Carolina Reaper (HP22B) Community Grow

A few members including myself are growing seeds for this variety ASAP. I and a few others here on THP thought it would be fun to have a "community glog" strictly for this variety, a fun thread about the HP22B and growing this pepper for the first time.

I think we should start a community glog like this anytime there is a new pepper with alot of attention and alot of people growing it, possible world record holder or not. It would be fun, and this should be fun! That's why we all love this hobby is it not?

Therefore, this will be a drama-free, controversy-free, fun glog for all of us growers and others to enjoy. If you grow, please chime in. If you're growing this variety, please post pictures and chime in about your observations.

Again.. This thread is ment to be fun and informative, but mostly fun :)
Please. Pretty please with sugar on top.. lol. Keep it drama-free.
I, and many others would really appreciate this thread to stay that way.

Now lets get to growing!

I went with the paper towel method for this guy just like I have with all my mid-season starts. It is far from my favorite way to germinate seeds but I'm in no hurry this time of year which is why I went this route. I've had the seeds in the paper towel for about a week now on top of my HOT5 lighting closet. The seeds should be showing root tips soon, then they will be visiting some real soil :D

How's it going for everyone else?

I'm finally starting to get some peppers a little closer to the true pheno. It's not on all of them, but there's decent stingers on these

They have some great heat so far too. It's a bit of a slow build, but once it get's going it feels like red hot razor blades in your mouth.

Mine threw a bunch of pods that didn't grow true, and a few that did. Seems to be a fair amount of variability in each plant. I'm a happy camper so far though. It's got great heat to it. Your second pod looks pretty cool.

Hi. Where can I find reliable source of these seeds? I don't mind paying more but I need to be sure they are legit. I read somewhere this is not a stable variety so I think trustworthy seed seller is essential.

Hello all,

First post. Done a lot of reading here and there is definitely a wealth of information to be gained.

This is my reaper plant. I started from seed last February and the plant has done exceptionally well. Last year, its first year, the plant produced three pods towards the end of September/beginning of October. Right now I have over 10 pods growing!

I'm posting because I am slightly worried about the plant. One branch broke causing a main stalk to splinter and I had to cut it off. Right now the area that I cut off is turning brown around it and I do not want it to spread making the plant die. Here are a couple pics.....please help!

I haven't done any type of fertilizer/topping/trimming etc other than mixing in Miracle Grow Shake N' Feed in the soil when I transplanted it. Have basically been letting the plant go and only watering It when the leaves show they need it. After reading some on here and pepperjoes I am planning on spraying it every other week with Epsom salt and then using fish fertilizer once a week on the alternate weeks. Any other tips/tricks?
