

I'm getting all excited over the ripe ones....

Remember AJ, you can also bump the ISO (film speed if it were film) to increase Depth of Field. Higher ISO will give you greater sensitivity to light and you can run a smaller aperture. You'll sacrifice a little noise, but I'm pretty sure that camera has a wide range of ISO settings. Try taking a few shots with a slow shutter speed of 1/60th and see if if you get good DOF. You won't capture motion at that speed, but plants aren't race cars.

I think that they are great...no, not strong enough word...They are fabulous pics and I enjoy viewing them. A little envious over your new toy though.

Your've got some nice clear pics there AJ. I like the first one of the Trinidad Scorpion with the water droplets, keep them coming

The max ISO of the D50 is 1600 like it is for my 450D. Best thing is a tripod to prevent blur by camera shake. Then use the Av mode and chose the smallest aperture for max DOF. Even with longer shutter times the tripod may provide sharp pics.

P.S.: Keep on posting pics! We are addicted!

Resolution: 15.10 Megapixels
Viewfinder: Optical / LCD
LCD Size: 3.0 inch
ISO: 100-12800
Shutter: 30-1/8000

Of course it's way too noisy at that speed. ;)

thanks all...been practicing a little more this morning and got a few good shots...still not as clear as I wanted though...

Jalapeno Heaven....shows a good bit of corking

Definitely. And it changes color balance almost daily so I keep taking pics of mine too.
