World Yawn-er, Cup

I've been a NED fan for a long time, probably because I'm an AC Milan fan and watched players like Gullit, van Basten, and Rijkaard, Seedorf, De Jong, they even had Huntelaar there for a bit.  Plus Sneijder is great and I still will argue until I am red in the face that he should have gotten the Ballon d'Or for 2010.  I was really psyched on the Oranje after they raped Spain, but it was a horrible way to win against Mexico (who really couldn't catch a break this WC).  Netherlands love aside, I'd love to see Colombia come shock the world. I agree that they could shock Brazil but don't know how possible it will be to do the same to Germany. Fingers crossed for a Colombia-Belgium final, but I have a feeling it will be Germany-Netherlands, but only the Netherlands if Belgium beats Argentina.  If Argentina plays the Dutch I think karma gets them and Messi gets a PK.

Costa Rica has definitely been a dark horse this year, and I would love to see them pull off the upset over the Netherlands.  I can always appreciate it when an underdog wins.  I just don't really know if they will be able to.

Beating Uruguay, Italy and Greece is one thing, but surviving against the Dutch is another.  They have been my pick to win it all since they fiercely shat upon the defending World Cup Champions.  Germany is really the only team I see with a squad capable of beating them right now.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Huh, wha, what's going on? I started reading Juan's post and next thing I knew it was 3 hours later.

Let's keep this lively so others aren't similarly put into comas against their will:

New unofficial contest:

Pick the 1st team/player to score for each of the matches tomorrow.

You may make 1 guess for each match, 1st guess of record (by time stamped post) counts.

US only.

Each correct guess will receive a bottle of Dia del Perro and 1 bottle of my original 6 varieties.

France/Germany
Brazil/Columbia

Go!

Germany/Muller will score first in the FRA/GER game, and Colombia/Rodriguez will be the first to score in the BRA/COL game.

Since its all unofficial. Can I copy someones answers?

You can but you officially won't unofficially win shit by doing it. Read the unofficial rules my friend. 1st dibs on a name/team wins it if it hits.

Come on folks - the more guesses the better the chance that I have to send out sauce! I don't wanna keep doing contests with no winners - that's no fun!

Do i win for an assist by klose?
No one picked Hummels for Germany but i picked klose and he had the assist. I win!

nope. Nowhere in the unofficial rules does it say you get anything for an assist.

Perhaps I'll mail you an assist using the world's tiniest stamp?
bah ha ha!

The sad thing is that I'm unofficially giving away sauce to appeal to the American need to gamble on sports, and it's STILL not generating any interest in a World Cup topic!  How sad is the # of entries?!?

You don't even need to know a thing about soccer for this - pick a team, look at the lineup on CBS sports and pick a name! FREE SAUCE!

That's how much no one cares about this sport.

Let's make it interesting - unofficial contest: if someone guesses the 1st score of the US/Belgium game, including who kicked the ball into the goal (that's how soccer works, right?) I'll send them a bottle of their choice of my original 6 + a bottle of the new Dia del Perro.

Go!

I wish I would have seen this thread. I called this match, including first scorer, and final score.

Us. Dempsey.
OK, so I know it's supposedly our patriotic duty... But NEVER bet on the US in football past group stage. LOL

I can name almost every single player that plays in Europe, but I only really am familiar with Clint Dempsey and Tim Howard - and only BECAUSE I've seen them in Europe. Glad to see some of our boys across the pond, because we have such a very long way to go in this game. Watching MLS is painful...

Oh, and watching Arsenal play when they are on their game is exactly why it is called The Beautiful Game.  It's the soccer equivalent of porn.
So, in other words, you jerk off to a team who never wins anything important...
