Stickman's 2014 Glog- That's all folks!

Hi All,
I've got Manzanos sprouted and my Bhuts, Lotah Bih and Donne Sali seeds planted so it looks like time to leave 2103 behind and begin to concentrate on 2014. Last year I started some of my late-season varieties right after New Year's Day, but our season was too short to bring the pods to full ripeness so this year I started 2-3 weeks earlier.

There are many more varieties yet to plant in the proper turn, and I have 4 overwintered pepper plants from 2013 that I'll report on later. Have a great weekend all!

Shoot, I wish! :P

The Piri Piri ended up dropping one of the flowers, but a few stuck... the first pod for this plant... and now that it's under the low row cover, they're all sticking. It's kinda funny how the flowers point downwards and the pods point up.

The green-pheno Pimenta Lisa is still tiny, but threw out a blossom today... I'll say it's game!

Some pics for Stefan of the tomatoes he sent seeds for from the Netherlands...

PeriPeri is looking happy buddy. Nice and bushy. Leaves are very light green. These should become dark green as time goes on. Should grow to about 1m/1,2m in height. Getting über excited for you here lol I see one is Peri Peri and the other is Piri Piri.. is it the same plant? It looks like it might be two different plants... I swear by seaweed pellets... they just make plants go ape... a good week after feeding them plants just rocket :)

loving the chillies, Rick. irrigation also im loving.
and then theres the  tomatoes!
i have a japanese variety growing (i forget the kanji for it) and a mini yellow. i think i need more though! decent tomatoes cost a buck each here, and everyone whos every tried knows home grown is the best/most flavourful!

Thanks for the good vibe guys!

Both are from your seeds Lourens... just a senior moment as regards spelling... lol! We don't have the same seaweed pellets over here, but I'm using a blend of seaweed extract and fish emulsion together with sugar beet molasses to water in every couple of weeks until the plants get bigger. Then I'll switch over to "Mor-Bloom" and molasses.

Things are looking good Stickman! Interesting tomato varieties as well.

I have Stefan (meatfreak) to thank Ronan... I always try to grow new things every year so it's not the same old-same old, and his heirloom varieties are what's new this year.

Would that be Momotaro tomatoes? I have a Japanese friend whose eyes really lit up when she saw I could get seeds for them here in the States.

I'm not sure why, but I posted 10 pics on my glog yesterday and an hour later they disappeared... oh well... try again.

Thais and Pequin types have all forked and at least started to blossom... The Dilley Street Tamwork I posted pics of on Friday, but here are the rest.

Man, I'd love to be able to get seweed pellets like alfalfa,  Lucky dog.
Plants are looking great; taking hold quite well, Rick.
I'm trying the Cosolutos for the first time this year. It has a very tomato-y resume.

Oh we can get 'em, but some are intended for marine fish food, and they charge too much to use as large-scale fertilizer. http://www.hikariusa.com/diets/seaweedextreme/

This comes from a company in Florida, and is intended for agricultural use... http://www.monroeworks.com/kelp-meal-fertilizer/granular-kelp-meal-fertilizer.htm at roughly $20 for a 5 pound bucket, which is enough to prep 150 square feet of garden space, I may get some to try next year. I'm at the limit of my budget this year.

Cool that you're growing the Costolutos also... I'm hearing mostly good things about them too, so I was glad to give them a try. If I like them well enough, I'll grow them exclusively and save the seeds for future plantings.
     Cheers!

Nice updates Rick!

Glad to see the gals taking hold and moving forward!

You're doing great with the challenges your climate hands you!

Keep it green buddy!

Thanks guys. :)

We had a couple of days in the upper 80s and the chiles are showing it. BOCs, Guwahati Bhuts and the odd Naga King are still dropping flowers, but the prime Naga King is beginning to set pods.
SANY1444_zps75912300.jpg

The MoAs are also dropping flowers, but there's a lot of them, so when it likes conditions better, they should start sticking. The Butch T. is starting to bud out too...
SANY1446_zps40914961.jpg

... and the OW Douglah's new leaves continue to slowly grow out.
SANY1445_zps7b0ca5cd.jpg

For the Fruts, I'm beginning to see flower buds on the Donne Sali, but not yet on the Lotah Bih. The Piri Piri you've seen already.

The Dedo de Moca has definitely caught, and there are a couple of new pods on it.
SANY1442_zps852bea9f.jpg

The rest are all Annuums, and they're doing pretty well...

Pods are sticking on the Dilley Street Tamwork
SANY1443_zpsbe62b434.jpg

Side branching on the Texas Pequin is just exploding, and it's beginning to set some flower buds.
SANY1431-Copy_zps93a4d399.jpg

Takanotsume should start flowering tomorrow. Side branching here is also incredible!
SANY1426-Copy_zpsd1a2dc39.jpg

On the subject of avoided tragedies... this is my only Jalapeno Ciclon... apparently a cutworm tried like anything to cut through the stem, but it ended up being too tough and it moved on.
SANY1430-Copy_zpsc5c938e1.jpg

Poblanos are also growing very well and beginning to flower.
SANY1429-Copy_zps9600f563.jpg

Sang Cho from BootsieB has doubled in size in the last week,
SANY1433_zps5b1aeb33.jpg

... and that's 10. More for a bump.

Plants look flawless Rick. I love how neat your garden plot is. How many pods do you normally get out of a poblano plant? Annuums are always a bit touchy for me... I left the first couple pods on too long and really reduced the overall yield. Pulling a couple rounds of unripe pods really makes 'em produce for me.

My MoA's have been dropping about half their buds too. Also just realized they were a little thirsty today. May hit them with some epsom salt and fish juice tomorrow to see if I can perk 'em up, but I hate to do that after fruits set.
