  • The art to cooking is finding the "perfect" balance of flavor and textures. There really can be "too much of a good thing." Take garlic as an example; tonight's dinner might as well have been garlic bulbs on a plate - like 100 of them. Glad I wasn't the chef.

I put garlic in a lot of things, like stew. If you let it cook for a while it gives a nice background flavor, even if you use a lot.

LOL! I put garlic in a ton of stuff, so don't get me wrong - I love garlic. But if you had seen the quantity of garlic just left in the pots, let alone on the plates, you'd understand what I mean. It was kind of like someone just puked garlic all over everything.
High of 89F yesterday, dive today so high of only 73 tomorrow. Good to see new pods on the plants in spite of our rollercoaster weather.

108 here in the shade in Perris Ca.At least the humidity is finally dropping. I have some pods on plants that appear to have already been through the dehydrator.
Power out for a few weeks means no recharging electronic gear. No power at gas stations means you can't use your car charger after a while, either. IMO, better to let them conserve for as long as possible, so electronics are usable if an emergency requires their use.

Being in construction, I would bet that both Scovie and Ann have generators to power jobsite tools so no problemo.

Bhut Powder + anise powder mixed in a spray bottle for coating leaves/it won't take much, half a teaspoon of each and let it steep a little while.

Actually, I don't mind that the tomato plants were somewhat eaten. They're really just a decoy to help keep our hooved friends away from my peppers!

I had one clip a rather large Big Jim plant some time today. Sometimes I wish we could "thin their numbers" a little more frequently.
I've never driven to Michigan before, only flown. Was amused that the next sign after "welcome to MI" was a warning to motorists not to pick up hitchhikers for the next several miles as we were in a prison area....
My neighbors think I'm crazy, hauling my plants in and out of the garage with the vagaries of the weather. But if the predicted large hail hits on Sunday, whose plants will fare better? HA!

Just in the dehydrator, as I have no smoker and no motivation to fake one ATM. However, so far this recipe is the fav of everyone who's tried it. I've been experimenting with methods and seasonings quite a bit and have had different reactions to the others - some like, some not so much. It will be interesting to try smoking it at some point.

Perfect time to be outside. Grey clouds contrast against pink from the setting sun, with traces of sky between. Just cool enough to want light sleeves. Lightning bugs flashing on and off as they wander by.

KNOWING I was going to put some of Lady Sic's extra hot pickled okra (made with Trin Scorps) on my burgers, I went ahead and dumped some naga powder into the ground beef before cooking. Mouth STILL burning!

LOL Nate - you don't know me very well if you think that amount of heat stopped me!

Sic - Hot pickled okra instead of standard pickles on a burger is awesome! Now I just want to know if you and Sonya will sell me some of your hot pickled okra - so GOOD!

Mark, best to do something to avoid those kinds of "new", if you can! I avoided repetitively doing backstroke starts today, to give the blisters time to heal. Besides, the chlorinated pool water managed to wash off the NewSkin after a bit, anyway. I thought the stuff was supposed to be water-proof…..
Dehydrator humming with a new batch of jerky on a day I'm working in my home office. So hard to work when all I want to do is raid the dehydrator, but I've got to wait 5 more hours. So hard!

A couple I haven't tried yet - aji cristal and aji colorado, plus some "tried and true" such as congo trinidad. Giving the pasilla de oaxaca a go again, mild but an excellent flavor, imo. 18 in all, 11 varieties.
