Welcome to RoninGarden.

On this Friday morning episode,

Well it's finally done raining.
We received a little over 1" in the last 2 days.
Not alot by most standards, but here in the high and dry country, that's a grip of rain.
This threw off my feeding schedule by a few days, but that's ok..
Plants always seem to respond well after a good natural shower.

Todays update will only be a few pics...

We'll start off with my ghetto dehydrator.. A repurposed jiffy greenhouse..
Gotta take advantage of our intense sun and low humidity.
Got some Bhuts, peters, and white habs drying out..

A few more of the Trinidad Scorpion pods ripening:
tscorp_7297.jpg

Here is the Yellow Brain up close... I'll have to get some more pics of this one...
In these pics it appears that the main stem did not spread apart and have created a super thick stalk with pods and branches coming out in every direction.
Can't wait to see how this develops...

I'll close out this update with one of my garden sentinels.

I have a butch t like this. Triple thick, but in a laminar fashion. I will have to compare its progress with this one.

On this Tuesday morning episode of RoninGarden,

Winter prep.
Temps have been steadily getting cooler at night.
Hovering in the high 40's at night lately.
Therefore I've been trimming back some foliage in advance to get them ready to be downsized into smaller pots for the overwintering stage.
This last season was a prep for next season.
Very few peppers made it into containers larger than 1.5 gallon.
My reasoning for this was to build up a strong root and stem for a good jumpstart on next season.
The first to get trimmed down and transplanted from a 5 gallon bucket down to a 1 liter airpot was the Douglah.
This spent the entire season in a 5 gallon bucket but never produced any pods.. Got volunteer written all over it...

Here are some pics of the process.

This along with a few choice others will move into the basement to live under a t8 lamp for the winter.
I'll post pics of the next trim and repot.

Here is a pic of yesterdays harvest:
Clockwise: Giant Bhuts at noon, brainy Yellow 7 Pots, Atomic Starfish, serrano, Butch T pod, followed by not red 7 pots.

Way cool to see the root mass from the 5 gal container, i might trim a few down like you did just to give it a shot.
Colder weather here i moved my plants into the garage and under the 6gal buckets where i drilled the drain holes i noticed roots and was thinking ....dang how much room do the plants need... later got to the 15 gal smart pot to move it and it was stuck to the ground...pulled it up to see a bunch of roots also..grew right through the fabric material...amazing that a first year plant can use up room.
Good luck with your project you got going.

Nice work on over wintering that plant. Looks like those nutes from GO worked out for u. I ran out and need to get over to Durango tomorrow for another box. I got some seeds for u for your grow next year. PM your address again so i can get them out soon. My season is just begining indoors. I'm going to be selling my plants next spring becuase i'm moving back to Missouri in July.

wow... really.. thats how much u should trim it??? scurred..

Thanks for stopping by KingD!
I went a little further than I should have.... but that's ok..
It'll have a huge jumpstart on next season..

Thanks for checking out my glog!
I'll be doing the garage shuffle here soon as well...
I just wanted to get the larger plants into smaller containers ahead of time to make the shuffle easier..

The General Organics kicked ass this season!
Can't wait to see your pod porn while the rest of the nation is under snow.
Pm on it's way! Thanks!

On this Wednesday afternoon episode of RoninGarden,

Continuation of the winter prep.
Today I downsized two peppers.
The Peter and the White Habanero were downsized from 1.5 gallon airpots to 1 liter airpots.
We'll start off with Peter..

In a 1.5 gallon airpot:

I didn't cut back the branches as dramatically as I did on the Douglah.
I'm sure I'll experience some leaf drop along with this transplant, which I expect.
I'll cut back branches little by little allowing the pepper to take to it's new home first.

Thanks for stopping by!
Until the next update....

[sup]I had to cut mine back a while ago to twigs because it was to hot for them to flower upstairs in the grow room and now they are huge thanks to thos GO nutes. Yours will come back also. [/sup]

I heard only about cutting them down. First u heard about cutting roots as well. So far we arent there get with the weather in SoCal.

On this Thursday afternoon episode of RoninGarden,
Update on the douglah and a few pod pics.

This is a good sign..

It is that time of year... how many are you overwintering all together?

Thanks for stopping by my Glog SG !
Right now I'm looking at 34 to be overwintered.
I have a few that are doubles and triples of the same strain which I will be thinning out the herd on those...
I'll probably end up with more than I should... reoccurring theme with peppers...
This will be a mix of 1.5 gallon airpots as well as 1 liter airpots.

Here are a few Trinidad Scorpion pods that'll be harvested tommorrow.

After this harvest, this plant will be getting the stepdown to a 1.5 gallon airpot from a 3.4 gallon airpot.
Getting ready for winter!

Been playing musical chairs lately in the garden.
With the change of seasons I had to move a few plants to allow full day sun exposure.
Gotta keep the kids happy!

Thanks for stopping by!
Until the next update...

nice garden update on the OW plants

Thanks KingD!

On this Friday afternoon episode of RoninGarden,
I changed my mind on downsizing the Trinidad Scorpion from a 3.4 gal airot to a 1.5 gal airpot.
Don't know what I'm gonna do with it just yet..
Final harvest of Trinidad Scorpions as well as a few more downsize operations...
Today the Black Habanero and the 7 Pot got transferred from 5 gallon buckets to 1.5 gallon airpots.

We'll start off with the harvest pic.
Small but all homegrown..

You are always under observation in RoninGarden..

Thanks for stopping by!
Until the next update...

Have you given that little guy a name yet? He (or she) is a good little guardian.

You are way ahead of me on the winter prep, but I have company in my guest room / overwintering room / grow room, so I'll have to move things into the garage until the space is freed up. That's probably just as well, since last year I moved things inside too soon, and had aphid issues. Think I'll blast everything with insecticidal soap a couple of times before moving them in this time around

There is a chance of rain tonight and tomorrow. Usually after the moisture clears out, the nighttime lows drop like a stone, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a frost advisory later this week! How about you guys? Any frost in the forecast yet?

No update for a week? Has the season ended for you??? We have a predicted low of 30 for Saturday night, so I've got to pull everything on Friday, and decide if I want to try and overwinter anything.

I know... No updates... But the season continues..
Been kinda pre-occupied with the trench warfare going on in the front yard lately.. Hopefully it'll be done today...
IMG_7938_zpsbbf2f2b7.jpg

Throughout all this, the weather has been my major concern lately.
We too have frost in the forecast.
Colorado, gotta love it.. 40 degree temperature swings.. Fall in the high country!
forecast_zps5f0af124.jpg

I think I'll be doing the garage shuffle for a while.
Even though we'll get the freezing temps at night we'll still have 80 degree days into november..
Just don't want to force the kids into the basement if there are such nice days still..
Wish I had a greenhouse....

On this long overdue episode of RoninGarden,

Winterizing still in effect.
Trimming back peppers slowly..
Getting them all ready for the garage shuffle for the next short while.
Still prepping the basement grow area for the new tennants. (pics to follow soon)

With all the cutting back, I thought about starting a winter project.
I decided to Bonchi (bonsai) my Giant Bhut Jolokia. (Thanks Scarletfire for the motivation! He mentioned doing this in another thread)
Here are a few pics of the process.
I moved it from a 1.5 gallon Airpot to an Airpot that's approx 2.5 liters..
What I did was when I moved my Trinidad Scorpion from a 3.4 gallon Airpot to a 1.5 gallon Airpot, I cut the 3.4 gallon into 3 smaller pots.
Very shallow. Hopefully conducive to bonchi.
We'll find out...

The white rock on top is perlite that I had left over.
Looks nice, but after 2 waterings it turned the color of dirt. I'll be replacing with some other type of cover rock eventually..
Anyway, worst case scenario, If the bonchi doesn't work out it'll be overwintered well with the other peppers..

Here's a pic of the kids all lined up to go into the garage tonight.
IMG_7961_zpsdcbf656a.jpg

Even though the season is closing up, there are still flowers to be pollinated.
Lunch break in RoninGarden.
