Hmmm. Never heard of this beer Celeste. Does it have alcohol in it?
It most certainly does, Jay. sorghum is one of the things molasses can be made from. its a seed plant, similar to, I think, broom corn. It may be a new world thing. Those old world grains, that I guess oribginated in Mesopotamia and Europe, wheat, barley and rye all contain the protein gluten to which I have an intolerance. New world grains that natives used to make breads and such dont have this protein, and are becoming very popular substitutes.
Before I knew I was intolerant, I was a brewer myself, became quite the beer snob. so, lets see, where would I classifiy this? Its medium bodied, sweeter than a pilsner, not as heavy as a scotch ale- like a bock in body but not that rich a flavor. Pleasantly hopped, but like you'd expect from a large commercial brewery, not as flowery or complex as you'd get from a microbrewery. Some of the microbreweries were doing them too, there was a really delicious one that was called Dragon's gold, when the economy crashed it disappeared right out of the stores. I havent been to the big liquor store yet, so I might find it still.
The local upstart brewery, Schlafly,(mirobrewery in the shadow of the macro brewery, Anheuser Busch) has one on tap but doesnt bottle it. I mostly cant afford to hang out in their brewery/restaurant/pub.
And its been another long day, and I am kid free and off work for a week.....WOOHOO!... so yes, I'm have another. might have seconds. In a coupla days, I will be reminded why I dont do this regularly- I'm a light weight. Its a week off. though, and I aint leaving town.
