Finally got me some lights and a heat mat...

The trays are the self-watering Burpee 32-cell type..Hopefully they will maintain more consistent moisture levels.

This is what I sowed:

C. chinense
MoA Scotch Bonnet (STEVE954), 6
Madame Jeanette (Meatfreak), 6
Bahamian Goat (FadeToBlack), 6
NagaBrain (romy6), 8
Trinidad Scorpion, 4
7 Pot Yellow, 8
Cumari do Para (capsidadburn), 8
Bonda ma Jacques x 7 Pot Yellow (Spicegeist), 4
Chupetinha, 4

C. annuum
Doux Tres Long des Landes (Meatfreak), 6
Poblano, 8
Zapotec Jalapeño, 12
Chiltepin, 8
California Wonder, 4
Chilhuacle Rojo, 8
Thai Garden Birdseed, 4
Ashe County Pimento (kentishman), 4
Kitchen Pepper (Datil), 4

There are a few spots still open. Probably will sow NuMex 6-4 and some Morouga, because people are asking for it....

Gary, I am afraid Taco Bell is necessary at times! It is one of the few eat out places that I can get food in my son and not worry about his food allergies. He is off the charts for nuts and dairy.

I like to consider myself a cumari punching bag victim too!

Hope the summer takes it easy on your season.

Wow, cool Mike! So Taco Bell is not only dirt cheap, it's also healthy! Sweet! I believe I could live on just corn, beans, coffee, and chiles...If only they would use tortillas de maiz for the burritos—I would never need to go to the grocery store...

Dude, All my Cumari plants came from your seeds! People around here are digging those little yellow stingers...Such a cool-looking plant, too. I've given away several this year...

I was bumming bad about how some of my container plants were sagging hard in this heat, until I checked your glog yesterday...I had the very same idea to put up some shade cloth to protect them...Tomorrow! For now they're cooling it under a pine tree...

Have a great weekend!

Thanks KD! This pod is from the F1 plant, tho...I overwintered it. I've got 8 of the F2 plants pumping out huge, bumpy, scary pods...all still green. Pix as soon as they begin to turn...

Cheerios with fresh-picked Cumari do Para for breakfast this morning—a very nice bump in the a.m....Now if only my Pequins would turn red I could use this box of Captain Crunch...

Hey Windchicken, would you mind sending me some of those Cumari do Para seeds for an SASE? Ever since I saw them I've been trying to grow them but no luck. Bought seeds twice & got seeds in trade once and they either didn't pop or died shortly after germination. This year I finally bought a live Cumari plant from cross country nurseries but I don't think it's the correct variety. The one I wanted was the tiny hot fruity yellow pod one like in your picture, the one they sell looks more like this:

osxMflW.jpg

What is the flavor like on yours? They look gorgeous!

Sure thing...Don't worry about the SASE. Just PM me your mailing address.

As closely as I can describe the Cumari do Para flavor is something like tiny little Habaneros. Fruity and sweet, and a little floral, with a nice punch, but not mind-numbing...To be honest, the amount I put on the Cheerios in the photo was a little over-the-top—10 or 12 pods would have been plenty, rather than the 20 pods I actually used. Even with the milk I still had a fairly strong stomach burn...

It's a tough, robust plant that will set hundreds and hundreds of pods. One thing to keep in mind, since the Cumari do Para is a "bird" type pepper, expect longer-than-usual germination times. It could be 3 weeks or more before you see any "hooks".

Hey Gary, Awesomely great pic with the dragonfly! They usually won't perch on my plants which I would prefer to keep the pics as on topic as possible. It could be that your plants are so much taller than mine! Or the dragonfly considers it a delight to be on your plants!

Great job as usual Gary

Mike

I know it seems like I've been shining y'all, but I've been too busy in the garden to look at the inter webs...I took a vacation from work last week to attempt to finish building out the big beds in the country. As it turns out, I greatly underestimated the scope of the task, and only got one bed built. But it's built the right way, so I'm real happy:

moa_row1.jpg

All the construction you see here was done by hand; just me, a shovel, a hoe, and one of those claw-hand cultivators. I dug all the way down to the clay hardpan and built it back up with shredded branch hardwood (RCW) and Osmocote 14-14-14. The mulch layer is 2-3 inches of RCW. The first 6 plants are the MOA Scotch Bonnets (STEVE954), then 1 Yellow Seven (THSC), then 6 Bahamian Goat Pepper (FadeToBlack), 2 more Bahamian Goats (capsidadburn), and finally 3 Congo Trinidad (pic1). The next row will be built with the help of our company Bobcat track hoe, because my back says "You and that shovel are finished for now!"—That bed will host Madame Jeanette (meatfreak), Yellow 7 x Bonda ma Jacques (Spicegeist), 7 Pot Rennie (armac), and NagaBrain (romy6)...

Thanks Rocket! That type of fungus growth is the beginning of the formation of healthy forest soil...

Thanks Fabrizio!

Come on KD! Give me a hollah before you get here so I can put on a clean shirt!

Lol, thanks Stefan! Man, I'm jealous you have the other Chilhuacle varieties in-ground. It's hard for me to comment on the Brito's Peach, because I never got around to potting mine past 3-gal. containers...They were small pods, but that could have been the reason...Yellow Bouquet, as I remember, was quite robust...

Thanks Charles!

 Thanks Pia! That would be a waste of good whisky for sure...

:P

Trip, Rich...I did that, and it did just what you said...Almost like it has a collective consciousness....

There's another colony in another bed that grew orange...Really looks like vomit...

Sweet!

What is RCW?

This is for capsidadburn...(Nowhere near the photo quality of one of your shots, Mike)....This little guy was resting on one of my Chilhuacle Rojo plants just now....

Funny thing, Gary. I was inspired by it also when I noticed this today I had to take a pic of it. The quality is pretty bad however, couldn't get my smartphone to focus enough :(

Lol, thanks Mike! Now that you mention it, they normally perch on the tips of the plant stakes...

Cool Stefan! That is no coincidence! :P He's even blue, too!

That's a very nice-looking New Mexico chile you're growing there, by the way...Could they be attracted to the leaves of certain types of annuums?. The two chiles are very similar...

Funny you say the DF's perch at the top of your plants stakes. That's what mine do all the time. I will try to get a pic to hang with you and Mike in the Dragon club

Now how about some more garden shots G

Sounds like a killer summer day to me, Scott!
