Ausmith's Indoor Glog - First Harvest. Jamaican Red Hot, Dutch Yellow, Jalapeno, Cayenne

Howdy all,

First post. Day one!! Germination commenced on July 27, 2012 at 19:00 UTC +1.

The goal with this project is to grow peppers year round indoors. Probably do some herbs, onions, and tomatoes as well, if I have some beginners luck. I want to be eating fresh pico de gallo in January.

So here's to the weekend and day 1. Cheers.

I'll post some pictures over the weekend. Right now my better half is nagging that we should go for a swim.

** Oh I've got Cayenne, Jalapeno, Caribbean Red, Dutch Yellow, Habanero, Apache, Basil, Cilantro going.

nice... while not a beginner to growing pepper, I am still a beginner when it comes to indoor growing.

I've been contemplating something similar for this winter, however have not yet started to put anything together... It will be living indoors, in my apartment, in my bedroom. So... it could prove to be interesting.. at least my room will be warm this winter lol.

great looking plants!

(other than the Edema of course)

Wake Forest, cool. I went to State back in the 90's. I miss the Carolinas. Good weather for growing things :)

I'm a newb on both accounts, but I'm having some decent success. My only advice on the indoor scene is that you need to set expectations early and shoot for quality over quantity. I found out quick that I had way too many plants started. Unless you've got the space and budget, plan on keeping it small.

Cheers!

Cool. Good effort, really! Ich wohn jetzt net so weit aus Babenhausen, in Riedstadt, ungefähr 30km west. Ich auch wegen was kommt über der Winter, ganz begeistert!

Tschüss!

Your grow is really taking off, Clayton! The starts and transplants
all look great. Hope you get your minor edema issues squared
away; your plants look healthy and happy otherwise! Good luck
getting them to mature pod producing plants!!

Have a good week, bro!

Thanks Paul! Yeah, things are going pretty good in the tent.

I got back from France today earlier than expected. I had a business meeting yesterday that I was not looking forward to, but it turned out to be a great meeting and should turn into some nice business. I celebrated with this nice beer from Flanders:

Tomorrow I am off to Italy for a meeting early in the AM, but I've finally got time to do a little update action.

There was another pod on the Apache today (that makes 4) and one started on the Dutch Yellow. The Jalapeno is just starting to bud and it's a nice plant. Here are some pictures:

Ornamental Thai with some nice purple flowers and one Pod on the loose

Today I was in Bologna, Italy for an important meeting. Everything went very well so today's celebration included this organic double malt beer at 6.5%. I'm going out for a pizza in a local dive later. Guy at the hotel tells me it's good. Either it is, or his family owns it :)

Somebody remind me I need to give the boys some ferts this weekend.

Cheers.

Great beer samplers, bro! Nothing like sampling the local craft!

Your plants are really coming along nicely.

Quick update. The pods are coming now pretty heavy on the Dutch Yellow and Apache. The Caribbean Red and Jalapeno are starting to flower, and there are many buds! Looking like we'll have a nice harvest in November/December.

Spent a long weekend in Frejus France. Flew back to Frankfurt, and now waiting for my next flight to Dublin. After Dublin I do London, back home for a week, and then a short trip in Germany.

After that me and the better half are taking a week again at the family house in the mountains.

My birthday is mixed in there somewhere too.

The plants are good. The Dutch yellow has some great looking pods. The Apache pods a many, but not developing very fast. The big Jalapeno is flowering, so I am expecting some fruit in a week or so. Caribbean is also flowering but appears to be a week or so behind the Jalapeno. The Cayenne is stubborn. It's budding but taking its sweet time!!

I will do some pics later this week whe I am back from this trip.

I'm looking forward to pints tonight in Dublin!!!

Cheers

+1 Stickman - Nice, green and healthy looking leaves on
those plants. Looking forward to seeing more.

Here is my pre-update. I thought I would have an easy Friday in the office... not the case. I was heads down from 8-3, with a 10 min break to make some ramen noodles. Lot's of orders so I can't really complain.

I've had a problem recently with some gnats. They came from some premium organic soil I bought and used when planting up. Today I took all the plants and re-potted them with some clean soil. I also made some changes to the tent. I moved the plants to the bottom, as they were getting quite tall, and I swapped the CFL bulbs for some higher K units.

I have some circular vent fans which I plan to build into the tent this weekend. One input and one output to a fresh air source. I think this is going help all around.

I've moved the Apache and Ornamental out of the tent. They are not going to produce anything interesting, so they can enjoy the sun from the windows. I needed the space!!!

In the tent things are going well with Jalapeno, Caribbean Red, Cayenne, Dutch Yellow, Hab, Rawit, and my massive Basil. I'm going to tend to these guys through the winter. We should be seeing some harvest in late November and December.

I've also obtained some Bhut seeds. Debating what/when I want to do with these. I will for sure put some in the ground next year, and maybe one good plant in the tent.

Here are some pics from today.

Here's my Saturday update.
Jalapeno, Caribbean Red, Dutch Yellow, Cayenne, Habanero, Apache

I planted the seeds on July 27, so we are at 86 days today. All of the plants have set fruit except for the Habanero and Caribbean Red.

I've grown these in my self made tent using 4 CFL 30w bulbs and 1 LED array. Using some run of the mill soil and organic tomato fertilizer.

Jalapeno.

I did an epsom salt application today and took this nice picture of a Caribbean Red pod. There are probably a dozen pods on the plant. Ton's of Jalapeno pods, Dutch Yellow, and the Cayenne is also throwing some flowers and pods now. The Habanero is taking it's sweet time, but it is a great looking plant.

Have a little update. Lots of Pod action in the tent. I'm also in the process of upgrading to a professional tent with a bit more room. Also moving from 150watts of CFL lighting to over 400watts of T5 HO. I've got my 2013 seed list and plan to continue indoor ops and also get some things started for the outdoor garden. First the plants and then I'll get all techy.

First up here is my only Hab. Great looking plant. No budding yet, but you can see evidence of it starting. Fingers crossed this is a good one because it sure looks nice.

Jalapeno now. Hardy plant and has grown to the limits of its space. I counted 28 pods today. It has stopped flowering for the moment.

Rawit Red, organic seed stock. Interesting plant. Just starting to flower.

Now for the Cayenne. This thing has some super dense pod clusters. About 45 total pods on this little guy. Still flowering as well.

The Dutch Yellow. Has 5 big pods and about 7 smaller ones. Kind of stopped flowering, but for a small plant it did make some nice pods first time around. I hope it matures into a continued producer as I really like this pepper.

Caribbean Red. Is this really a Caribbean Red, any experts want to check the pods and tell me what you think. Pretty cool shape on those guys. I count 15 pods and it's still banging out flowers.
