THP PC builders Unite!!!

Awesome. Still can't get a Windows number on my build. "Lacking necessary devices" or some kind of whatnot. I don't have a DVD/ whateve player currently hooked up to the system. DVD ROM on USB, but Windblows doesn't understand that.

Sweet. I thought you were going for a Lian Li case. Do you have most of this build already?

I know you know this, but run your programs off the Caviar Black drive. That's what I'm doing. And the WD red drive is set up for NAS (for down the road... I'm sure), but good choice... gives you that option.

Gonna cycle some parts from my Lian Li, such as the PSU, monitor, sound card, mouse, and keyboard.

I considered the new and the outgoing (soon to be discontinued) Lian Li cases and saw the only plus was the hot-swap SATA hard drive bays. Considering I never open my case to swap out drives, and I don't do RAID at all, I went with the Corsair. On the previous posts recommending the ASUS mobo, I am now shifting to my first AMD processor. Still keeping with NVidia for the new graphics card, though.

New SSD, and you followed my thinking on the Black and Red WD drives. Though I'll likely just use the Red as a backup target drive, and not for live data reads.

Cheers!

Curious as to what your current system is. Can't wait to see this upgrade build.

And what happens to the current one? Swapping parts from an older machine to keep it running?

Bear,
I have "pulled the trigger" on this build. It'll be arriving shortly. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/yNt3

Cordially,
Wakko
nice build! Nvidia is much better on the video cards in my eyes. you can get that amd procesor OC really high with the water cooler and that 990FX mobo, the Bios is super easy to navigate!

i used that website and could not find the PSU i got but here is the rest of my build
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

My current build is the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 at 2.4 GHz, 6GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 RAM, EVGA NVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti, and an Intel DP35DP mobo in the Lian Li PC-V1000b case. I've got a 128 GB Corsair Force 3 SSD, and various 1 TB and 750 GB harddrives.

I'm pulling the 1000 Watt modular Antec PSU out of this and will use it in the new build, unless I run into issues.

I've got spare PSU's from other servers I can put into this if the Antec can move into the new Corsair case.

Photos to come.

@ Spongey - Your link directs to the specific site, but not your build. There should be a "permalink" that you can copy/paste in here that will show us. It's directly above your build on the left-hand side.

@ TLM - the rule on THP goes... "if there's no pictures, didn't happen." Looking forward to seeing this build.

Nice build Spongey. I'd love to see a pic of the innards with that Noctua cooler. Those things are massive. I just wish they came in all black.

I found your Windows 7 Pro N, as well as my Windows 8 Enterprise N, don't come with Windows Media Players, and that's precisely why the Windows Experience Index won't complete.

Get yours here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16546

Yup, that was it. Scored a 7.5 because of the graphics card.

Processor: 7.7
Memory: 7.8
Graphics and Gaming graphics were both 7.5.
Primary hard disk: 7.9

mine was 7.6 and i OC the GPU, then when i got the 2nd card put it in SLI BAM 7.8 my buddies rig with the EVGA GTX 680 FTW came in at 7.9!

My initial score was on default settings. The only thing I feel comfortable OCing right now is the GPU. I've found the numbers where it is stable, and I've toned them down a bit. If I OC the GPU +300MHz, and OC the 2GB of vid RAM +275MHz, I get a score of 7.6.

Come on TLM, I know you have pics of your new build. Let's see some!

the CPU was easier to OC than the GPU. got the CPU from 3.6 to 4.6 stable but toned it back to 4.3 and its been there for 2 months
