Wild in Las Vegas 2014 (Hardening off and flowers!!)

So now it's time to make another attempt and hope for a better year.

I didn't want to make a glog this year... but I see many already started. That motivates me to make a glog.

2013 was a year for learning and making mistakes and mostly experiments. Needless to say I found and learned a lot and I know this year is gonna rock!

So let's get started with some pics, and I'll update with th list later today and I'll be visiting glogs in a short while ;) and here's to 2014!!!

This is my list so far, and I will update if anything changes.

Thanks for stopping by

yup the wind is wrecking my plants too

Dang, that sucks. I feel ya man. Some days it just gets windy all of a sudden. March sucks here LOL. Most of the plants are fine tho and doing a lot better than indoors.

Walt, all your plants look GREAT!. Good luck with hardening off and getting those babies into their permanent homes. I am at least 3 weeks away from getting mine out. Are you going to be using containers or putting them in the ground?

Cheers,
Rom

Hey Rom!! Thanks, I'll be using pots... I don't have dirt to plant them LOL. I was hoping to move to a house but plans changed... oh well.
Nice to hear yours are doing good and going in the ground soon. You're gonna have a badass year with all the new additions. ;)

Dang man!  Lookin stellar!  Someone seriously stole one of your plants?!  That is just wrong in sooo many ways!

Thanks Jamison! Yup I been battling thieves here. Not to be a racist but I live in an Afro community and these people steal often from everywhere... sucks to live here. I can't move now due to certain circumstances, but I will eventually. I'm happy with what I have left tho, and seems like everything is running better than last year.

Looking good Walt!

The wind aint just in Vegas my friend, we're getting it here too. Glad to see they're doing so well outside!

Thanks Scott!! That's one thing I hate the most... wind. Especially when it's cold outside. It's just that cold and warm air make gusts so that's pretty normal but no likey. Hope the weather treats us better in the next few months LOL.

Plants are looking really good Walt! Glad that Spring has sprung. Got to get those bad boys in the ground!

Yes sir! Although I can't do ground. I'm gonna be doing pots this year fabric ones. Hope I don't get that same issue as last year. I had a bad case of root rot in plastic pots...

Had a good rainfall last night, when i had posted the pics earlier in the day. The rain had stopped and was starting to clear up some... So lets see some magic out of my plants now... Grow baby grow

WhooHoo!! I heard too from my Cali friends. That's awesome news! Hope they stretch nice and start flowers

Man the wind is a blessing in disguise it ripped a lot of leaves off of the cumari pollux but it increased side shoots I couldnt get myself to trim those leaves off so it helped me also it has strengthed my plants stems by like double. Also since I have dropped my plants in ground I have a crazy growth spurt. The chacoense seems really happy in ground

Yup, some things we don't dare do someone else will do them LOL. I have neighbors as a blessing and one of my Cumari pollux got topped without my permission.

I took a few more pics today, the Aerogarden plants are going insane!

Full view.

Covincho. This one is getting really nice. Given that it's more unique, it's getting nice foliage in the Aerogarden.

Tepin x 7 pot... This one is making some gnarly pods...

Cumari pollux, almost there... :D

I hope my plants will survive this massive winds were having tonight. Supposed to rain again either tonight or tomorrow, so we'll see when it will happen... Guess its the winds you and Rob got the other day...

Lol! Oh and I almost forgot I took this close up of the Cumari verdaidera :D.

I want to see these Praetermissum shoot pods already.

Dude Walt, Im jealous in how well its doing for you... Looking fabulous

Yup, it's like an on/off thing. Sometimes it's calm in the morning and when it starts to warm up you get wind. It's all random.

I keep my ladies protected on the balcony and they still get some sun but not as much but something.

Dude, I'm gonna baby these the best I can... The cumari pollux is doing good, and the young ones are gonna need an "Over summer" here. So they go back inside and back outside when temps get cooler. I hear most of these prefer the fall season to produce than early spring. Well see what happens, but I want tokeep them alive and hopefully overwinter too.

We're still getting winds here, just crazy!

One day it's out of the NNW, the next the North. Then the East switching to SE.

I want to build a 10' fence!

Hopefully March winds will bring April showers, would be a real blessing here!

What doesn't kill them makes them stronger ;)

sure! and welcome!

Dang!! Wind socks big time... Here's a video of today. It's freaky just seeing those thick branches bend! Yikes!!

Windy days!!:

-Walt

Those are some hairy plants Walt! When is dirt day for you?

No dirt day here Lol... I don't have space to do in ground. I have to stick to pots, or root pouches.

The official day I took them out was around February 25. That would of been my dirt day even tho last frost is til March 20. When I look for info on my Zone it says I should have about 325 days for gardening. We do get frost but very light and rarely a shower with snow. That's in December or January but the heat... That's a different story...

Temps last year went up to 117 degrees... Night temps 110... Brutal.

Let's see what can be done this year, but I do know 2015 is gonna kick arse!! 3rd year should be golden Lol. We'll see :D.

man you need to check out the star nurseries around the town they are getting better stuff just finished up the second garden at a friends house and we found a couple bhuts and I found a chiltepin last year.

Very cool thanks, I drove close by 2 of them today but didn't bother to stop by Lol. I'm full house, and most are stretching nice.

I did go earlier about a month ago. And half the veggie section was "ghost peppers " they don't know what are bhuts. I wanted a couple at that time but they were all out.

They were $1.58 a 4" pot. Anyway I have seeds and never started any... Big fail because I love them. One of the most enjoyable superhot with any meal. Next year hopefully ;).

Talking about wind, I had a Manzano lose all of it's large leaves this weekend. I figured it's a mountain pepper it should be able to handle it...NOT!

Wow... Nada bueno.

I hate wind for everything. It doesn't bring any benefit and just you wait till you get hit by those dust storms in the summer...

Someone was selling some nice looking pubes about a foot tall for $6. It was tempting but I didn't get them... Idk what they were either, most likely the typical yellow Manzano.

******************************

Some small things happening, not much.

This is the best looking Baccatum flower I've ever seen. Hard to believe it's a annuum/Baccatum cross. This one is more unique. Now to wait and see how the pods turn out.

Ok... Finally had the guts to pull the galapagoense out of the Aerogarden... Once it gets used to the soil it's going outside. It has some buds and it's forking finally. It's one month and 9 days old :D.

The first galapagoense... Doesn't look too hot, but I see new growth and it's sloooooowww...

Cumari pollux, come on!! I want pods already Lol!

Today's pull... Not bad considering I only have flowers. I like to eat them while I tend the ladies. I have a few more ripening.

Lanceolatum!! Come onnn!! One more time!!

I'm 55, and I love toys! Especially new ones ;)

One thing I want to do before I leave this place is build one last bad ass street car, I just have to see if the wife is game. They aint cheap anymore..

Are those Aji Lemons or lemon drops?

Lemon drops, it's from a plant a friend gave me last year. Basically an OW. I love these tho.

Lol!! I know what you mean. Before peppers I was beginning to like drifting. I was starting to build a 93 240sx coupe, and I was converted to right hand drive. I had some nice Skyline parts to put on it R32 GTR 32mm breaks and rotors, new aluminum radiator, 5 lug conversion, suspension and all that jazz... Exactly what you say. Nothing cheap especially if break parts often LOL.

Removing tar and welding the seams.

And here's me putting an engine in... Many Vegas drifters and I never had friends to help... One reason I left the hobby and I got fu**ed a few times with trading parts and deals... So I quit. I might go back if my wallet beefs up LOL...
