5 peppers got an entire 6 pack; otherwise divided into 3 (half 6-p: yes; 6/2 = 3 [hotdamn am tired]) and will prick out. Entire 6: 1. BOC (Jason/GA Growhead) 2. MoA (but another half-6 of that from Walkgood/Ramon and Steve); 3. Tabasco (mine) 4. Bahamian Goat (Greg PIC1), and 5. JA Hab (Ramon/Walkgood)

Many thanks to Mike Rote/Barley_Pop for jerky   :drooling:  and Jason/GA Growhead, for sending me my own Orange Thai seed and the hottest damn powder I've ever had! :onfire: Also, thank you, John, Ark/Saw for the Harbor Freight coupons for "torch to burn honeysuckle roots." And everybody who has, via PM or otherwise, encouraged, offered ideas on new, additional growing space: fence is gone and if no rain, fell, limb, buck and split with two splitters 8 big trees, Maple, 4 Hickories, Pecan, Black Walnut, Poplar NEXT WEEKEND!

Also, would like ideas on that new (additional) space (100'+ x 50')  with stumps, most are to side except Maple. 1. burn 2. grind (cost prohibitive and don't think rented grinder would get it but might if ya'll have any ideas) 3. Work around them this year . . . raised beds, ugh, the work or level with huge dump truck topsoil. And again, work around what's left of stumps. Rip it in Feb. REALLY rich humus in half that on the "lots of trees" side: 25' x 100'+. Also, high side. Have considered dozer/bucket end of my and cousin's tractor just to help level and "share the wealth" of humus.

Hope everybody has kick-butt 2014 GROW! :fireball:

Plants look real good Annie.

I'm sure you know this already, but be sure to get rid of all that walnut. It isn't good for the garden at all.

Oh, hon, as soon as felled it, bucked, limbed, got the junk twigs out of garden space, the dust and chips scooped up, rolled the rounds up to the side, away from garden, which is what old friend of mine and I carried out of there in his truck. One reason I wanted tree gone--killed a lot in dripline and am ripping the established garden out 20'--where it was near--again, to bring up any roots to chainsaw off; killing stump this fall. Where it is now is not a "growing" area at this time as that Maple stump's in front of that area and not much gonna get planted near the roots of M-stump until I kill it--be next fall too. Still gives me 50' x 45' new feet space. All BW does is make nice gun stocks/cabinetry, but for me is gonna burn really well. Thanks! Some people don't know how damn deadly that tree is and are planting the fast growing kind, thinking that they can sell the wood. 1. Not true. 2. Not same wood/tree and 3. some people have no clue that juglone kills EVERYTHING except maybe Rhododendron, kudzu, honeysuckle, privet, lots of what ya never want. Aka, nothing edible will grow near dripline, roots. Thank you: I know too well how deadly the thing is but others might not know.

A lot of work going on there Annie!

This year is going to be killer, or kill you. Remember to pace your self ;)

Plants are looking good, you should be right on schedule (said in Brit accent).

Don't work too hard!

But damn, Scott: said the pot to the kettle  . You're NEVER still. Pace? (We make our own salsa on THP! ;) ) I have one speed and if there's a low setting, it's being forced on me by weather at moment.

Went out to plant onion babies and really high winds today, blowing kelp and bone meal back in my face. (Thought if I got low enough to beds . . . not!)

Thanks for vote of confidence on my shaded babies--that issue can really creep up on ya in a flat in a grow with pots--they just got shaded by "breddren," as Ramon would say. Got a King Naga about garden ready and one of your Funky Reapers is demanding a gallon pot or "real" dirt. That bad boy has a bud forming--yeah--will pinch it off, but kind of fun to watch Funkzilla do its thing, ya know? Peace sweetie and uh, "pace yourself."

Nuff said ;)  But you know what I'm talking ;)

Annie,

I wish I lived close as the black maple is great wood for smoking foods.  The black walnut people have you can use that too but I'm leary---good hard wood for wood burner though.  Your plants look nice.  I grew a pimenta de neyda last year and the leaves and fruit are cool looking.

I really thought you'd have alll that wood stacked by now....LOL

Mikey, JerkayMon! Think I'd let that Pecan, Oak and Maple go without making pucks for smoking?? Already got those drying for smokes. I tend to go apple because I have access next door to trees, limbs . . . but I love Pecan. I've never attempted BW; if anybody has, like to hear about it. (Grapevine is way overlooked as a nice smoking wood and when whacked down grape-vine, got a bunch for smoking.) But I'd think BW'd be bitter.

I'm starting to stack some that stuff today. I could find no pallets  (unless wanted to pay 3 bucks for them--NOT--until went by place near house and thought I saw wheat straw, pulled in (it was hay grazer and fescue--not again), but they had free new pallets. Went back, got truck, made two trips!  Felt like Christmas!

When you start talking about smoking, you've got my attention miz Annie... lol! I think I remember Scott saying he smokes with Pecan wood, but he's more likely than I am to come across it in Tejas. Apparently they have a lot of vinyards in Georgia... former SSR, not Stateside... and it's traditional to make Pork kebabs called Shashlik that are marinated in grated onions, coriander seed and black pepper, then grilled over vine prunings and served on black bread with Pomegranate molasses. Maybe not spicy, but a bit sweet and savory as all h***!

Annie,

I need to really work on my grammer skills....seems like I can't type right anymore...lol.   Pecan wood is like a mild hickory in terms of smoking food with it.  Really all your fruit woods are good to use but the black walnut I'm not sure about but I'm just going by what others have told me.  There, I think I slowed my brain down to keep up with typing....lol

Woah: like jerk using pimento wood? You are a veritable font of knowledge, Rick! In and around Valencia where they have the community paella pans (paella del mar) that they make, and cook over open fire, orange tree wood--what else?--just makes that "event" so special. We got lots and lots of Pecan trees (and pecans). Lots. But check this out in Sequin, TX. Focus? BIGGEST! That really is there and my ex and I had to wonder, "Since everything has to be bigger down here, compensation much?" But truly I love their "youthful" spirit! (Not being one of the original 13 colonies. )

Thanks for that info, Rick! Might try that, soaking vines first, on some country style pork whacked up in an Orange Thai/Orange J./Ginger marinade next time.

I use Mesquite, Hickory, and Pecan. Been experimenting with Cherry and Apple, also use one nice plank of seasoned Live Oak while cooking Briskets.

Most people say Mesquite is too strong, well so is white lightning, just use less. ;)  The flavor is there!

Only thing I have against Mesquite and it's not really "against," is that struggling "starving artists" hosting pot-lucks aka "Brisket and sumpin else," we cut Mesquite as it was free. Then, the next group of folks hosting pot-luck used . . . Mesquite because it was free. After 10 years of smelling no meat smoked in any other wood, I just got burnt out, but in truth would LOVE to smell it now . . . in the WARMTH aka HEAT that I so miss. But I have to disagree on Shine: use MORE! (Or that was always my motto. *cough*)

I really think Brisket takes a good strong wood to bring out flavor. Oak or Live Oak sounds amazing, too. Which means my first choice of wood for Brisket is Mesquite, but that crap they sell in Big Box is NOT Mesquite, not chunk. Not chip. None of it smells like real Mesquite. Friend sent me a care package of Mesquite pucks; I mixed w/ some Cherry--nearly dead tree been whacking on--that combo was nice with big chuck. Speaking of wood . . .
