SKULLBIKERS Fun with peppers in 2021 GLOG

And so it begins, another year of growing some peppers. This will be a sort of continuation of last year

as several of those plants are still going(and many got whacked and ended up on the burn pile).

Anyway, I have 3 trays of peppers sown and many have germinated already(mostly annums). I wanted to compare several different jalapeños for taste in real time. This tray is all jalapeños, ten types from 7 different vendors. The seeds in block 3 are from 2014.

Another tray with annums at each end and mostly rocotos in the middle(and they're taking their sweet time).

Growing pretzel peppers, eh [emoji16][emoji23][emoji106].
Thanks again for the mega seed shipment [emoji16][emoji106][emoji4].

I scrolled back thru all of the pics looking really close for a pretzel, reading the tags, looking at the cups and then I realized what you were talking about

A couple of the young plants from the F2 Poblano X Scarletts Chili seed from PollenNut's cross. Some variegation starting to appear, although my main concern is that the pods off of these have as good a flavor as the F1's had.

Good looking plants SB.  Im like you and hoping that the pod's are good.  The plant that I have with the variegation isn't doing as well as those without.
I have small pods already on one of them.  I'll have to post some updated pics.

We'll have to see how our pods compare later on. The F1 pods tasted really good. Well, I suppose we'll know in a few months!

I also have some seeds that I would like to sprout from 2014...did soak or prep them before you planted them?

I did not soak or prep them and they did take a week longer to germinate than the "fresh" seeds. Almost anyone you communicate with would have a different method to germinate their seeds, I can't even count how many different methods I've tried.
I currently start out by pretty well soaking my cells in ZERO water with the seed starting medium in them in the tray overnight. Then I remove the excess water from the tray, lay my seeds on top of the medium, and cover them with 1/4" of loose medium and then mist that enough to dampen it. Then onto the heat mat, using a thermostat set at 85°f, with the probe mid-depth in the medium of a cell near the center of the tray. And lastly put the humidity dome on and wait.
I think my start in the wet medium is similar to soaking them to soften the seed coat. Anyway, it currently works for me(until I try something else).

So awesome. I'll look into ZERO water. Just love hearing about the different ways that may be successful

Thanks for sharing.
