Really nice flower pics, Leo! I recognize some,Season 2021 wild flower
Great photos and selection, thanks for sharing!Season 2021 wild flower
In herbaria this plant would be listed as C.frutescens. That I.D. would come from a dried, pressed branch that would lose some of the characteristics that seperate species. This is very heavily influenced by C.frutescens and it may well be pure. I still think that there is annuum in it and if one hundred plants were grown,we would see more evidence. The 'Tolito' from Guatemala via wiriwiri.
Still leaning toward c. frutescens John?
Taken on 7/24. The canopy is now loaded
with pods. It has turned out to be a beautiful
bush:
A few flower pix to verify green-tinted flower petals and purple anthers:
Is c.praetermissumReally nice flower pics, Leo! I recognize some,
but not others. What is the large one in the middle?
Thank Cane Dog@PaulG - those rocopica flowers are cool looking. They seem to be longer petalled and with the calyx along the lines of the cardinasii mother, but split - and with the deep purple color that showed in the F1. Those are F3's of the brown rocopica, right? Have all the flowers on that plant looked like that?
@leo72 - great pic's of all those flowers and the schotti buds. Looks like you're having a great season.
C.schottianum
no friend, they are not seeds collected in nature, they come from plants born and grown in a private collection (I can not name the source) I understand what you are talking about, there are people who have been cultivating these for a long time, we have recently heard about these species, you find many photos on facebook, but many people have been cultivating them for yearsThis is not C.shottianum. The calyces on that species have no teeth in all stages of development. The names on some of the plants in this thread come from one of many charlatans in S.E. Brazil. They are made up names and said individuals have sold 2 or 3 species as 7 or 8. If you received these seeds directly from Brazil then this is C.cornutum or maybe C.recurvatum. They are very close in their descriptions and synonymous in my opinion. I do not want to sound like an authoritarian but I have tried to protect this community and many others from these grifters. In a short period of time these sections of wild chiles will resemble the superhot fiasco. The beauty and sell on these species is apparent ,their beauty. It will be a sad day when everything is mixed and renamed.
This is a shot (in situ) of C.schottianum for reference.
I want to clarify, I do not buy and I do not sell seeds, I only trade, a piece of advice .. do not buy on facebook or on the web from improvised sellers, I have also received rip-offs of bad seeds, not only with wild.I think I no who he has bought them from and your correct there indeed not C.schottianum not his fault it's the moneymaker selling them to unwary collectors at crazy prices, buyers beware guys.
C.schottianum and other wilds I saw growing in Rome in Italy as early as 2010, long before they came into fashion
peaetermissum and c.chinense come from different people of Brazil, with the rarest Brazilian wilds I had no luck, the seeds were not good, they were not viable, to have good seeds you have to look elsewhere, not only in BrazilI will not dispute that. That does not change the fact that what you have posted is not C.schottianum.And nobody is naive enough to think that this influx of misidentified Brazilian species and C.praetermissum like "ariely" have spawned from Central Italy.
Many of the plants you have listed, posted photos of and traded seeds for are in fact from these individuals! The massive influx of C.praetermissum is proof of that and the names attached in your posts ie. Catalao,Ariely, foresta,Rio Negro are all new from these people. Catalao is a city far from the coast where plants are mostly C.praetermissum and it just so happens to be the hometown of the individual that is in charge of that syndicate.
Whether you directly received seeds from these charlatans or not is besides the point....they came from them in some manner. It's not my job to determine who grows what,I couldn't care less to be honest. But it's the job of people in any community to protect others. If you have in fact been keen on wild Capsicum since 2010,you will surely understand that what you have is not C.schottianum and it does not benefit the plants or people growing them to not have proper identification.
This is not an attack on your character. I'm sure you are just growing and trading like the rest of us. But please don't try to insult my intelligence by saying these are from a private collection. We both know that is not true.
No you did not see c.schottianum in Italy in 2010..i grew it myself as did many it was later classed as Not Schottianum 19670 back in 2007 and has been since here's the article back in 2010.I want to clarify, I do not buy and I do not sell seeds, I only trade, a piece of advice .. do not buy on facebook or on the web from improvised sellers, I have also received rip-offs of bad seeds, not only with wild.
