Thanks for stopping by, and check back soon, I'm sure this season is bound to be interesting.

Welcome to this Saturday episode of RoninGarden,

The weather has turned for the season...
newforecast_zpsfa108270.jpg

This time of year in Colorado is when you can have all 4 seasons in one day, sometimes in one hour...
The early frost forced me to early harvest 45lbs of tomatoes.
IMG_7973_zps8adf1c56.jpg

I don't have the time or patience for messing with hoop houses, blankets and heaters.....
They'll sit in the boxes and ripen off plant. I kept as many as possible still attached to a vine.

All plants are in the house at the moment.
Some in their overwinter spot in the basement, others in the kitchen for the time being.
The peppers in the basement have gone through the decontamination process ( leaf trim, spraying, and compressed air).
The peppers in the kitchen will still be going outside during the day for the near future.
Not all the remaining kitchen peppers will make the overwinter cut.
Some still have fruit waiting to ripen others I'm trimming before they make the move to the basement.
Here's a pic of the kitchen table:

Here is a look at the Yellow Brain plant.
The stem is extra stout after not splitting...
This one is going to be an interesting plant..
IMG_8019_zps7daf6088.jpg

Here is where the choice few will end up later for the winter.
Currently there are 12 peppers in the basement grow spot.

Your situation is pretty much the same as mine. I harvested a ton of green tomatoes yesterday, and most of the peppers. Anything in a container went into the garage, but like you, I don't have the time or patience to fool with the whole season extension effort. Still need to decide if I'm going to try and overwinter any of the container plants, but after battling aphids last year, I'm leaning towards starting fresh. You look like you've got the whole overwintering thing down to a science. Good job!

That's a great update. Love what you're doing for overwintering. I just trim them and put them in a room, then see what happens. Had a day job with aphids last winter with two plant. Wonder what will happen this time with ten

I just spent last Saturday putting up a second 6.5' x 6.5' x 6.5' grow tent. In my bonus room. What we do for peppers . . .

Brought in several plants from outside and put them in it, hauling them up the stairs.

Here is a look at the Yellow Brain plant.

Here is my Butch T that had three branches that did not split from the main stem, but stayed attached. The leaves at the top are super close together.

I'm really glad I did harvest all the tomatoes.. Had a few thoughts of regret at first... but now seeing what's left of the tomato plants, Yeah, I made the right decision.
They're actually ripening up nicely.
I'm on a sauce making mission!

I hope you have better luck this year with your overwinters.

Did you plant any of those seeds i sent you yet?
Oh Yeah!
I put 7 in Rapid Rooters the night I got them.
They're sitting on the wifi as we speak...

Decisions, decisions, this is just the first run. With the selection you sent, these were the first I wanted to get to work on...
Many more to come!

Looks like the Butch is a happy camper in the mesh container!
I'd like to see some close-up shots of the stemmage if possible...

On this Tuesday episode of RoninGarden,
Continuation of winter preps...
My peppers are split up right now...
I have half permanently being overwintered in the basement and the other half is hanging out in the kitchen.
With the crazy weather, I have the kitchen dwellers sitting on the table eating up the Colorado sun.
Even with the indirect sunlight I have plants showing new growth as well as putting on pods...
I'll be doing the kitchen shuffle until it gets too cold outside for the peppers to hang out during the day.
This could go on until mid November...
It's not unusual to have 80 degree days all the way into December..
This is what keeps it interesting...

Here is a pic of the kitchen dwellers:
IMG_8048_zpsb95e1c43.jpg

Their numbers are shrinking...

Here is the basement overwinter area.
Up to 14 peppers now.

On a closing note,
Glad to see my garden security force decided to move in with the garden.

That Douglah is already growing back. My Mustard Habanero plant was huge until i cut it back for the winter. It's showing new growth just like your douglah.

Thanks Jedisushi06!

That leaves the remaining seeds to sprout. I think I'll see 2 more pop in the next 24 hrs...
IMG_8124_zps70af130b.jpg

I had to make room for the next up and coming rock stars for the 2013 season.
Therefore I had to evict a few peppers from airpots. They were placed in 3" pots and will remain in RoninKitchen for the winter.

IMG_8063_zps65e836c7.jpg

The kitchen table crowd is thinning out....
Soon they'll all be in the basement.

Here are the happy campers in the basement.
Chillin for the winter..
IMG_8122_zpsca342000.jpg

Since we got our frost and the rest of the vegetable garden has been harvested, I got busy on next springs harvest.
Garlic.
Planted 1 dozen in the raised bed that once housed the tomatoes.
I'll be planting much more garlic before the winter sets in... Just gotta find some good varieties..
IMG_8080_zps0e96c75a.jpg

I'll end this update with another of my garden enforcement crew.
Hangin in the basement..

Hey, CR! Had a lot of fun catching up on your late summer/fall grow.
We are getting some 40 degree swings here, too, when it's clear and
cold at night. When it gets cloudy, the temps warm a bit, and we may
only get a 10 degree swing. The temp curve sometimes looks almost flatline!

Your Yellow 7 and the atomic starfish are awesome. Great production for
you in the high desert! I bookmarked your OW page - great info, thanks.
Have a good winter, buddy!

Thanks Paul!
This past season has been a great learning experience.
I can see I'm going to get a good education this winter with my overwinter project.
The Starfish continues to pump out pods...
Have a great winter as well and all the best to your overwinter endeavors!

Welcome to this Friday edition of RoninGarden,

The garden is almost fully indoors.
I have 5 peppers still enjoying the Colorado fall sun.
This is a managable number to deal with for now.

Here are 4 of them soaking up the rays...
IMG_8192_zps471a73cd.jpg

I have two new members in the garden.
#10 and #12

Germ rates are looking good. Every one I planted has sprouted. 100% so far...
Rapid Rooters on the wifi. Works for me..

I decided to experiment with the sprouts and try to improve the root growth while in the rapid rooters.
An aeroponic/dwc/hydro project. I just want to get a healthy root system prior to transplanting into 1/2 liter airpots.
We'll see how it goes...
IMG_8188_zps0986d44b.jpg

I've seen similiar set ups used with great success.
Gotta try a ghetto project every once in a while to prove shit can get done.

Here is the basement overwinter spot.
Having a hell of a time getting good pics.
Now I know what all you indoor guys deal with when taking pics of your garden...
IMG_8182_zps12939a94.jpg

IMG_8190_zps886cb720.jpg

I'll find the optimal way of getting good pics here soon.

Don't know how this one got in.... But who's asking?
IMG_8171_zps769fedc4.jpg

With the addition to the garden security force you think one would rest...
Not so...

Until the next uodate....

Awesome organization with logging your grow, man. It really does help with feeding schedules/plant ages/etc when you've got that many plants and grow both indoors and out. Props.

Otherwise these 3 will live in RoninKitchen from now on...

The remainder of the overwinters are on the windowsill in the basement.

Far more growth all around than I was expecting from a simple T8 lamp.

Here is how the new 2013 line-up stands.

2013 lineup:

Planted in Rapid Rooters on 10/6
#1 popped on 10/20 R.I.P 10/20 helmet head decap

#12 popped on 10/19

Planted RR on 10/20
#1 planted again and waiting

7 Pot Douglah planted on 10/3 sprouted on 10/10

Damn good germ rate as far as I'm concerned.
All sprouts are currently residing in my ghetto dwc/aero root boosters.
I placed some mylar/bubble reflective material on top to mitigate algae/mold/funk growth and keep heat down in the resevoir as well.
IMG_8291.jpg

IMG_8292.jpg

Heathy roots are already starting to pop.
So far so good with the ghetto hydro.

As I took photos of the plants I was under observation.

Wow, I'm amazed at the way you have jumped right in with the indoor grow! Honestly, I am not ready to start over yet. At least not until I finish processing this year's harvest.

Your view outside today looks very similar to mine at the moment. Hopefully, it will clear out before Halloween.

Thanks!
As the summer outdoor season was in full effect, I was researching and educating myself on the indoor and overwinter process.
Sometimes jumping in is the only way!
We got about 4" in that dumping... In typical Colorado fashion, It was gone by 3pm that day..

Great indoor grow setup and pictures!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my Glog Stefan!
My indoor grow area was a "wet bar" in the basement.
Nobody drinks like college kids in the house, so I decided to repurpose the area to grow.
Lined it with some emergency blankets attached to some cardboard and boom! Grow room.
Here is what it looks like closed:

Open:
IMG_8312.jpg

Gonna try and keep it simple.... We'll see how that goes...

Welcome to this Sunday edition of RoninGarden,

So far so good, all is well in the garden.
IMG_8369.jpg

I've come across a few aphids here and there. But nothing crazy... Yet.
I am hoping to allow all the natural predators to maintain the balance.
I will allow them the chance to do so, But I am already prepared to spray.
Not something I will want to do as it will probably kill off all the beneficials too.

Here is a good sign, babies!
IMG_8363.jpg

Jumping spiders! Keep in mind it is smaller than a pepper seed.
This was just one of a dozen or so that I've spotted.

Along with the spiders I have a few ladybugs floating around.
IMG_8370.jpg

On to the new sprouts..

These are the first 4 sprouts.

Second round of 4 sprouts.

IMG_8360.jpg

All 8 of these sprouts are in maxwell house coffee containers with an airstone inside.
I just want to boost root growth prior to transplanting into Airpots.
I may keep one in the ghetto hydro/dwc bubbler.
That will be decided at a later date. Don't know if I want to be chasing ph levels and such...

Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome to this Thursday edition of RoninGarden,

Today started off with what may be the final harvest off the Atomic Starfish:
IMG_8413.jpg

There are still a few pods on the plant, just waiting for them to ripen.
This pepper has stopped producing flowers since moving indoors into Roninkitchen.

Shortly after waking up to a harvest and grabbing some coffee, I got to work on upgrading some housing for a few sprouts.
All 8 sprouts I had in my ghetto hydro/dwc maxwelll house cans got moved up to 1/2 liter Airpots.

Here was the first set of 4 to make the move:
IMG_8424.jpg

And this is the second set of 4 prior to the move:
IMG_8429.jpg

All 8 made the move into the basement grow spot.
Pulled back view:

Here are a few up-close shots of the basement grow spot from left to right:
IMG_8438.jpg

IMG_8439.jpg

Closer shot of the 8 new sprouts:
IMG_8441.jpg

So far everything has been uneventful in the basement grow spot.
A few aphids here and there, but nothing to freak out about yet..
It appears the basement security force has been keeping the enemies at bay.
IMG_8418.jpg

Amazing to see the turquoise color. Not bad for a point and shoot camera.
Your always under observation in RoninGarden..
