Windchicken Grow 2012

Looks like I'm getting a late start again this year...Should be setting seeds to sprout in the next few days....Anyway, here's the order I made from Beth this morning. It's not really my complete grow list, because I'm planting lots of saved seeds (from my 2011 Grow and from trades with my THP friends) for the first time this year. Also, I don't know that I will plant everything from this order, but I am excited about some of the new varieties:

BTW, the Chilhuacle Rojo is even better ripe.

The way you group your plants is nice - does that help with avoiding
crosses, or does that matter? That Caribbean Red Hab is a beauty.
I can hardly wait to get some pods on mine! Those look pretty tasty,
how are they?

Thanks PG! Although I would be happy to claim a grand scientific design, I have to admit that my plants are arranged like that due to my OCD tendencies.

Even with all the super-exotic varieties we have nowadays, I never get tired of the Carribean Red. It has a distinctive fruitiness all its own, and the heat level is quite high, probably even superhot. AJ says he can't tell the difference between CRH and the Red Savina, in both heat level and flavor.

I think I'm going too move too Louisiana. Holy :dance: what an beautifull plants and pods! I'm sure you're gonna love the Aji Umba, Gary :)

Thanks Meat! Come on down! We need more good chile growers here! I'm excited about the Aji Umba—As you can see its in the place of honor in my "pilot" garden, where it will receive special care and attention..

Your raised beds are looking sweet, I wondering what mine are gonna look like after a few weeks of total neglect, because that is what"they are doing great-I just watered em for you" means apparently around my house :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Thanks Mike! Y'all got the Big Heat down there yet? It's nipping at our heels up here...Last week there was a 99ºF day and a 100ºF day. It's going to take a heckload of mulch to keep these tender babies cooled down...

I bet they do get nice and spicy, PG. It seems to me that the plants which get the most fertilizer produce the spiciest pods (everything else being equal, of course). I know the subject of how best to manipulate capsaicin production is a bone of much contention here on the boards. And I could very well be wrong, but it sure appears that way to me...

I let our teenage daughter look after my tomato babies one weekend while my wife and I went out of town. Needless to say there was no tomato crop that year, and I was cured forever of trusting anyone else with my garden...Maybe that's part of the reason I seem to always do the lower-maintenance in-ground thing...

Cool! I'm glad that worked out...By the way, how are your Birdseed chiles doing? I seem to remember your being concerned that the main stems were more slender than you liked?

Aji Limo Rojo. Seeds from Peppermania. I was planning a large grow of this one, but I overwatered the seedlings and caused damping-off in the nursery...So, only 2 plants:

I have 2 of the birdseed that are almost 6 feet tall, not slender anymore but straight up plants. Then I have a bushier one, about 3 feet tall and loaded with pods. Have gotten 20 or so ripe pods. By the end of the year those plants should be huge.

On another note I got seeds from that guy in Austin, my plants have round fat pods. Makes me think I mislabeled it. Your piquin looks completely different.

I have an African piquin called a Jindungo, got it from my neighbor from South Africa. I will post pics one day, it is a cool piquin. You may want some seeds.....
