Nice looking baby pics. It looks like things are warming up a bit out your way and the seeds aren't fighting you so much before sprouting. Getting flowers on the OW plants must be feeling great! Keep on truckin'!

While I’ve not released ladybugs I’ve seen them on my plants often, this is one reason I don’t want to spray poisons besides the fact I eat dem pods, hehe. I’ve always germinated outside in eggs but always in spring or summer and normally very high germ rates. This is the first time I have low germ rates with the starts 1/1/13 and this will be the last time I do starts in the winter, makes no sense to me living down here … thanks for popping in and I hope you took no offense to my stand & opinion on your MoA glog thread. While I still feel the same, I hope we can coexist. How dem JA Habs doing for ya?

Rick great observation, I’ve never started stuff before in the winter and all you guys with your beautiful posts got me fired up and bam I tried to start seeds in January. I don’t think any more of them will hatch but still have the egg tray outside and water appropriately. I will re-evaluate what I want from them and start some in the spring or summer if needed. In a sense it allows more space for the SB MoA’s which I still have some seeds I didn’t start, I may possibly increase that crop … who knows, guess I’ll make that call in a few months. As always, thank you for popping in, respect mon!

Glad to see the new recruits getting their first sets of leaves. Always a nice sight. Sucks about the bugs, man, but it seems to go along with the grow. Glad to see some flowers and early pods, though!

Brent thanks for popping in, I get fresh pods year round and only run out when I gift too many to local family & friends. That said, the pods my plants produce are much bigger in spring and summer, winter ones tend to be on the small side. Bugs are a fact of life in south FL and if you have big trees they're impossible to eliminate completely, I got dem few bugs I saw yesterday but the war goes on ....

Errrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggg! I HATE aphids more than anything on this planet! Sooo annoying man. Kill em all my friend. I found that If I pick em off by hand and then trim that spot where they were and dispose far away from the plants it seems to help. I still catch one or two around my grow but check occasionally, sometimes occasionally daily for them. I also use Bonide as you know. I really knocks down the population fast. I think If I kept a regular spray schedule I would never see them around but I try not to unless needed. Good luck man and all the best to ya as I know how the battle is. Even growing organic seems to not help with them aphids. I now am on a mission as of right now to learn everything I can about how aphids live and populate. To kill one you must be one :rofl:

Maybe I'll be able to help someone besides myself as well. I stay tuned mon!

Thanks and share that knowledge with me too ... I just use the oil spray and soapy water, when I see dem I do the same as you and crush them with my finger. I also have ladybugs that frequent the plants and I believe they're doing their job. The funny thing about this time was that I didn't even see him till I came in and looked at the pictures, it was a mere chance that I captured the shot, needless to say I spent the next two hours spraying and hand intervention

BTW did you see the little ant not far off to the right, waiting to milk da cow mon, hehe. I hate ants too, the only thing they're good for here is to feed my lizards

My nephew stopped by earlier to bring me some Mackerel he caught in the FL Keys and smoked. He saw Jamie’s peppers laid out on the kitchen counter and said: “Whoa what you going to do with all those peppers?” I said pull up a chair, crack a cold one and we’ll see.

I started out with the littlest as they were starting to wrinkle. Pull the stems, chop in half and toss into a pan with good virgin olive oil to slightly infuse the oil while sautéing them.

Toss in some white pop corn seeds and cover up.

Cuban picante pop corn, seriously taste while tipping back a few cold ones. These peppers are not that hot, normally I'll use stronger peppers but you get the idea, do it with your favorite pepper if you like pop corn and it's a great snack ...

While we continued to enjoy a few cold ones and the picante pop corn, I pealed an onion and tossed it into da machine

Cut up the chocolate habaneros, some garlic, and ...

Sauté the onions, garlic and peppers in olive oil

Once cooked a few minutes, put them and left over garbanzos into the machine, purée dem all ...

Remove from machine, put into a bowl and whip by hand. Add additional spice if you wish, decorate with pepper or other edibles and put into tupperware to refrigerate for a few hours. The longer the better, this allows all the flavors to blend and the dip to harden some.

Go enjoy a cold beverage and stop by later … I’ll tell you what I did with the smoked fish and Jamie's peppers .... Thanks for stopping by ^_^

I'm here enjoying a cold one with no more TFM dip, cravin some smoked mackeral, wondering if I have popcorn in the cupboard, and thinkin popcorn makes up about a quarter of all movie theatre revenues and here you are givin out free recipes!

Greehouse with lady bugs, no need for poison. We have lots of bug farms here where you can buy cartons of lady bugs check it out online. There might be one near you, or a good garden center.

Here’s what the fish looked like from the smoker

I sautéed the Douglah with onions & garlic

Sorry for the second pic but I tasted a sliver of the not Douglah and fell in love. It tastes very similar to my favorite pepper the JA Hab. It has a nice fruity flavor, incredible fragrance and packs a nice punch of heat, I'd swear dem cousins ...

Ground up the smoked fish in da machine and placed into a prep bowl

Take approximately 1/3 of the smoked dry fish, put back into the machine with the pepper/onion/garlic sauté and purée it adding very little olive oil to make into a paste. Sorry I didn’t shoot this pic as my hands were dirty but if you look to the right side of the bowl you can see that you are making a fish pâté with that third of the ground fish. This is what makes the dip thicker without adding other cr*p and intensifies the fish taste.

Add one spoon of brown mustard, I use gray poupon and mayo to the right texture but not too much.Then blend the two different grinds of fish until you have the right consistency of a spread ...

Finish by adding a pepper and chill for a few hours before serving

I couldn’t wait, hehe

Edit: Bad start to a day

just in from my morning walk and the 3 MoA's still in eggs were all on the ground, possibly a coon came by last night. One egg is completely gone, I saved one not eaten and the last one while gone he left the dirt and the baby but it looks dehydrated and in shock. I quickly put it into dirt in a new egg but chances are slim that it will make it and the one that was untouched looks a bit in shock as well, this sucks ... I'll post up some pics of the disaster soon, I'm so bummed :/

Wow, those food shots look amazing! Maybe it is because I usually air pop, but it never occurred to me to pop some popcorn in infused oil. That is now on my list of things to try this summer.

Sucks about the racoon damage. Last year I had a racoon dig up all of my paprikas the night after I planted them outside. When I went outside one was laying on the interlock and the others were roots-up. All of them ended up making it, although it took a month or so to get past the shock and catch up to the other plants.

Stefan thanks for the nice comment, yea peppered pop corn is a staple around our house and been doing various different methods for a long time. I have one that’s jerk corn and one that’s blackened. Every now and then I’ll experiment with a few new ideas, although hot sauce spraying or after the fact infused salts work fine on air popped corn, you might want to give those a try. If you go the infused route, don't forget there's plenty of flavoring that can be done there, garlic, etc... ... While I’ve tasted air popped corn I don’t own a air popper but sprays, infused butter and other stuff work great ... If you go my route just remember use the best olive oil you can afford, it makes a huge difference IMHO. Thanks for commenting and enjoy da corn mon! Oh almost forgot, you can use blended powder and by that I mean mix other herbs into pepper powder rather than going for pure heat...

Yea, sucks, sorry to read your issue too ... Well I think he ate at least two eggs, even got the dirt and SB MoA on one. I was able to fix 2 of them in new egg, I’m almost sure one will die but I still have 3 in great shape growing. I will plant more come spring for sure, I have a great isolation spot already picked out when the girls get a little larger.

I have a trap and have done so with a few of the real bad ones in the past, our dog normally keeps them at bay but was sleeping inside last night. I bet it was a young one, they're typically stupid enough to eat dirt, lol ... and other issues and WG will be sleeping outside with his gun, hehe

I planned ahead and did not plant all the MoA seed I have yet. I held back some for a spring/summer planting

She don't look good, like a wild night out on the strip, hehe but back in fresh dirt and little drink help fight off dat hangover ...

Ouch! Sorry about the raccoon damage to the MoA Bonnets Ramon... If you don't mind sacrificing some pepper powder you might try sprinkling it on the top of the soil in the eggs to discourage them. That's how we kept the little bastiges out of our cornfield.

Rick, that sounds interesting, I haven’t ever tried anything on baby seedlings. I do keep a gallon jug of peppered water (any damaged pod goes there) that I routinely pour around areas to keep away any pests but would think that might kill the seedlings as it’s fire water, hehe. But your powder idea is brilliant; I have some really old stuff that I wouldn’t mind putting out.

BTW thanks for some of the seaweed info, I have now started my second batch today. The was such a thick weed line that I got 3 bags full in 15 minutes and then enjoyed a morning swim. Wish I had started several batches at once back when I started my last one but it’s hard to find the right container IMO. The one I use is nice cause it has a screw on lid with a low air release which I like and no smell when lids on tight. I may have to source a larger drum to make larger batches, this stuff is awesome IMHO …

Raccoons are destructive little devils, in city you can only shoot em with .22 pellets or catch em in cages. I know we can get the live traps at canadian tire, so you could probably locate one at an equivalent store. I opted to shoot em at night when they were raiding my garden a year back. I dont know how I would deal with a p&$sed off raccoon trapped in a cageThe area I have moved too has too many cougars and bears to have raccoons so my only battle is with the super fast populating rabbits.
