The Angry Lizard

Hello Everyone!

Long time chili pepper lover just getting back into growing. It's been about 5 years since I've last grown peppers from nursery bought plants. This year I've gotten back into growing chilis, although from now on it's from seed.

Earlier this year I started Caribbean Red Habs, Orange Habs, Anaheim and Sandia from seed. I got a late start and I could only get 3/14 Sandias to germinate and none of the others (mostly my inexperience and not the seed). Boy are those three Sandias producing though. I've got all three in one 5-gallon pot and have at least 50 pods with more to come.

I've been reading up on germination methods on this site for months so I'm hoping to have a lot more success this coming year.

The coming year's grow list:

c. annuum:

Anaheim
Sandia
Yellow Hungarian Wax
Orange Thai Hot Pepper

c. chinense:

Caribbean Red Habanero
Chocolate Habanero
Orange Habanero
Fatali
7 Pot/Pod
Big Sun Habanero
Orange Scotch Bonnet

c. pubescens:

Orange Manzano

For chilis I grow using 5 gallon pots and everything else raised bed. My 5 gallon pots usually contain 3 1/3 gallons pro mix bx, 1 gallon composted cow manure and 1/2 gallon perlite. I throw in about 2 cups garden-tone or tomato-tone (depends on what's available) and water 2 to 3 times a week depending on heat, humidity and size of plant (it gets hot and humid here in Southern Illinois). I add ferts every other week to my pots (about 2 tablespoons of garden-tone or tomato-tone).

I hope to contribute more and get to know some of you better!

Here's to a great grow season next year!

Sounds like you've got a head start coming to the site! I'd never grown anything besides tomatoes when I got here, I'm figuring it out now though!!

Hi!
Welcome from Oz.
Just how angry are you anyway?

Like angry enough to just be motivated?
or like really really angry because the tax lizard has just visited and took all your eggs?

Welcome from oz! What's the go with the Sandia? Never heard of that before.

Thanks for the welcome! Nu-Mex Sandia is an Anaheim hybrid. Looks just like it except it matures to a red and is slightly hotter. The pepper gets hotter the more red it gets. I usually pick them green. The last batch was about the same heat as a mild jalapeno. I use them pretty much for the same things I'd use an Anaheim for: chili relleno, mild salsas, stuff them with chicken, etc.

Ahh, Australia, the home of Wicked Weasel swimsuits!

Have you ever convinced someone who thinks jalapenos are hot to eat a habanero? That angry! Angry enough to motivate myself to form a lizard posse and go after that tax lizard.

Thanks for the welcome!

Seriously though, jalapenos are pretty tame. I need a pepper that slaps me in the face and expects me to say thank you in the morning.
