Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

Have put F5-3 and F5-4 into 2.5-2.75 gallon pots.
This will be their final home for the season.  I plan
on putting them in the greenhouse or indoors under
lights to extend the season for these late starters, due
to clipping and rooting process.

Those are some of the best looking plants I've ever seen. Very uniform and quite stunning. Should look to enter them in a local beauty pageant haha.
Thanks, Ryan - credit to Tristen's crossing skills!
They will just get better in the summer sun
Any particular reason for the small pots other than they are late starters?
Mainly for ease of moving around, and to
limit their size a little.  They will be a handful
as it is.

The pod on the F5-1 is starting to change color.
There are other small pods forming, as well:

Awesome Paul!! They are certainly looking the goods!
Is the pod looking fairly close to previous years in your opinion or is it too early to tell? ( especially as it likely has early season pod syndrome [emoji6] )

The pod on F5-1  is following the expected pattern, so far
(Gradual change to ivory/yellow then to ivory/white.)  It's a
decent sized pod for the first to set, half size of mature
summer pods, maybe a little less, so not a horrible case
of ESPS    :D   but a sign of what, hopefully, is to come.

The cross is very interesting!  Thanks, Jo  :welcome:  to the THP forum!
You got some nice looking plants and pots as well!
How hot are they?
Trip hit the mark with this cross, alright

Being c. chinense, they are hot   :fireball:   At least as hot as a
Bonda Ma Jacques.  I'm not a great judge of heat
and/or flavors, unfortunately.  I like these in small
doses.  Makes a great powder, and as fresh pods, to
heat up chili and soups/stews.

Thanks for the kind words, Cadis.

I echo what others have said Paul, some of the best plants iv seen, lovely rich green foliage.
Pod is ripening up nicely. Superb colour. The pair of you have took this cross up a level. Well done and keep up your good work.

Thanks, Sim.   The two smaller F5s look nicer than
the first two larger ones which have been hammered
by the weather.  They will bounce back, I suppose.

Awesome stuff Paul! Looking very similar to last years pods?? Hope that weather turns for the better ASAP!

Yes, Tristen, basically the same color scheme.  I'm
betting on white, but who knows what's in store
for the F6?

As for the weather, it has been pretty
much all bad for growing.  Either cold, wet and rainy,
or super hot and windy.  Never seen a Spring like this
one; no happy mediums. I sure hope the summer
weather looks up, or it's going to be a long season.

Stunning plants, Paul.

I really like the final color. Here's to many more.

Great job!
It's getting there, Charles.  There are lots of tiny pods
on the F5-1 and F5-2, some of which are elongating
slowly - we need more sun and moderate temperatures!
Will try to grab a couple of pics today.

Cracking looking pod Paul and really like the shading of PDN can still be seen in the ripe pods. got the elongated look of both parents  willing you a load of real hot weather to see if they throw up any different markings . Good work. ;)

Thanks, Charles and Simmy!

The A+ mature pods should be about
twice that size and a bit more pointed.
The amount of purple shading varies.

Sorry that PhotoBucket is acting all fascist and money-grubbing.
They just decided to disallow third party hosting of pics to limit their
bandwidth.  they already have one of the most obtrusive ad structures
on the web for this type of site.  Just another reason go not use them.
So, some of the pics are missing. Don't know if I'll have time to repost
them or not.  I have some updates to post.
