SASE/SASBE help

Ok, i've heard about SASE (self addressed stamped envelope) and SASBE (self addressed stamped bubble envelope). But i'm not sure how it works. Some questions:

1. I heard it's cheaper to use SASE but it may not be safe on the seeds because the machines that automate mail can damage them is that correct? I'm thinking i could make a 1.5 inch bubble wrap wallet to put seeds into, which can be placed into a regular SASE.

2. Now when we send a SASE, do we put a extra envelope with stamps and our address inside or just loose postage and a label with our address and the person donating seeds will just affix the new label over the envelope we sent?

3. For SASBE, how many loose stamps should we send? Do we also send a sticky label so the seed donator will afix my address label over theirs on the envelope? I have a 4x8 bubble envelopes i got from amazon.

That's all the questions i have so far!

Don't use SASE unless like you said you are including the 1.5in. bubble wrap. It's not good for the seeds.

Second, you can do it either way. Include a label to affix over the address or put a bubble envelope inside another envelope.

I always put 3 stamps on a bubble envelope though I have received many with just 2 and they seem to make it back ok. I just don't want to chance it over 44 cents.
 
Everyone has their own opions on this.

What I do for 1 or two packs of seeds is simply cut a strip of bubble wrap and tape the seed envelopes to that, wrap it in a piece of paper and put it in the envelope. The bubble wrap has enough cushion to keep the mail machines from crushing it, and it's not thick enough to have to be dealt with like a package. I have a room full of envelopes and stationary from my first business stationary order years ago, with almost everything being done via email now I likely have enough to last me through retirement and then some.

For more than a pack or two of seeds, I like bubble envelopes. However, they cost more, and depending on who you get at the post office you can pay different amounts. One guy at ours says 64 cents every time, the lady wants $1.71. $1.71 both ways plus the bubble envelope makes it cost 4 times what the regular envelope would if I get her. I don't know who assesses the postage due stuff, but I sometimes get the .64 bubble envelopes back with postage due. I should probably go complain about the inconsistency, but I'm lazy and it's not enough money to take the time.

I typically fold up an envelope ready to go and send it inside another envelope for a SASE. SASBE I either send a return label with it or I put a small bubble envelope ready to go inside a slightly larger manila envelope. Works either way.

I'll be interested to see what other opinions are.
 
I send a bubble envelope along with a label of my address and enough loose postage for the return trip. I also tape (not seal) the envelope.
 
To make things easier on the guy sending seeds I had my postal clerk weigh out my evelopes ahead of time and then put enough stamps on SASBE and threw it in a larger manilla envelope. Figured he would appreciate the extra effort to make things easier on him since he is doing us a favor in the first place. Besides I'm a cheap bastige and coins are heavy! :lol:
 
Like Muskymojo, I normally seal a bubble envelope with tape and put the same number of stamps to send it in the envelop with an address label. The idea is to make it easy on the person sending you something for free which they do not have to do. So think to yourself, "Self, if I were offering free seeds to people what would make it easiest on me to send it to them." Then do that.

Good point, I forgot to mention the tape. It can be a PIA trying to perform surgery on a sealed envelope so it can be sent back.
 
I just received my first 2 SASBEs back from the seed donators. I noticed that neither of them put a return address on the SASBE. Why is that? Is there a special reason for doing that? Thanks.

That way you can slap another label on it and use it again.
 
I think one big thing that we are overlooking here is please send the SASBE in a timely fashion. It's supposed to be easy to give these away!
