Stickman's 2012 Gochu Pepper Glog

Well, here we go... Started about 35 Korean Gochu Peppers and a few Korean salad peppers, jalapenos and orange habs. All are mostly up today but the habs. I started them early last week in my heated grow tent down in my cellar on top of a grow mat, but didn't have the thermostat quite dialed in. When I left it it was 70 degrees f. in the tent. When I checked again the next morning it was 85 degrees, and I was afraid I'd cooked the seeds, so I moved them onto my kitchen windowsill on the grow mat and awaited developments. Looking much better now. I'll give the Habs until the weekend to pop, then move the flat down to the grow tent.

Your plants are gonna be able to roll with those punches no problem! I don't see any standing water around your pepper plants, so you should be good to go! They are going to have a nice little growth spurt if you can get some nice sun/warm temps for a few days!
Hi Shane, I think you're right.
The soil is so sandy here that standing water is never a problem unless the ground is frozen. Last fall we got hammered with rain in September during hurricane season. Lots of flash flooding and ponding on the roads but an hour after it stopped raining our garden was free of standing water.

We usually only make kimchi and zucchini pancakes,
Sounded so good I had them for lunch today. Love the way they're crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Break off a piece and dip in sauce... Yeah Baby!
Too busy working in the garden this weekend to fire up the grill. Gotta do it this weekend, and I'm in the mood for Beef ribs. Kalbi Kui here we come.

Hey Man great Glog ! I will be utilizing a Hoop house this fall/winter. I will add Korean Seed to my late summer grow list. I have Bulgarian Carrot peppers as they put out till late Nov. Its always nice to see other THP folks with a garden as well !

Hi Dan, Thanks for stopping by. I planted some Bulgarian Carrot in March, but didn't have enough room for them, so I gave them to a neighbor. I can at least watch them growing in the plot next to mine. Nice to know they can take a little cold... I'll pass that on. PM me if you need some Korean seed, or you can find it with Evergreen Seed Company. They're a Yahoo affiliate, but I've been getting seed from them for the last three years with no problems. Always good germination and they grow true.
I've had a garden ever since I was in the army... I shared a house on Tejone St in Colorado Springs with a guy from my outfit in the late seventies. It had a 15x20 foot fenced in yard that I planted a few veggies in... It seems I need three times that much space now even though I cultivate intensively!
Good luck with the hoophouse! Cheers

Saw some beef short ribs at a good price, and I'm batchin' it tonight... Time for Butterflied Beef Short Ribs! (Kalbi Kui)

Start with a pound and a half of short ribs, butterfly them out, wash well in cold water, pat dry and make shallow diagonal cuts in the surface of both sides of the meat.
Make a marinade of: a quarter cup of soy sauce
a quarter cup of rice wine or Vermouth
half an Asian Pear or two tablespoons Lemon juice
three cloves of Garlic, crushed and finely chopped
two scallions, white and light green parts, finely chopped (save the green tops for garnish)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon toasted Sesame oil
1 tablespoon toasted Sesame seeds
Pinch of salt
Pinch of ground Pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Everything looks wonderful man!!!! Your peppers are so far ahead of mine it isn't funny. That grow tent you put up worked wonders for you getting your plants out early.
