R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman

Very sad.

Then again while I saw 500 "RIP PSH" posts today, one post was from a friend who today celebrated 4 years sobriety.

It gave me pause as to which was more noteworthy.

Addiction is a hell of a thing.

Loved PSH as Brandt in Big Lebowsli. Talented guy.

really angry about this.  selfish waste.  kids.  jerk.

thankful for some real wonderful material.  worthy of great praise.

what a waste..

We've lost plenty of greats in the past few years, including a LOT in the past year, and usually it's just a passing point of interest to me (I gave up on looking at actors/celebrities as anything more than fellow humans long ago)... But this one managed to take me off-guard.

I saw one post and thought, "Okay, another hoax." and then within minutes they were cropping up from multiple news sources.

He was one hell of an actor and I found that he just kept getting better with age. In my opinion he had a very genuine air about him. He was intelligent, critical and very precise in his attitude and portrayals.

Agreed - I also think his best work was still ahead of him (which is saying a lot)

Tragic waste. I don't judge a man for his demons - apparently he'd battled them for a long time. Hard drugs are a crap shoot every time. There's a reason anesthetists are highly trained and don't use street drugs.

RIP Mr Hoffman

Another junkie goes down.

This is why I hate drugs. They ruin everything.

So sad. I loved his movies. Great talent gone too soon.

Not one of my favorite actors and with a net worth around 35 million you would think he could have found other ways to have some fun. :high:

What I'm willing to bet happened is that he immediately took a dose the size of the ones he used to take back when he regularly did heroine. That's what happens in a lot of heroine overdose cases. Stuff is horrible.

Addiction progresses if you are using or not.

Was anyone aware that he was a heroine addict? I mean folks here, not people in his life. I don't read smear mags or even watch the news. Remember George Willis Jr. from Scent Of a Woman? I think we all know a George from back in school. Great actor.
