So I am buying a new truck...

Yes. GM is the most imported truck on the market. Why do you think Detroit looks like this? Thanks, GM.
hey atleast the kids have room for street hockey... though the street surfaces are not terribly smooth.

out here in texas EVERYONE wants a truck. i think f150's average price is close to 40 grand? what with all the interior leather and nice engine packages etc.
most trucks are driven by regular folks, not trade people. my uncles wife spent like 4 grand on a new tranny and AC for her like... mid 1990s gmc truck.

is it the same in PA? i know you do foundry shit and probably need a truck to haul what ever... but do you find a similar truck culture in PA?

i dont get it to be honest. unless you are going to actually haul shit, just get a good SUV. suspension is better and the parts are cheaper. if you get a decent motor you can still tow a bit of a trailer, just not anything crazy.

Well, okay. I bought my F-250 6.7 diesel to pull the 5th wheel. But is is parked most of the time at the campground so really, I drive an expensive truck to haul groceries. I'm okay with that.

I bought my Ford F-150 to drive to the ferry to get to my office job.

Jay hit on all the reasons for a pickup.  Hunting…check, assorted shit…check, kids(kid in my case)…check.   Love my 2009 that I bought new and just regret not getting one earlier.

but... dont you guys get pissed when you go to buy new massive brake rotors... massive tires, batteries? gallons of oil?... fucking trannies for trucks cost a SHIT load.... and junkyard parts for trucks can be expensive too because they are in huge demand.
diesels are even worse.

So far it has been pretty good. I do not drive much. 48k miles on a 2009. The original tires just got changed last year. Original battery, trannie and I think I have just had the front brakes done. I just do not remember. I would assume it would be worse if I used it as a work truck instead of a car.

But if you are 5 miles from Pookie, you can't  have a gun, realistically. So, back to hauling groceries.

But at 100K for tires and 110K for brakes makes it a bit easier on the wallet if you aren't hauling much. Oil changes suck, but they aren't too bad if you do them yourself.

wow i think i drive more than that, and i live like 6 miles from work.

yea ok. that sounds reasonable. you sound retired or something like that?

idk maby im just neurotic about on going costs like that. i would love a truck myself... for hauling sheet goods, its just impossible to justify even if i had the cash in hand.

i haul plywood/drywall what? 2-3 times a year? i can rent a nice duelly with one of those aluminum beds that has the fold down sides for like 60 bucks? i think id do better with a trailer actually.

That is just from 8-5 during the week. I am somewhat embarrassed, but right now I have 4 bags of charcoal in the backseat of my cab and 5 2 cubic yard bags of bumper crop potting soil in my bed. The groceries go on top of that stuff.

err wait i mixed up you and jeff H. obiviously you are not retired... you just said as much.
No not retired but drive under 10 miles on a workday. I have a 36 gallon gas tank and fill up once a month.

A few days at work to think about things has me considering another option.  Still moving forward with trying to get financing the new one, but also found a three year old used one that might be more friendly on the budget.  Bonus, it only has 19K miles.

I want the new one bad, but it would be fiscally smarter to wait two years until my munchkin is in school and I drop the $1000 a month I am paying for his daycare/preschool.

absolutly nothing wrong with a short sale used car like that. alot of financial experts claim that it can be the best bang for the buck.

there is usually an inflection point with car depreciation. after a few years it starts slowing down. you ideally want to buy right at that inflection point.

Low miles on a truck can mean it was used as a work truck not transportation/highway miles so be sure to check out the suspension/drivetrain etc. However looks like it was not, looks good, so you may have scored with a low mile transportation truck.

thats actually a very good point... had not though about that.

dont know shit about cars/trucks tbh, but maby you could drain off a bit of tranny fluid, and fluid from the rear diff to look for bad stuff?

if it was 4wd id look at the transfer box too... but i think thats sharing fluid from the transmission so idk if fluid would tell you anything at all.
