thanks, that makes alot of sense. I should concentrate more on practicing & making good sounds than thinking my geetar doesn't "compare" to other axes ;)

I have been looking at the Dean acoustics as well. I liked their designs from the start. Electrics too. I may look at getting an acoustic later.

I think it would surprise you if you got the chance to plug it into a big stack tube amp. The amp is, dare I say, more important than the guitar. Just my opinion based on what I've seen my cheap ones do on different amps. My bro-in-law has a studio [he does some production work] and I've plugged into his Mesa Boogie and Fender Twin Reverb, and the difference is amazing.

From a little venue in Denton, TX last night.

A purdy young lady was kind enough to take a coupla' pics for me on my bat phone.

Flying V with Lollar p90's straight up into a Clark 5f1 Tweed Champ clone. Had the bass thump goin' with my little stomp box.

All that was missin' was an ass pocket of whiskey.

Who says you can't play a V sittin' down? Smack that guy in da' face!

Nice TB. How long was your set? and where are all the bras and panties chicks were throwin at you?

Can you do 'around the world' with that V sitting down? i know you can, cuz you ARE The TB.

That particular V is a faded '06, slightly used, I bought from Cowtown Guitars in LV, in '08 I think. (Cowtown and my pal Jesse Amoroso are often featured on Pawn Stars) Hated the 500t and 498r ceramic pup's it had in it. Those are good for metal but not much else. I already had, and still do, another alpine white V I bought new in '07 that I did the same mod. RS pots and caps and Jason Lollar regular Scatterwounds. Got some custom pick guards to fit the new layout although dang, I can't 'member the name of company. As the '67 V style is very similar to a strat with all the electronics attached to the pg and set into a routed body, the guitars sound very stratty but with much bigger balls. I like to call them the best strats that fender never made.

The first V I ever had was an '81 I bought new from Robin Guitars in Houston. Gorgeous maple top and I liked it well enough but it was a neck diver and got rid of it. V's and SG's are notorious for being neck heavy so try before you buy.

The amp is a Clark 5f1 I had built back in '04. Dug it so much I got a 5e3 from Michael Clark too. While the Champ is rated at only 5 watts, (I was running the vol. at 7 1/2) cranked up its probably more like 8 watts or a little more. Both amps are tone monsters out the ying yang. I have a '79 Marshall JMP 2204 2 holer that is killer and I'd never sell it but nowadays I play the tweeds almost exclusively. I pretty much only fire up the 2204 to keep the caps from drying out.

Truth be told Scovie, no bras or panties were flying. I performed very poorly as I often experience extreme performance anxiety. Both hands were shaking almost uncontrollably and I screwed the pooch on the lyrics of one of my own tunes. Normally I can push through it by say the 3rd or 4th song but this venue is so popular in Denton that their are often up to 20 musicians signed up for a spot and hence you are strictly limited to 10 minutes and 2 songs, no exceptions. Did I mention it was an open mic?

Sometimes I fall down.

But I get up again.

Even Jimi must have sucked once.

Okay maybe not.

Most recently I played a Music Man Silhouette Special, but have owned many of the classics over the years (Fender, Gibson, G&L, Jackson, Martin).

Growing up, I was first attracted to guitar mostly by Iron Maiden - in particular guitarist Adrian Smith.  In those days (Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind), Adrian often rocked the Ibanez Destroyer.  I'm not a particular fan of Ibanez but there was always something about the Destroyer body shape I loved.  I always wanted one, but after the 80s it faded into obscurity ... until now.  Ibanez reissued this classic (with improvements) for 2013.  I've got GAS!!

Wow. Dig Adrian's back line. Those heads may be rated @100 watts but when cranked up they are probably pushing closer to 150 watts each. That's a lot of lead slingin' out of those cabs!

Back in the 80's for a long time I lusted for an Explorer  but after playing several I found them to be too big a guitar for me, much like a Firebird. While big and pointy looking, V's are a better fit for me some how. After seeing Billy G on the cover of Fandango I just had to have one. Albert King certainly contributed to my lust for one as well. Funny too is that both V's are pretty dang light, under 8 pounds and they feel lighter than my Jr. Go figure.

Hottoddy, you and I both know, once you get GAS, you have it forever and there is no real cure.

ouch. Sorry to hear that TB, anxiety of any kind is debilitating and it just plain sucks. Especially when it is a hobby or something thats just 'posed to be fun. I hear picturing everybody nekked helps. :) And HHWISKEY... you should have brought a flask! I am sure you didnt sound quite a bad as you think. only YOU know what you wanted to sound like. As you know, arteestesses are way harder on themselves than anyone else. You'll KILL IT next time.

Now you've done it! I spent 15 mins last night reading bout & looking it over on various websites. :D Now I want one.

I have serious GAS..................for one of these. As I don`t have $15-20 grand for a guitar, I`m building one that is similar.

On another note, on another forum, the name of which I won't mention because it would be spamming, I just had a wee little online post and reply with this guy...
