Ausmith's Indoor Glog - First Harvest. Jamaican Red Hot, Dutch Yellow, Jalapeno, Cayenne

Howdy all,

First post. Day one!! Germination commenced on July 27, 2012 at 19:00 UTC +1.

The goal with this project is to grow peppers year round indoors. Probably do some herbs, onions, and tomatoes as well, if I have some beginners luck. I want to be eating fresh pico de gallo in January.

So here's to the weekend and day 1. Cheers.

I'll post some pictures over the weekend. Right now my better half is nagging that we should go for a swim.

** Oh I've got Cayenne, Jalapeno, Caribbean Red, Dutch Yellow, Habanero, Apache, Basil, Cilantro going.

Nice germination rates with your seeds.......Becareful with nutrients and the small feeder roots that your seedlings have. I always "Highly" dilute all my chemicals. But intern I am able to feed the plants with each watering. Experimenting and fine-tuning are part of what helps the indoor "Garden Enthusiast" progress. Although you do have extra plants and seeds its no fun discarding any once the lights are fired up...
Good luck with your grow, I see you have a versatile list of peppers.......cool

Greg

Just a few more pics... Here is 5 days of growth, same plant, same reference.

The experiment with the Ferts seemed to work out okay. No signs of burning, and they do indeed look better than they did. Going to give it a week and see how they look. If all is good I'll hit all the plants with the same brew the following week. I can't wait to get these guys back to the grow tent and watch them explode!!!!
Here are the Fert plants.

Just wanted to re-cap the first 3 weeks of growth of my Jalapeno for reference. For the first-timer I guess this can give them an idea of what to expect. This is the same plant showing 3 weeks (21 days) of growth.

The first seedling making it's way to the light. This was August 2, 2012. The seeds were planted July 27.

Hey just found your Glog. Looking great! I like your indoors grow set up looks good. My plants are all outdoors here but i will start new ones indoors in the winter to get a jump on next year. Just dont have the space for a full indoor grow. But keep us updated on how it goes.

Hallo nachbar! Mache ich.

First week back from vacation so I haven't had a lot of time to play with my peppers. I'm starting to move the seedlings out of the cups and into some starter pots. Sunday was the last time I did anything which including some up-size potting and the 50/50 fert solution. It's been hotter than normal here, but we've had a consistent 94 degrees in the tent. Today I potted a few more and watered - seems like they like water every other or every third day at this point. I'm only watering 50ml in the cups and 100 - 200 in the pots. Just enough to soak through and drip out the bottom.

Here are some pictures from today August 22 - Day number 27.

The biggest of the Jalapeno, although he's going to get caught by a few of the others pretty soon (same plant pictured above)

Day 38. Haven't updated for a while, I was away from home for the last week at a tradeshow. I came home this morning to a pretty nice surprise in the grow tent. Things have really done well over the past week. Amazing growth on just about everything.

I only had time to snap a few pictures today, but I plan a full update later this week when I get caught up on work.

Here is my reference plant, Mr. Jalapeno #1.

Hi everyone!

Sorry for the delay in any update. I've been really busy with work - 6 tradeshows in 2 months, plus normal business. I'm on my way home, on the train, from a tradeshow in Frankfurt. I hope to do an update later. Things have gotten interesting in the tent, we've set our first fruit! Apache. The plants are doing so well that I had to take a bunch out of the tent - they are getting gifted or sitting in the window. Dutch Yellow are not far behind Apache. Habanero is looking good, as are the Rawit. Jalapeno have serious legs! Crazy. I cut one in half this morning just to see what will happen.

The plants are thirsty and happy as far as I can tell.

Cheers from a train between Frankfurt and Riedstadt.

Still pinned with work, but had a few extra minutes this morning to snap a few pictures.

42 days after germination, the Apache has set fruit.

The Apache plants are quite bushy and have many flowers. I hope the fruit turns out to be tasty.

Here's the grow tent. It's full!!! I've already taken 8 plants out as there just isn't enough room. When I have a little down time I plan to design a newer model that's better suited for the mature plants.
534215_4677984916221_1633978174_n.jpg

Okay - today I had to make some tough choices. Things are going so well in the tent that I just don't have enough room to keep all the plants happy. I've decided to focus on the following:
Jalapeno
Habanero
Dutch Yellow
Caribbean Red
Apache
Thai Ornamental
Basil
Coriander

The rest I have planted outside, in hopes of an extended Indian Summer. We don't get a hard freeze until December around here, so that gives me some months to see what happens. We can cover the plants on cold mornings. I'm gifting about 10 plants for window sill or winter garden over-winters.

Now my question for the pros. Last few weeks I have noticed some sort of clear crystals forming on the leaves of many plants. My only thought is the really hard water we have here.... any other ideas. See picture below:
384199_4689369080818_546388730_n.jpg

Answering my own question after digging a little. Edema apparently. Not due to overwatering, must be lack of air circulation in the tent. I have made some improvements to the set-up, we'll see how they look in a week or two.

nice... while not a beginner to growing pepper, I am still a beginner when it comes to indoor growing.

I've been contemplating something similar for this winter, however have not yet started to put anything together... It will be living indoors, in my apartment, in my bedroom. So... it could prove to be interesting.. at least my room will be warm this winter lol.

great looking plants!

(other than the Edema of course)
