    soil starter soils

100% agree here, last yr had awesome results with ocean forest. I use bagged miracle grow or burpee seed starting mix, then once plants are a few inches tall and have a few sets of leaves, I transplant into Ocean Forest. Best part is that you don't have to fertilize for another month. Plenty of...

    shade Shade Cloth

I covered a small area inside my greenhouse with 40% shade cloth for hardening off my peppers and tomatoes. Yest. I moved them to full sun for about 4 hrs, today I'll increase that to 6 hours then take the shade cloth down tomorrow.   This is the first yr. I've used shade cloth for hardening off...

    Severe deformation on Habanero plants

Agreed. I'll just add to 2,4-D drift issues, it can also vaporize in the heat and drift AFTER being applied when there was no wind. A relative of mine spot sprayed her yard for dandelions during a 100% calm morning, there was NO wind. A few days later her knockout rose bushes about 20 ft away...

    Severe deformation on Habanero plants

Either too much fertilizer or herbicide damage. I've had both scenarios produce plants that looked exactly the same. Herbicide damage, specifically 24D tends to make newer leaves curl, be much smaller and look deformed.   Remember herbicide can come from a variety of sources: applicator drift...

overwintering Whats wrong with my over wintered Aji Limon

Too much N. I had the same problem, new growth looked identical as yours. In my case I planted in 60%+ compost, 40% native soil, then fertilized with tomato tone, fish emulsion, ect... a few weeks apart.   Less fertilizer is more; I'm a slow learner!

Taking my boyz for there first walk.

I just found a pallet of that exact pro-mix at home depot for $3.50 each!! I loaded as many as I could, I think it was last year's stock they were trying to unload.

    cupping problen

same here, about 1/2 my tomatoes and 1/2 my peppers, all the newer growth leaves are cupped or curled upward around the edges. All in the greenhouse, only have compost and native dirt in raised beds.   I thought it was related to our recent cold snap; daytime highs in 50's, 40's at night, cloudy...

    Leaves and stems curling down

I would say among other things, the biggest problem was nute burn. The crispy edges of older leaves is usually a tell-tale sign. Seems like the issues started happening after the transplant on 9 April.   Everyone has their own method so here's mine:   Next time, get yourself some soil-less mix...

    Another dumb beginner question

it's easy to reverse the hardening off process by bringing them inside, so as others have said, leave them outside.

health Yellowing of leaves, some dark spots on leaves - what's wrong?

the burnt tips on some of the leaves is classic nutrient burn; too much nitrogen.

video DIY Hydro Grow Bucket video

50% promix ultimate organic, 50% promix ultimate. The ultimate organic bag did say "contains compost".   I've got 1 mo. old seedlings started, going to try again with promix BX and 1/4 strength nutrients.

video DIY Hydro Grow Bucket video

I also tried the SWC bucket design, but indoors under 800W HPS lights. The pepper did OK, but Tomatoes got fried. Masterblend mix at full concentration is way way way too much. Interesting how much of a difference there is in nutrient use indoor vs outdoor. Thanks for the post, can't wait to try...

Aphids, thrips, mites? pretty much whatever!

I received a sample in a timely manner. Sprayed the recommended dose on my indoor Alpine strawberries that had a minor spider mite issue; 30 days later all I see is dead spider mite specs. I will attest this stuff does wonders on spider mites.   thanks to whoever sent it.

    Masterblend

I usually get around 900 ppm after subtracting out my RO ppm, which is ~40. I use the same exact formula, 12g masterblend, 12g calcium nitrate, 6g mag. sulfate.   Honestly, I have not had very good results with this mixture indoors; I seem to burn the hell out of all my tomatoes. Caution, go...

soil Repotting Peppers in what soil?

Fox Farm Ocean Forest gets my vote. As long as the peppers are at least 30 days old, the high ammt. of nutrients in FFOF doesn't hurt them. Now, tomatoes on the other hand....WAY too many nutes in FFOG, but that's for another thread.

Is it OK to change light temperature mid grow (HIDs)

I have the same Apollo setup. I was also confused about which bulb to use so I just ordered another identical HID setup, without the bulb. Now I have two 400W HID lights, one has the 2000K bulb, the other has the 4200K. With both of them, I should be getting a good full-spectrum light source.   ...

pics Various symptoms, is it serious or.. (pics inside)

Agree, herbicide damage, probably 2-4d. Our yard company got 6 hybrid roses and my entire garden this spring. The toms and peppers recovered after a few months and I ended up getting a small harvest. Damage characterized by mutant looking small twisted new growth. Worst part is that 2-4d...

soil GH Flora Series for Soil Grow - Concentration

I was going from memory when I said 67 ppm for RO I re-checked plain RO water this morning and it was 41 ppm   We have terrible well water, its extremly high in Calcium, Iron, Sulfur, and pH is 8.5 Water runs through an Eradicator system that uses hydrogen peroxide to remove the above...
