So I bought..........

Have already been dreading the thought of planting them all out. The cost of pots would be prohibitive & i'd need to hire a rotary hoe for a day or 2 to get through the clayee soil......then i found this link

lookout - i've got a plan

They would be awesome. Breathability, drainability, self compostabilty. All kinds of bilities!

 i'm whacked

I really hope it warms up here too very soon. Plants are aching for it!
Got a foot tall mexican tomato already though so it's pointing towards a killer season.

It is indeed a good thing to have you back Bent!

300 Douglah plants eh? Yep you're back alright. Best of luck to you bro, really looking forward to watching your season.

Well I think I got the seeds in at the right time. Last 3 days have been drizzling with rain & when the sun breaks through its nice & warm. If seeds can't sprout in this I think I'll give the game away :D

On another note: the hay bale raised beds are off the drawing board. Cheapest I could find was $14 each & thats without trucking them here, so new plan is to rotary hoe down about 1/2 M (about where the clay starts) then use some kind of edging up 1/2 M. Will also half the amount of soil i need to get. Haven't priced up the edging yet...will check out Bunnings next time I'm there

Are there any demo yards around? Could check them out for edging or did it all float down the river ?

Nothing much around here Nova, but good thought. It took Bunnings 4 months to re-open so that gives you an idea of what happened.

Today theres a couple of green shoots popping up - I'm not sure if they're chillis yet (have been fooled before by grass/weed seeds getting in, but thats what you get for sprouting outdoors)

Weather has been perfect with intermittent light drizzle & warm sunshine. I tried to take a pic but too small & blurry :woohoo:

3 hours later & i can say theres 5 evil little douglahs popped up. Only 295 to go :D

At dusk its 7 plants above the ground after 8 days of outdoors germination :O

I remember that first seed took 3 weeks!!

Only points to one thing - Neil from thehippyseedcompany is an expert seed handler

Sweet 300 plants is awesome.

Funnily enough I am expecting my douglahs from thsc in the mail tomorrow. Can't wait.

Will be following your grow with interest. Good luck!
