This year I think has just beena challenging year for gardeners with hot peppers..

Cept for AJ. His entire pepper garden is perfect.

I think he's an alien from Planet X.

He hovers his flying saucer over his yard with the lights on when storms hit.

I'm getting a little raiding party together....I can carry two of em......hehe :mouthonfire:

Nat,

You might want to read some of the more recent posts. AJ has had a few problems too, which he seems to have under control now.

Half in fun, most in jest.....His recent pics looked so good I had to say something.....hehe

I just went outside to let the pup out and checked my plants. If you stand close enough to the Fatalli you can hear it quietly
singing Yesterday with a small word change....
"suddenly,I'm not half the plant I used to beeeeeeeeeeeee"
 It should produce some fruits but it looks funny
a big hole in the middle :(

I leave a few of my computers on 24/7 (some of them are web servers anyway) and I keep NWS Radar loops with auto update on.

And when there is even a hint of a thunderstorm, severe or not I take my largest plants inside.

I lost one plant out the window which fell three stories, it's still alive but barely!

If the stem is bent, and split a little, tie the branch to other stronger ones hoisting it up with cotton string then coil cotton string around that part like you would make an electric magnet out of a nail.

Speaking of nails, I cut the head off one and used the long part under the coiling of cotton wire to give it some support, as that branch was pretty heavy.

I also used a straightened coat hanger that I bent at the top to make a 'V' shape that is padded and holds the stem above where it bent. The end of the hanger goes into the soil and holds it up in high winds just fine.

The plant is doing great and is loading up with fruit after having the two main stems bent in half and split on both sides.

Hope my ideas help you some, I hate when plants get messed up, mine or others.

Thanks Richard I have used some of those methods and the coat hanger 1 too.Its just weird that even with support its happened. Maybe a cat or something got into it who knows it was damaged before the storms came today.

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself. If they were properly supported I'd expect the smaller pots to fall over if the storm blew really hard rather than branches breaking off again and again...

exactly chiliac they had been thru heavy rains and winds before and were ok there really wasnt any strong winds prior
to todays storms so something doesnt add up My support system
may not be the best but some of my smaller plants with smaller
stems held up even the Fatalli after it was broken held up
thru the hail and wind. Neighborhood Sabattage???:lol:

I can imagine how bad that must have hurt.As bad as it has been for me,alot of farmers around this area have been hit too, plus the economy here in michigan is terrible so they are really gettin hurt. I've heard this has been a really bad year for
farmers around here.
I'm not 100% sure about that one. There's an old saying. Knee high by the 4th of July and that's referring to the corn crop. With all of the rain we had in June and July it was WAY past that on the 4th around here. It's been pretty dry around here the last few weeks, but I think that's normal for August here. The economy in this state definitely isn't good right now, but I think the farmers here have it far better than the ones in Iowa have had on the Mississippi.;):)

They probably are doing better than me,thats for sure :lol:
Probably.....It happens though and with our smaller crops as a hobby it doesn't take to much to be a disaster either.;):) It's not all that bad though. Your plants are still definitely healthy though.

Oddly enough, this is what citrus growers here in Australia do so that the fruit on a single tree all ripen at the same time! By opening up the middle of the tree, light can then get in to all the branches and fruit, creating an even ripening time. May be a good thing HPFF

How does Gunner go in the storms? Sits and chews his toys, or hide under the bed and pee on the closet?

RS

Thanks Ring Sting thats encouraging news.
About Gunner storms do not effect him at all
in the house or out doesnt seem to bother him
which is good because so a 20 gauge will be
going off behind him :)

Hey, TL do you ever bowhunt too? If you do let me know. There's ALOT of time in the fall to deer hunt;). I want to get a dog in a few years to train as well, but I want to train one for blood trailing. Also, it's good if he doesn't get gunshy. I went Pheasant hunting with my friends dog several years ago and after I shot I think that dog was in the next county...LOL!! Definitely gunshy.

Been having a scan around the web and doesnt seem its just euro/America having this WONDERFUL weather but all around the world its the same..and al the posts say the same thing..how the wind is much stronger this year through the summer months..lost a few corn yesterday to

The weather here is quite okay for growing peppers. It's changing all the time and skipping from one extreme to another. It has rained for the first time in days this afternoon, but only for half an hour, so just enough that I don't have to water without fearing that the plants will get wet feet. We had sunny periods for a week or so until the next few rainy days arrived. My plants seem to like it! :)

last year every two or three days i'd put the sprinkler on my garden for a half hour or so, this year i haven't had to water once. everyday i get out into the garden to do some work it inevitably starts to piss down rain so i get soaked running back to the house, then half an hour or forty five minutes later its over and i go out again only to have the whole experience repeated. this october better be the warmest and sunniest on record if i'm gonna get anything out of this garden at all...

HotPeppersFlyFishing, you can stop by my garden if you need some super hots. lol. You're not that far away. Dale will probably have a pepper stand / storefront outside his home with his massive garden. I can't even imagine what his crop will be!

Here in southern Ohio, tobacco is knee-high by the 4th of July, field corn is normally shoulder high or taller!
