Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

The recent hot spell didn't seem to phase the 'White Lightening'
plants at all.  I gave them plenty of water, and they just kept on
setting pods throughout.  Some great phenotypes showing up,
and evidence of ripening becoming more common:

Great weather has really kicked the 'White Lightening'
pods up a notch - some nice, plump three-finger pods
on the plants. Ripening is accelerating, as well.

Interesting sporadic globe-shaped phenotype appearing
here and there. I may pursue that line of inquiry in the future :

Love the light purple stage of ripening!

I wonder where the 'globe' pheno stemmed from ... Certainly not from either of the parent plants ...

G'day, Tristen!

Good question! It could have been a sporadic cross. They were
close to BJ hybrid, 7 Pot Burgundy, and one other; but, none with
that phenotype.

Maybe a sporadic mutation; there are very few larger ones, and
some runty ones, which were always part of the early pods. I
likened them to little peruvian White Habs - like little bullets.

Could be caused by some virus that seems otherwise benign,
and affects a small percentage of pods, maybe?

Whatever the case they are hot like the 'Bullet Habs'!

I see only a small sampling of these pods represented,
although evenly spread among the four plants. Here are
some pods I pulled from the F5-3 plant:

Great to see the weather back to norm and pods a happening !
Gracias, Frank! Tristen's cross has been loving the weather lately,
although they sailed through the 100+ degree days with nary a
leaf wilt.  Very durable specimens for sure!  The F5-3 and F5-4
plants in the #3 small pots are ripening up at a fast clip; the F5-1
is a little behind them, and the  F5-2 (both in the big pots) are is
just starting.  Will try for some pix today - things are happing at
a quicker pace for them.

Looks like there should be some great seed pods and plenty of seed
for anyone who wants to grow them for Tristen.

The Pimente de Neyde x Bonda Ma Jacques by Tristen aka Trippa
is so beautiful, you could say it was an ornamental!  A bed of these
mixed with Chili Costa Ricas would be stunning!!

I never get tired of looking at these plants. There are some nice, white
pods developing among the rapidly ripening pods:

Sorry about the crazy formatting.  This editor can be somewhat inflexible at times!

The F5-3 and F5-4 are changing daily:

Some hefty pods this season:

The pods go through beautiful  shades of purple as they ripen:

Hard to be patient while these 'White Lightening' do their thing

Wow! Beautiful plant, Paul! That thing is LOADED!
Hey, Mike- the PDN x Bonda Na Jacques has been one of the
bright spots in this season's grow. It amazes me how well the
plants in the #3 nursery pots have done.

Hope all is well in your neighborhood, buddy...

Thanks, Sim.  Can't take credit for what Mother Nature does,
but it is fun to watch!

Kudos to Tristen for producing an outstanding cross.

Thanks, Sim; the contrast between the pods
and foliage looks great in the garden.

  Cheers, mate!

Breathtaking. I love this variety. Great name, too!! I can't tell you how cool I think this is. Beautiful, firm pods that probably last a decent amount of time...unlike thin walled peppers. I love it! Fantastic work!!!

Thanks, Adam.  Definitely will be some seeds with your name on
them if you would like to grow it out for Tristen next year   :D

Oh wow! I would be honored to grow that out. Thank you very much! It's going to make a great addition to my already awesome (and huge) growlist for next year. Thanks again!
