New Status Updates

It has been a few years since I was last here and even longer since my last grow. Not sure who of the crew may still be on here, but after 5 years I am able to grow again. Hope to have many good conversations this season and many more to come!!

Y'all ain't gonna believe this, but I just started my FIRST ever pepper mash ferment this weekend, so I was looking for info, and I new I had to come back here for professional advice. A lot has happened since the last time I logged in. New house. Dementia mother-in-law. COVID. My last bout with COVID left me with a gut issue where I can't even eat pepperoncinis anymore. I'm hoping ferments will help with that.

not really a trick but making sure your seed stock isn't old goes a long way. I've tried soaking seeds but I'm not sure it helped that much with germination rate. I might suggest an on and off heat cycle to replicate day and night temps but that may just decrease gemination time.

the global HQ shot is really funny, and also amazingly beautiful.

Thanks! It's a converted 1888 church, so it's really cool but also completely impractical. The renos were done over 35 years by a handy and creative couple who had no real idea what they were doing so nothing is to code. It's been a 6 year adventure for us as we uncover things and fix them.

You just share your address publicly on the internet? 😬
What am I missing? Can't find the option to change my message signature anymore? 🤔

Ah ok.... I thought you could still have a signature but without an embedded link...
How do you know that plant is ready to be transplanted from the 1 liter pot to the final one? How long does it take for them to take that 1l one? Three weeks?

Usually when the roots come out the bottom of the drainage holes perhaps.

That is actually genius and I don't know why I didn't remember that. I found some pots today to make double containers for my bigger peppers and will try to train roots to go out. That way I'll buy me a few weeks! Thanks <3
Fermentation
I have been struggling to keep my ingredients submerged in brine. Has anyone used a vinyl jam bag with a weight on top?
What's up people!! Can't wait for the 2024 grow season!! What's on your grow list this year???

It's my first season growing specific peppers and I don't know when the list will stop, because I'm constantly buying more and more...
I'm the most excited for Sugar Rush Stripey and Thunder Mountain Longhorn, I kinda love the looks and Florescent Variegated. I have few fruity ones, like Aji Lemon Drop or El Oro De Ecuador and for heat: Fatali Habanero and Aribibi Chocolatee. I am not used to heat, so, small steps.

Sounds like a fun list! I'm going thru my old seeds I got from members on here from 2012! I wonder if they will germinate?!? We shall find out! Happy Growing!

Good luck with them, I think they will do just fine. I still wait for the most of mine to germinate, stripey was quick, aribibi and florscent not long after but the rest still chill under the ground. I think I saw sugar rush peach today morning but will know after work for sure...
