RocketMan's 2013 Glog; In The House!!

There are no gardening mistakes, only experiments." -- Janet Kilburn Phillips

I love that quote and it will try my best to remember it through this new grow. So, I'm going with only 18 varities this year as we're looking at moving to a larger house if not buying this summer and I really don't want to have to try and haul a ton of plants when we do. the ones I've selected are:

1. 7 Pot Jonah---------------------------- Pic 1
2. Aji Lemon------------------------------- romy6
3. Chili De Arbol Negro------------------ smokemaster via SocalChilihead
4. Datil-------------------------------------- Pic 1
5. Fatalii------------------------------------ Pic 1
6. Gochu----------------------------------- Stickman
7. Red Savania--------------------------- Pic 1
8. Chocolate Habanero----------------- Pic 1
9. West Indian Yellow Habanero------ Pic 1
10. Jalabanero---------------------------- SocalChilihead
11. Jalapeno------------------------------- frydad4

Alot of them are ones i started last year that never grew beyond a certain point and I'm pretty sure that a lot of it was my new grower mistakes. Since I really want to try them I'm giving them a grow again. Once again, thanks to everyone that helped me getting started with gifts of seeds and to all on here thanks for leaving your incredable words of wisdom that we can all learn from.

Cheers to a bountiful grow this year.

Funny you should mention sourdough starter... when I was stationed at Ft Carson and living off post with another guy from my company, I had a tub of sourdough starter going in the 'fridge. Every weekend I had to take out a cup and a half of the starter and feed it by adding another cup and a half of flour and milk. I wasn't into baking bread in those days, but to use the starter I'd withdrawn, I'd make pancakes. There was just enough for two people, so we never told any of the other guys about it. ;)

I assume you're planning on using the hooch for making sauces?

Wow didn't realize that I had gotten 2 pages behind, apologies mon.

I don't want to work

I love me some sourdough.  It makes a mean grilled cheesus....french toast...and just about anything that includes BREAD!  LOL.

Then after we get moved i to the new house and after I get the starter started and it's doing good I'll figure out how to send you some.

So we did the first beer pairing last night and it was a really good combination. I did a little research first about beer pairing and according to what I found when you pair you want to EITHER, have a brew that compliments the food item or is a contrast to it so that you are filling out the pallet. In other words if the food item is sweet and bitter then you would want a sour or floral beer. The preferred way to do a beer pairing taste test is to eat, drink, drink, eat. So we took a bite of the chocolate which was very rich with the taste of the Espresso beans and the dark chocolate was very smooth and bitter. The first pairing was to Southern Tier's Creme Brulee Stout. This is a bitter and sweet beer that I thought would be a good complement to the chocolate and it really was. The first bite of chocolate was completely changed when a sip of the beer was taken. The strong bitter coffee flavor was greatly mellowed by the sweet/bitter of the beer and then when reversed and a sip of beer is taken followed by the chocolate the Creme Brulee flavors take on the Espresso bean for a really fantastic finish. We really enjoyed this combination. Tomorrow night will be a beer that I think will contrast but might also complement the espresso chocolate in a way.
Well, my friend at work completely hooked me up again with some of his Guyanese peppers. These are Wiri Wiri's a Capsicum Frutescen taht will give a habanero a run for it's money. Very flavorful and smells great when you pop it open. these came from seed his mother and dad brought him from Guyana.

I'll get some inside shots when I open a few tonight or tomorrow.

I thought chocolate and beer were meant for each other. I use chocolate malt in my beer and real chocolate in my chocolate raspberry beer. I might have to try using some chili infused chocolate in my next brew.

finally the packet is in the hands of the Underwriter and we should know this week if we're going to get to buy the house or not. They keep telling us that it's a good packet and we have a great chance but the waiting and all the "stuff" we've had to deal with up to now is making it a very nervous time for us. Prayers and good thoughts really appreciated.

Good luck on getting that house - sent up a prayer from Michigan for you.  That new "launching pad" had some cool possibilities that I hope we get to see play out!

Well, I really wasn't expecting this when I got home today but:

Best of luck on the closing, i read the whole story before i joined up here on thp and i was so sad to see it unfold like that. Its hard enough when it goes well...
