Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

"TripPaul white" is a name I had thought of (said as in triple white).
Triple meaning (early it was developed across 3 countries Australia/USA/New Zealand), 3 distinct colours (Green, Purple, White) both parent plants had 3 word names,
and the name has my ego :) and Paul's name etched into it as the two original growers/developers (Paul has done all the work from f3 on to be honest and if it wasn't for him they would still likely be at f3-f4 stage)
Its just an idea for a name at this stage ...

Awesome to see all of these grows from around the world taking off. (And Paul's pictures of his going round the world as well :) ) Awesome to see pods finally taking shape.
Some questions I need to answer:
Pollen from the PDN (male) was used to pollinate a BMJ (female) flower with its male parts removed to ensure it didn't self pollinate.
The PDN father was a prolific pod producer (even in 30+C heat) , Dark Purple and tall and lanky (much as Devv has seen coming through on his growth habit) it was also one of 2 plants (out of 75) that didn't get broadmite damage that season.
The Bonda Ma Jacques mother was a pale green girl in leaf with a medium growth habit but absolutely beautiful flavoured deep yellow pods. She also was sturdy and survived multiple broad mite attacks to keep podding later in the season.
Thank you very much for the history. I've never grown a BMJ, but I did grow a lanky PDN last year (I made a cross with it, myself: PDN x 7 Pot Caramel). I love the final color of the white. Great job on strain selection! My plants should start budding soon (I'm behind) and I'll get some isolation going on for F7 seeds. Are you gonna grow it next year, Trippa?

No problems at all ... I haven't been around the forums properly for a long while so thought I would touch base with things.
I do plan on getting some started soon but we are just heading into winter now so will need to make sure I have plans on place to keep the plants happy for at least 4 months until planting out in October/November .... Still a work in progress ... My other hobby/obsession (craft beer brewing) has taken precedent and financial input lately ... But I am almost fully upgraded in my set up there for now (I could spend on that for the rest of my days and still not be content [emoji23])
Hopefully I will get a decent run next summer at a few plants ... Have 4 plants going into there 2nd winter now which are just too good to let go .... Perfect for my climate.

Well things went sideways on my 6.

One one white looks great. The other 5 plants got burned or something.

They do not like the soil I put them in or I over ferted them before an out of town trip for work.

They are the only plants out of 30+ showing this problem.

I will get pics but I want to just pull them.

What a shame.

Damn man really sorry to hear that....you don't think you could nurse it back or just take some big clones off it?

Unless they are really dead they will bounce back ... Flush the soil with plain water a few times and see if you get new growth in a couple of weeks ... If you want to keep them ... Its a cruel game we play sometimes...

Not pulled yet but I am really disappointed in what were gorgeous plants are now barely hanging on.

Here's 2 of the worst...the other three look the same.

The one on the left is a purple. The one on the right is the only plant surviving and it's a white.

Very sad results from the beautiful luscious plants I started with.

I honestly think give them some time, fresh water and no more nutes and they will bounce back ... Make sure you only water from the bottom also to avoid any further sun scald

What Tristen said! Those are totally savable, I know how it goes-us gardeners have so much love blood sweat tears and time involved it's easy to just feel like total failure has occurred; but even like Devv told me way back when I started-when I was ready to just throw in the towel with my plants, defeated, start over, etc: was to step back, take a breather, and just let em ride and not overlove em trying to save them and I have lots of good successes now on plants that otherwise felt toast to me at the time! Keep your head up buddy!
Regards
-Tristan

What kind of beers are you doing and how long you been in that hobby game?

I have been home brewing since about 2000 (not continuous a couple of years hiatus here and there) but only the kits .... Started all grain about 4 years ago ... Slowly worked my way into kegging as of last week (haven't actually had a beer poured off my kegerator as yet).
Mainly IPAs (Red, NZ, West coast and white and about to do a New England IPA), have done a few stouts, Pale ales and a couple of wheats.. All my own recipes I have yet to do a clone beer or pack.
Part of a barrel club as well where we all put 20-30 litres of wort of an agreed recipe into a barrel to age ...so far we have done a Belgium quad and an imperial porter.
One of my beers was brewed and released commercially last year under a local label, so that was a box ticked. Still a few ticks in boxes to go.

Hey, Tristen! Good to hear from you, and thanks for
the information. Sounds like pretty good genetics!

Were you able to grow some F6 this season? Youre
heading into winter now so I hope you were able to
harvest some pods...

Sooo my first pod on my PDNxBonda F6 White appears to have lobes?
I will update as the plant matures

The early pods on my plants sometimes look like
that. Once the plants get rollin the pods should attain
their mature shape. On the other hand maybe its a
cool variation of some kind!

I agree. That would be the least one could do.

Good advice from a veteran. Capsicum species are very resilient
and respond well to some TLC!
