Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

Here is a look at a sampling of pods from the F7 plants.
Some of these are a little overripe, but there are several
decent isolated seed pods in the group:

There are still a lot of decent early round pods on the F7-3 plant:

I am looking forward to seeing how the summer pods develop.

Very pungent cut-open pods. My nostrils were tingling
just opening them up and taking out the seeds:

Seeds kept in envelopes with silica gel and in a sealed jar:

Pungent, eh?

Wait til you grow one of Gary's Bonda Mahalas. I got some P Dreadie seeds a couple years ago that turned out a B Mahala cross. PHEW!! Had to open the windows for those!!

We officially stabilized the strain.

I am hoping that is becoming a reality, Aravind!

We should know for sure as results roll in this season!
Looking for nice, tall, rangy and vigorous growth habit
with nice, dark purple foliage, and copious branching.
I am really looking forward to seeing how the pods from all
the different grows turn out.

Keep those pics coming, my friends!

Fantastic! Job well done to everyone of You who is involved :D

Thanks! Definitely a team effort, J.H. This is the second
year of the more wide-spread <global> grow, so I am
looking for some great results from this seventh generation!

I actually grew his Yellow 7 x Bonda Man Jacques before
it was named Bonda Mahala, but did not have any more seeds.
I am stoked that Gary is hooking me up with some of those
and his Yellow NagaBrain.

Hey, Devv called it Paul's Purple in his glog.  I like it!  Even though you didn't do the original cross.  And maybe Paul's White, too?

At first. Tristen wanted to name it after an uncle
of his or someone like that. I like that idea, since
the violet and white colorations seem to be two
separate strains. Perhaps a convention like (name)
var. White Lightening, and (name) var. Violet something-
or-other.

That's one reason I'm calling the BJ hybrid Purple Thunder.
I'd love to have a White Lightening and Purple Thunder pair!

I wonder if it's possible that Tristen's cross has picked up a
BJ gene in my early stages of the development of his cross.

Hey Paul - it might get a bit confusing what with the Aji White Lighting Bolt.  You know how people drop parts of a name, next thing there is mass chaos in the pepper world!

Take care

Are these pods typical shape?  I only ask because I passed a plant on to a friend, who has asked me what shape the pods should be.  Her plant is flowering.  Mine haven't started yet.

So how would you describe the shape, in words?

They are, Mitzi. From time to time there will be a round
pod or some doubles, with decent pods ranging from
21/4 to 23/4 inches.

Also, long slender pods have not been unusual. The seeds
for my F7s in the #3 pots were long, slender pods about
3-31/4 inches long, and white.

There are lots of pictures of them in this thread from
the 2018 season.

You had some go yellow or am I color blind? Lol
That's right, Andy. Very few white pods so far.
The yellows are beautiful with the dark foliage.
Will have to wait and see what the summer brings.

And to see what kinds of pods show up in the
white segment of this year's grow.
