Support Our THP Military Members

Whats up everyone! I just wanted to pop my head in when I had a bit of down time and thank everyone for all the support that we have been receiving since I got into country. This deployment has been a long one so far, and I have about 4 or so months to go, but the support that we have got from friends, family, and especially you guys here has helped to pass the time tremendously. You see, whenever we feel like time is moving too slowly, I talk one of the guys that I work with into eating a spoon full of Jamie's powder, Pure Evil, or some other thing that will give us a good show for a while. Earlier in the deployment it was much easier to talk them into it, now just about everyone has been 'burned', and we have to make it a bit more worthwile... :)

But every time we go to chow, a bottle of sauce or bag of powder, OR BOTH, come with us. RM and all the people here have really outdone themselves and each package that we get is a new adventrure all in itself.

Thanks again guys, it makes a ton of difference!

So it is about 1 in the morning here, and a few guys are sitting around about to watch the football game. I decided now was a better time than ever to break out the Pure Evil...:rofl;

One guy is hovering over the trash can saying "why would anyone eat this??", another has a pile of tissues on his desk and it looks like he just lost his dog, and a few others just keep pacing and asking why it isnt going away...

I am just sitting back with a mouth on fire laughing my head off. Figured you would like to know the care packages are getting great use!

mgold, that's great! I'm glad they manned up to try it. They guy ove the trash can reminds me of when my son tasted Pure Evil snickerdoodles.
"Pure Evil cookies? Seriously?!? What is wrong with you people??!?"

Matt is home now, just got this

Are you freaking kidding me?? You guys got me plants?!? You have no idea how thankful I am! This is rediculous. They are going in the ground tomorrow morning!

There is also a box on the counter for me that I will open in a bit. Gonna get a shower and some food first.

Jess took a video, I thought that I was just going to see the dogs in the back yard like I always do. NOPE. LOL!

I wanted to share something I saw on FB today.  I figured this is as good of a place as any.

A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside. “Your son is here,” she said to the old man. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient’s eyes opened.

Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he... dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man’s limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.

The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man’s hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile. He refused.

Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients. Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.

Along towards dawn, the old man died. The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited.

Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her, “Who was that man?” he asked.

The nurse was startled, “He was your father,” she answered.

“No, he wasn’t,” the Marine replied. “I never saw him before in my life.”

“Then why didn’t you say something when I took you to him?”

“I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn’t here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed. I came here tonight to find a Mr. William Grey. His Son was killed in Iraq today, and I was sent to inform him. What was this Gentleman’s Name? “

The nurse with tears in her eyes answered, “Mr. William Grey………”

The next time someone needs you … just be there.
