Wanted to show off the final goods of the season...

Just like the title suggests, I wanted to show off my final products. Everything turned out pretty much exactly like how I envisioned it. Right down to the cute (IMHO) little jars I got off of Amazon. (2 oz jars) ...roughly $20. I don't remember if I got 20 jars or if it was 16 jars but either...

soil Dormant potting soil and re-energizing it for spring (??)

I got that Miracle Grow potting soil - the good stuff and now it's time for me to store away the pots I put the soil in for winter time. Here's what I'm thinking - leave the soil in the pots and leave the pots outside in the elements but add dried fall leaves to the top of the soil and use some...

pics Some of my habaneros I picked yesterday

The plants in the ground have a ton more pods on them. The amount of dried spice I will have will be insane. A lady up the road said she makes salsa out of them. I may give her some.

dried Dehydrating problems due to humidity (?)

I recently dried some of my habanero's and reapers and made sure they were nice and crispy. I then put them in a zip lock bag and sort of hand crushed them until I was satisfied. That was fine for about 1 week but I noticed some of the larger pieces had become somewhat pliable and soft again...

harvesting ? About when you harvest and some pictures.

Hello again. I wanted to ask when you guys harvest your peppers, do you wait until they are all ripe before harvesting? For instance, in the one picture where I have a small reaper, there are about 9 other reapers on that same plant that are still green. So do I pick the ripe one or let it hang...

    seeds Yet another seed question....

On my "Jalapenos" thread, you guys said the pepper needed to be red in order for the seed to be viable. My question > I am growing *HUGE* Habaneros and I believe I have been making a mistake re: seeds. When the habs are turning from green to yellow to a dark orange / not red..... I pick them...

kitchenware My Reaper Plant, My smokers and a question about blended spice storage

The "little" green egg on the left is actually the the Large Big Green Egg. The monster smoker / grill to the right ~ I call it "Kong." I can smoke approximately 10 pork butts in 1 overnight session which = about 80 lbs of meat. Give or take. The walls are nearly 2 inches thick and it weighs...

seeds Hate to ask such a noob question but..... (Store bought Jalapeno's)

Generally speaking, I've only had hotter versions of Jalapenos and they've always been used by me as slices in like a taco dip, etc.... and they've always given me a bit of a heat / hot flash. Not terrible mind you, but relatively speaking for me > hotter than I'd like. Recently I have gotten...

dehydrators Got a small batch dehydrated and......

Now I have the dried pieces in separate zip lock bags. One bag for my Habaneros, One bag for my Reapers, etc.... They're nice and crunchy now. They snap easily. I have gotten as much air out of the bags as possible and I am wondering what I should do with the bags while I wait for the rest of...

dehydrators Dehydration timing question (not length of drying)

I picked up the Presto Dehydro electric model (or stock #) 06300 today. (I can return it if I don't like it) Anyway, see my "Welcome" post and the picture and compare it to the picture below. The green from the habaneros is literally almost gone ..... the reapers have been sitting out for about...

    Hello - I guess I'm a pepper head but I don't know why.

My real name is Mike. I have enjoyed growing peppers casually over the past decade on and off again. Mainly sweet banana peppers because I just like em'. However a few years ago I threw in some Habanero's and when they ripened, I cut them in half and placed them on a cookie pan and dried them...
